📍The Story Behind These Pictures

There’s a remarkable story behind these photos, taken during the Future Investment Initiative (FII) Summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, back in October 2021.

On the sidelines of the summit, late President Muhammadu Buhari was scheduled to meet with Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman at the Al‑Yamamah Palace. As usual, the President’s advance team had already left the hotel to prepare the grounds for the high-level meeting.

While we were seated in our media vehicle, waiting for Baba to come down so we could proceed to the Palace, a sudden and surprising signal came in — the Crown Prince had requested that Baba remain at the hotel; he would come to meet him there personally, saying “Baba is like a father to me.”

In no time, the entire hotel was overtaken by Saudi security personnel. The Managing Director of the hotel, along with his top management, came down in person to supervise preparations and receive the Crown Prince.

Out of curiosity, I asked one of the Saudi protocol officers why this unusual gesture was happening. He replied, “For the Crown Prince to leave his palace and come to a hotel to meet a visiting leader, it means he holds your President in the highest possible regard.” Hotel staff later confirmed that this was a historic first — it had never happened before.

That was the kind of global respect and honour Baba commanded. Allah ya jikan Baba Muhammadu Buhari. 🤲🏽🇳🇬🇸🇦

5,728 TRAINEE LAWYERS CALLED TO THE NIGERIAN BAR IN HISTORIC ABUJA CEREMONY

Abuja, July 10, 2025 — In a landmark event at the Body of Benchers headquarters in Abuja, a record-breaking total of 5,728 newly qualified lawyers were formally inducted into the Nigerian Bar. The three-day call‑to‑bar ceremony, which commenced on July 8, brought together aspirants from across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones .

This marks the largest single cohort ever called to the Bar in the nation’s history, reflecting a significant expansion in the legal profession . These graduates successfully completed the rigorous Nigeria Law School Bar Final Examinations in November 2024 .

The Body of Benchers, the highest regulatory authority in the legal profession, oversaw the ceremony, underscoring its central role in maintaining the integrity, standards, and ethics of legal practice in Nigeria .

Among the newly called lawyers were both fresh law school graduates and legal practitioners who had passed preliminary examinations, all now officially granted the right to plead before Nigerian courts.

Unprecedented cohort size: 5,728 lawyers in a single ceremony—an all-time high.

Nationwide representation: Participants hailed from every geopolitical zone.

Boost for the judiciary and access to justice: The influx of new legal practitioners is expected to enhance judicial capacity and legal service delivery across the country.

Looking Ahead:
With this milestone, the Nigerian legal profession celebrates both its expanding reach and its increased responsibility to uphold justice and professionalism. The new lawyers are expected to adhere to the highest standards, contributing to a more robust, transparent, and effective legal system.

📌 Note: This historic call to the Bar follows a previous ceremony in March 2024, where 4,412 lawyers were inducted.
