In memory of the late Musa Sale Kalala, we come together as the Eggon community to honor a remarkable cultural titan who dedicated his life to the preservation and elevation of our Eggon heritage. At the age of 65, Musa left us in the unfortunate manner of hanging in Nassarawa Eggon, a loss that resonates deeply within the hearts of all who knew him.

Musa was not just a musician; he was an embodiment of Eggon culture and tradition. His legendary contributions to Eggon music, coupled with his unwavering commitment to preserving our cultural customs, have left an indelible mark that will resonate for generations to come. Through his songs and performances, he shared the richness of our traditions, educating and inspiring many about the values and narratives that define us as Eggon people.

His adept ability to weave stories into melodies made him a beloved figure in our community. Musa's passion was infectious; he brought people together through music, fostering unity and strength among the Eggon. He knew that music is not just for entertainment but is a vital means of cultural expression and storytelling.

As we reflect on his life and legacy, it is imperative that we, as the Eggon Traditional Council, call upon all government functionaries of Eggon extraction and the Executive Chairman of Nassarawa Eggon Local Government Council to pay homage to this legendary leader. Let us honor Musa Sale Kalala not just through words but through actions that promote and support Eggon culture and arts. We should establish a foundation to continue his work of preserving our cultural heritage and encourage the next generation of musicians and storytellers to follow in his footsteps.

Let this tribute serve not only as recognition of Musa’s unparalleled contributions but also as a call to action for all Eggon people. May we unite to honor the memory of Musa Sale Kalala by ensuring that his legacy thrives within our community and beyond.

Rest in peace, Musa. Your spirit will continue to live in our hearts and songs.

*TRIBUTE TO OUR OWN MAMMAN SHATTA*

*Late Baba Musa Sale*(*DANTANI*) *Musically known as KALALA*
*Aged 64 years (1962 - 2026).*

*Late Baba Musa Sale(DANTANI)* *KALALA hails from Alogani in Nasarawa Eggon LGA*

*He was a farmer and briefly a community school teacher before moving to Adogi, in Lafia LGA where he mastered the Eggon Garaya (A two stringed music instrument) and from there moved to Fadama Bauna and settled finally at Unguwan Roman Catholic in Nasarawa Eggon town where he became an Eggon music sensation in the 1980s up to the late 2000s*. *Thanks to an Igbo merchant known then as EMMA BRO, who recorded Kalala and most of our Eggon traditional artists in the 80s and 90s. No trace or any record of him. Whether he is still alive, relocated, or dead! Our researchers should dig up on the Igbo merchant who produced most of our traditional music of that era. It will be an interesting history*

*Kalala reigned amongst other renowned Eggon cultural music icons such as Aliyu Gnombo Lewa, musically known as Aliyu Dadi, Isa Kaduna Koro, Avu Eggah, Anzaku Ebuga (Bensuwe), Bulus Moa Ambga, all of blessed memory*

*He reportedy hanged himself to death on 6/01/2026. probably as a result of frustration with protracted illness and depression .He has since been buried at his home in Nasarawa Eggon*.

*He is survived by his wife and 10 (Ten) Children: Four(4) Sons and Six Daughters*

*Kalala entertained generations of Eggon society for about four decades with his melodious songs laced with humor, wits, histories, and praise of our great personalities*. *He discovered the popular backup vocalist Halima Na Mata of blessed memory, whom he sang his early songs with*. Sad that he was such a great entertainer of the
the community but was left to wallow in obscurity, and he departed in such a tragic manner

*Eggon Nation has been on trial these past months with tragic losses*

*Kalala, like many of our traditional musicians, lived in obscurity and penury despite dedicating their talents and lives to promote and keep our language, culture, and stories alive. His likes were never valued and celebrated by our people and community. They were seen as professional beggars. What a painful lack of foresight and pride in our cultural icons*

*But for my love of culture and traditional music, i often set out over the years to visit, honor and celebrate Late Kalala, Late Avu Egga in their homes in Nasarawa Eggon in my own little ways. I also often stopped over at Azuba to see Angbamasa, who broke the news of Kalala's tragic demise to me! There was actually a breakdown in communication for very long*

*The Eggon Nation owes Kalala and other late musical icons posthumous recognition, celebration, and immortalization like how other societies do. Their works must be properly archived for future generations*

*Gods mercy and forgiveness be unto you, Late Baba Musa Sale (DANTANI) aka KALALA! Your name and music live on!*

*I decided to release one of my favorite songs of Kalala, which i kept as a treasure to myself since year 2001. The song has a very deep message and wake-up call to the people in Eggon and Hausa!*

*TRIBUTE by Barr Maku Kigbu Mandela, BMK
