Ex-Governor Abubakar Refutes Non-Indigene Claims, Traces Bauchi Roots

By Mohammed Kaka

Former Bauchi State Governor and 2027 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, SAN, has dismissed claims that he is not an indigene of the state, calling the allegations politically motivated and contrary to historical records.

Abubakar spoke in Bauchi while receiving supporters on a Sallah homage visit to his residence.

He referenced a biography written by a supporter, saying it was published to document his background and counter narratives spread by political opponents about his origin.

“A book was written about me when some people were alleging that I am not from Bauchi State. The author sought to present the facts and preserve the true account of my ancestry and background,” he said.

The former governor traced his lineage to Fulani roots with ancestral ties across Bauchi and neighbouring states.

He said his paternal grandfather was a Fulani scholar, cattle rearer and traditional leader, Hardo, from Jahun in present-day Jigawa State.

His paternal grandmother, he added, was from Nabayi in Ganjuwa Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

On his maternal side, Abubakar said his grandfather came from Wuro Modibbo Abba in present-day Gombe State, while his maternal grandmother was from Kirfi Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

He said the family connections show clear ancestral links to Bauchi and communities that have long shared cultural and social ties across the region.

Abubakar urged politicians to focus on leadership and development instead of personal attacks.

He asked supporters to ignore misinformation ahead of the 2027 election.

“Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar served as governor from 2015 to 2019. His supporters say his administration delivered key infrastructure projects and reforms in public service.

Political observers note his remarks come as campaigns for 2027 begin to take shape in the state.

The former governor restated his commitment to the unity and progress of Bauchi State regardless of political differences.

Tuggar Clarifies Remarks, Reaffirms Loyalty to Tinubu
..Says comments focused on APC internal democracy in Bauchi, not criticism of President

By Samuel Luka,

Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has clarified comments attributed to him during a recent Hausa-language interview, saying he did not criticize President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and that he remains loyal to the administration's Renewed Hope Agenda.

In a statement issued Sunday by his spokesman, Alkasim Abdulkadir, the minister said reports suggesting he questioned the President were false and a deliberate distortion of his remarks.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Ambassador Tuggar did not criticize or question President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in any way. The Minister remains a loyal supporter of the President, fully committed to the Renewed Hope Agenda and the success of the APC-led administration,” the statement read.

Tuggar explained that the interview focused on internal APC processes in Bauchi State and the need for transparency and fairness.

He expressed concern over what he described as efforts by Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, to influence the outcome of the party’s governorship process.

His contention, the statement said, was that all interested candidates should have been given a fair opportunity to participate in an open contest before party delegates.

The minister also referenced President Tinubu’s directive that political appointees seeking elective office must resign within the stipulated timeframe, adding that any aspirant willing to contest was free to comply and seek the mandate of party members.

Tuggar said his concerns were aimed at strengthening the APC in Bauchi and preserving confidence in its internal democracy.

He appealed to the President and APC leadership to consider stakeholders’ concerns and “take necessary steps to reinforce justice, inclusion and party cohesion.”

He reaffirmed his commitment to party unity and to advancing policies that promote development and good governance in Bauchi State and Nigeria.

Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two men in connection with criminal conspiracy, disturbance of public peace, and mischief after an attack on the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Secretariat in Bauchi on Saturday.

According to a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Bauchi state police command, SP Nafiu Habib on Sunday, operatives from 'B' Division GRA apprehended the suspects following an incident at the party office along Maiduguri Bypass.

The PPRO said unknown persons stormed the PDP Secretariat around 2:00 p.m. on 24th May 2026 while the party’s governorship primary election was underway.

He said that the intruders disrupted proceedings, vandalized the PDP governorship candidate’s campaign banner, and damaged windscreens of vehicles parked by the roadside before escaping on motorcycles.

Acting on intelligence, police identified and arrested Hamza Abdullahi alias “Dawa”, of behind Old Airport, Bauchi, and Abdul Malik Dahiru alias “Black”, of Doya Area, Bauchi.

The PPRO said both suspects have been transferred to the Violent Crime Response Unit, VCRU, for further investigation and will be charged to court once investigations conclude.

He said that the commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu warned against acts that breach public peace or destruction of property, particularly during political activities.

He said the command remains committed to securing the state and will not tolerate violence or political thuggery.

The CP urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding and to report suspicious activity to the nearest police formation.

Presidency Commissions TETFund Hostels for SAZU Female Students at Gadau, Yuli Campuses

Bauchi

The Presidency has commissioned two newly completed female students’ hostels at Sa’adu Zungur University, SAZU, under the 2024 TETFund Annual Intervention Projects.

The hostels, located at the Gadau Main Campus and Yuli Campus, were commissioned at a ceremony held in Gadau on Tuesday. They form part of TETFund projects being commissioned nationwide in tertiary institutions.

According to a press release signed by the Public Relations Officer of the university, Auwal Hassan, each hostel has 40 ensuite rooms and is designed to ease accommodation pressure and improve student welfare.

Representing the TETFund Executive Secretary, Bauchi State Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Higher Education and Regional Integration, Malam Isa Mohammed Tahir, said the facilities were symbols of government’s commitment to quality education and student welfare.

“A hostel is more than a building; it is a home away from home where friendships are formed, ideas shared, dreams nurtured and future leaders developed,” he said.

He urged students to maintain the facilities.

SAZU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Fatimah Tahir, described the projects as a milestone in the university’s effort to provide a conducive learning environment.

“This project reflects TETFund’s commitment to improving students’ welfare and our determination to prioritize student-centred development,” she said.

Prof. Tahir thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for sustaining TETFund’s mandate, and commended the Fund’s management, contractors and supervisors for timely delivery.

The commissioning underscores the Federal Government’s push to strengthen infrastructure and improve living conditions in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.

APC Suffers Major Blow in Toro as Chairman, Top Stakeholders Defect to PRR

By Mohammed Kaka

The All Progressives Congress in Toro Local Government Area took a major hit on Friday as its chairman, top executives, and key political figures defected en masse to the Peoples Redemption Party.

Comrade Idris Musa Matawa, Toro APC chairman, led over 15 local government executive members and several ward chairmen to announce their switch to PRR during a gathering in Toro.

In a press release made available to newsmen by Comrade Sabo Muhammad, Adviser, Media and Communications to Bauchi South Senator Shehu Buba Umar weekend, the defectors said the move followed years of internal marginalization within APC.

Among those who joined PRR alongside Matawa are: former Deputy Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly Hon. Ismail Shuaibu Rahama; former House of Representatives member Hon. Comrade C. Nuwu Zalau; former Special Adviser to ex-Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, Comrade Maijama’a Matu; and ex-APC ward chairmen from Ribiri, Tilde-Fulani, and Jama’a Zararuwu wards.

Speaking at the event, the defectors accused APC of abandoning internal democracy and sidelining loyal members.

“For years we endured a system where decisions were imposed, not debated. PRR offers us a platform where every voice matters,” Matawa said.

The group pledged full support for PRR’s gubernatorial candidate, Senator Shehu Buba Umar, ahead of the 2027 Bauchi governorship election.

They described the senator as a leader with the experience and vision to reset governance in Bauchi State.

PRR stakeholders in Toro welcomed the new members, saying the defections confirm growing public fatigue with the ruling party.

“This is not just about personalities. It’s about people choosing accountability over imposition,” a PRR leader at the event stated.

Political analysts in Bauchi say the Toro defections could shift the balance of power in the central senatorial zone.

APC has dominated Toro LGA since 2015, and losing its structure there may open space for PRR to expand ahead of 2027.

PRR has been courting disgruntled APC members across Bauchi State in recent months, pitching itself as an alternative rooted in “people’s power”, the ideology that gave the party prominence under Governor Abubakar Rimi in the Second Republic.

The press statement said more APC members in other LGAs are in talks to join PRR. “This is just the beginning. Bauchi people are ready for a new direction,” the Adviser said.

CLAIMS OF PLANS TO ABOLISH BAUCHI EMIRATES ARE FALSE – UMAR SADE

By Mohammed Kaka

Former Commissioner for Information, Hon. Umar Ibrahim Sade, has dismissed reports claiming that APC governorship aspirant Barr. Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, SAN, plans to abolish newly created emirates and chiefdoms in Bauchi State if elected in 2027.

Sade described the allegation as baseless political propaganda aimed at misleading the public and creating tension among traditional institutions.

“M.A. Abubakar, SAN, understands constitutional governance and the legal framework that established the existing traditional institutions. There is no official statement, campaign document, or policy proposal by him or the APC to dismantle emirates, chiefdoms, districts, or remove emirs and district heads,” he said.

The former commissioner said traditional rulers remain critical to peace building, dispute resolution, cultural preservation, and security intelligence. “Weakening these institutions would be counterproductive given current challenges of insecurity, farmer-herder clashes, and communal disputes,” he added.

Sade noted that throughout his public service career, Abubakar has upheld due process and institutional independence. “His leadership philosophy focuses on strengthening institutions, not undermining them. Traditional rulers are key stakeholders in governance and development, and that position has not changed,” he said.

He urged stakeholders to focus the 2027 election debate on policies and development plans for Bauchi rather than unverified rumours.

Sade assured residents that Abubakar’s vision includes strengthening the legal and administrative frameworks that support traditional institutions.

37 APC Executives Defect to PRP in Bauchi Ahead of 2027 Polls

By Mohammed Kaka

Thirty-seven executive members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Misau Local Government Area of Bauchi State have defected to the Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, citing poor internal democracy and marginalization within the ruling party.

The defectors, comprising local government and ward officials, announced their resignation at a political gathering in Bauchi today Friday.

They pledged support for Senator Shehu Buba Umar’s 2027 governorship bid under the PRP platform.

According to a press release signed by Comrade Sabo Muhammad, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Sen Shehu Buba, the move was coordinated by Hon. Maiwada Bakojin Misau and Hon. Shehu Duba Gari Misau, who described it as a step toward “a more inclusive and people-oriented political structure” in the state.

Speaking for the group, the former APC executives said their decision was driven by PRP’s commitment to justice, fairness, grassroots empowerment, and sustainable development.

“Politics should be about serving the people, empowering communities, and delivering meaningful development. That is why we have decided to join the PRP and support Senator Shehu Buba Umar,” they said.

The defectors expressed confidence in Senator Umar’s leadership, describing him as a grassroots politician with a strong record in community engagement and youth empowerment.

According to the organizers, most of the defectors are from Ajili/Gugulin Ward, the political ward of the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Mohammed Pate.

Political observers say the defections could reshape alignments in Bauchi ahead of the 2027 governorship race, particularly in Misau and other key strongholds.

The new PRP members said consultations are ongoing in several LGAs to mobilize support.

Welcoming them, Senator Umar assured the defectors of equal opportunities and active participation in party affairs.

“The PRP remains committed to justice, transparency, unity, and people-centered leadership. Our mission is to provide Bauchi State with credible leadership that prioritizes development and the welfare of the people,” he said.

He urged party supporters to remain united as the PRP strengthens its grassroots structures for the next electoral cycle.

Analysts believe the wave of defections signals growing momentum for the opposition party and could boost Senator Umar’s influence as the 2027 race approaches.
