Forces under South Africa’s General Louis Botha defeated German colonial troops. South Africa captured Otavifontein that day. This basically ended German resistance in German South West Africa [now Namibia], and South Africa occupied it until 1990.

German pilot _Leutnant_ Kurt Wintgens shot down an Allied plane using a Fokker E.I with a machine gun that could fire through the propeller. This kicked off the "Fokker Scourge" — a period where German Fokker planes dominated the Western Front.
