The Global Coordinator of the Ilorin Women Association (IWA), Professor Aishat Gobir, has commended the organizers of the 2026 Ilorin Emirate Durbar for sustaining and expanding the cultural festival, describing the event as beautiful, vibrant, and a strong reflection of unity and cultural pride.
Professor Gobir made the remarks while speaking with Just Event Online TV on Thursday during the Grand Ilorin Emirate Durbar held in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Expressing excitement over the atmosphere at the event, she described the Durbar as a remarkable display of culture, hospitality, and community participation.
“It’s beautiful and very fantastic. You can see the atmosphere of friendliness and excitement everywhere. Everyone was happy and rejoicing,” she said.
She particularly praised the colorful horse parade and cultural displays that formed part of the celebration, noting that the beautifully decorated horses added glamour and prestige to the annual festival.
“You can see the horses beautifully decorated and participating in the parade. It was truly impressive,” she added.
Professor Gobir also called for greater inclusion of community members and fresh ideas in the planning and organization of future editions to ensure continuous improvement of the cultural event.
“We should continue doing what we are doing, but we also need to involve more people in the community so that new ideas can continue to emerge as the Durbar expands,” she stated.
According to her, the Ilorin Emirate Durbar has recorded significant growth over the years and has continued to attract increasing participation from indigenes and cultural enthusiasts across the world.
“The Durbar has become bigger and better over the years, and our members are becoming more eager to attend,” she noted.
She further revealed that members of the Ilorin Women Association from different countries, including the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Saudi Arabia, were present at the event to celebrate and support the preservation of Ilorin cultural heritage.
“There are people from the US, Australia, the UK, Germany, Saudi Arabia, and many other countries here participating to ensure that our culture continues to thrive,” she said.
