5,728 TRAINEE LAWYERS CALLED TO THE NIGERIAN BAR IN HISTORIC ABUJA CEREMONY
Abuja, July 10, 2025 — In a landmark event at the Body of Benchers headquarters in Abuja, a record-breaking total of 5,728 newly qualified lawyers were formally inducted into the Nigerian Bar. The three-day call‑to‑bar ceremony, which commenced on July 8, brought together aspirants from across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones .
This marks the largest single cohort ever called to the Bar in the nation’s history, reflecting a significant expansion in the legal profession . These graduates successfully completed the rigorous Nigeria Law School Bar Final Examinations in November 2024 .
The Body of Benchers, the highest regulatory authority in the legal profession, oversaw the ceremony, underscoring its central role in maintaining the integrity, standards, and ethics of legal practice in Nigeria .
Among the newly called lawyers were both fresh law school graduates and legal practitioners who had passed preliminary examinations, all now officially granted the right to plead before Nigerian courts.
