Mistakes that are killing your CV.
You spend hours tweaking the layout and obsessing over fonts, but your application gets rejected in six seconds flat. You aren't getting calls, and you don't know why.
A recruiter opens a PDF. They see a dense wall of text, generic buzzwords like "hardworking team player," and a laundry list of daily duties. They scan desperately for impact, find none, and move to the next candidate. The CV never stood a chance against the human eye or the automated system.
Here is the fix.
STOP doing this:
Listing daily responsibilities instead of achievements. Nobody cares what you were supposed to do; they care what you actually delivered.
Using fancy graphics, double columns, or headshots. They break ATS readers and annoy human ones.
Writing generic summaries full of fluff like "motivated self-starter seeking opportunity." It is noise.
START doing this:
Quantify your impact. Use numbers, dollars saved, percentages grown, and concrete results.
Use clean, standard formatting. Simple bullet points, clear headings, and standard fonts win every time.
Tailor your headline to match the exact language of the job description you are targeting.
Your CV is not a biography. It is evidence that you can solve a specific problem.
