Social media is teaching you to be lonely. Having multiple partners at the same time destroys your brain and prevents you from building a healthy, lasting relationship. The illusion that there's someone better out there prevents you from seeing the value of someone already by your side, because your brain enters a mode called "best-choice bias." You start to think you can always get something nicer, more exciting, more perfect, and so you never truly give yourself to anyone. You live trapped in a dopamine cycle: desire, conquest, boredom, and abandonment. The mechanism that gives you pleasure when you conquer is what instantly makes you lose interest and pushes you to look for someone else. It's that addictive. The excess of options makes you abandon the person at the first difficulty. Your brain begins to associate emotional effort as a waste of time, and the dopamine that previously motivated you to persist and build something real now only pushes you to replace, to move on to the next person—it's that simple. You begin to believe that the problem is always someone else and that there's someone better out there waiting for you. This illusion of abundance activates your short-term reward system. Your brain prefers the expectation of something new to investing energy in something real, profound, and lasting.
