Allah says:

«"Whoever opposes the Messenger after guidance has become clear to him, and follows a way other than that of the believers, We will leave him to what he has chosen and will drive him into Hell—what an evil destination." (Qur'an 4:115)»

Allah also says:

«"Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah you have an excellent example for whoever hopes in Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah often." (Qur'an 33:21)»

These verses teach us to follow the Qur'an, the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and the way of his Companions (the Sahabah), who learned directly from him.

When someone dies, we should pray for them in the way the Prophet ﷺ taught. He taught this by his words and by his actions. He offered the funeral prayer (Janazah), made sincere du'a for the deceased, comforted the family, and encouraged people to ask Allah to forgive and have mercy on the dead.

There is no authentic evidence that the Prophet ﷺ or his Companions fixed special gatherings for the 3rd, 7th, or 40th day after a person's death. A Muslim may make du'a for the deceased at any time, but assigning these specific days as religious observances is not established in the authentic Sunnah.

The Prophet ﷺ is our best example in every act of worship. We should worship Allah as he taught, not according to our own ideas or customs.

When asked about fasting on Monday, the Prophet ﷺ said:

«"That is the day on which I was born and the day on which revelation came to me." (Sahih Muslim)»

Instead of holding a yearly celebration for his birthday, the Prophet ﷺ thanked Allah by fasting on Mondays. This is the example he left for his followers.

Giving a halal gift to family, friends, or others is a good deed and can be done at any time. However, the Prophet ﷺ did not teach people to fix his birthday as a yearly day for exchanging gifts. It is better to keep gifts general and not attach them to a specific religious date unless there is evidence from the Qur'an or the authentic Sunnah.

May Allah make us among those who follow the Qur'an, the Sunnah of His Messenger ﷺ, and the righteous way of the Sahabah. May Allah forgive our deceased Muslims, have mercy on them, and grant them Paradise. Ameen.
