My brothers enrolled my cousin in data analytics course last year. He finished NYSC four years ago and had been jobless.

They got him a laptop and put him on ₦10k monthly. I also shared 5GB MTN data with him daily.

We always asked about his progress. He said it was going well.

Last month, my brother secured him a job through a friend.

After two weeks, he still hadn’t sent his portfolio.

My brother called him again.

He said, “Bro, I no learn any data analytics oo. My head no carry am. I don sell the laptop since.”

My friend went to his pastor because he urgently needed ₦300,000.

The pastor told him, "Don't worry, our church gives miracle loans."

He prayed for him and sent him the ₦300,000.

My friend was excited and said, "God has finally answered my prayer!"

The pastor smiled and said, "Yes, but you have to repay it next Sunday with ₦15,000 interest."

My friend looked at him and said, "Pastor, I thought it was a miracle?"

The pastor replied, "It is. The miracle is that you will find the money to pay it back."

I helped my jobless neighbour secure a teaching job that pays ₦100k monthly.

She only needs to go to the school three times a week, teach her French classes and leave.

She said she couldn’t use her PGDE to be earning just ₦100k a month.

“Okay, so what do you plan to do?” I asked her.

“I want to start a YouTube channel where I’ll be teaching French.”

“Fantastic idea,” I replied.

Then she said, “Em, Joyce, can you borrow me ₦500k to get an iPhone? Once I start earning, I’ll pay you back.”

“Haaa! I’m sorry, sis. I don’t have that kind of money.”

She replied, “Are you not working? If you don’t want to borrow me, just say it clearly.”

I greeted her yesterday.

She didn’t answer me.

Did I do anything wrong? fans

My neighbour's daughter was having problems with her father.

She called her boyfriend, and he rushed to our compound and started fighting the man.

After the incident, my neighbour said he would never allow the young man to marry his daughter.

His wife disagreed and said that the guy would marry their daughter whether he liked it or not.

Later, the boyfriend returned and apologized.

My neighbour told him that he had forgiven him, but he would still never allow him to marry his daughter.

His wife then told their daughter to pack her bags and go and live with her boyfriend.

She did.

Six months later, she became pregnant, and the boyfriend started beating her.

The father refused to get involved.

Now his wife is complaining that he is keeping quiet about the whole situation.

My former neighbour forwarded her account details to me on WhatsApp two days ago.

She asked me for financial help.

I sent her ₦10k.

“Mummy T, good day. Did you receive the ₦10k?”

She replied:

“Yes, I did. The money no reach anything sef. As I enter market to get small things, everything finish.”

Let's learn together

Flight Attendants: “Sir, please remain seated. The police are waiting for you when we land.”

Pilot: “We’ve received an emergency request from the authorities. Nobody is allowed to leave the aircraft.”

Me: “What is happening? Why are the police looking for Mr. Ben?”

Police: “Mr. Ben, you are under arrest for the disappearance of your wife three years ago.”

Mr. Ben suddenly looked at me.

Mr. Ben: “Tell them you know me. Tell them I didn’t do anything.”

I stared at him. I had only met him that morning when he offered to help me with my luggage.

Then the police officer pointed at the woman sitting beside him.

Police: “Sir, we also need to speak to the woman travelling with you.”…..
The woman slowly removed her sunglasses.

It was my mother.

The same mother I had buried three years ago.

Me: “Mum…?”

She looked at me with tears in her eyes.

Mother: “I’m sorry, darling. Your father told you I was dead because he wanted you to stop looking for me.”

I turned toward Mr. Ben.

Me: “Who are you?”

He lowered his head.

Mr. Ben: “Your father.”

The entire cabin went silent.

But before the police could handcuff him, my mother grabbed my arm and whispered:

“Don’t let them arrest him. He saved me.”

I looked at her in confusion.

Then she handed me a small envelope.
Inside was a photograph of me as a child standing beside Mr. Ben and a police officer who had been declared dead 20 years ago.

On the back of the photograph were four words:

“Your real father is alive.”

I looked up.

Mr. Ben was gone.

The police searched the plane, but Mr. Ben had disappeared through the emergency service door before they could catch him. My mother finally confessed that three years ago, she had faked her death because she discovered that my father had been involved in a criminal network.

But there was one thing she had never told me.

Mr. Ben wasn’t my father.
He was the police officer who had helped her escape and the man in the photograph was my real father, the same man everyone believed had died twenty years ago.

Before I could ask another question, my phone rang.

It was Mr. Ben.

Mr. Ben: “Don’t trust your mother. She knows why your father disappeared.”

Then the call ended.

I looked at my mother.

She was crying.

And for the first time, I realized the police hadn’t come to arrest Mr. Ben.

They had come to protect me from him.

My uncle who lives abroad sent his wife $350 through me last month. I could not reach her on the phone so I drove down to her place.

When I got there, she apologized for missing my calls and offered me $50 as appreciation. I collected it and left.

Yesterday, my uncle called me asking when I was going to return the $50 his wife borrowed me. He said the money he sent was for business and that she had not been able to start because of me.

I was stunned.

I ended the call and immediately sent her 70,000 naira, the equivalent of $50.

She called shortly after and apologized. She had used the money for something else and used me to cover her tracks with her husband.

She asked me to send my account details so she could pay me back.

I did not.

She sent the money back anyway with a text:

"Please don't send this money back unless you want to scatter my marriage. And if you do, I will not forgive you."
