Burna Boy has carved out yet another chapter in his legacy, securing his place as the Nigerian artist with the highest number of appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Burna Boy Breaks Nigerian Record on ‘The Tonight Show’
With his latest 2025 performance, the Grammy winner now stands tall with four visits to the iconic late-night stage, more than any other Nigerian or Afrobeats act has achieved.

His journey on Fallon’s stage tells its own story. It began in 2019, when he first stepped into American living rooms with the unmistakable energy of Afrobeats.

He returned a year later, in 2020, right as his sound was exploding across the globe. By 2022, Burna Boy was no longer just a rising star; he was a full-blown international figure, and the show welcomed him back once more.

Fast-forward to 2025, and that fourth appearance didn’t just feel like another performance. It felt like a marker, a quiet announcement that Burna Boy’s influence has lasted, grown, and settled comfortably into the global mainstream.

Each invitation from Fallon has carried weight. It’s proof that Burna Boy isn’t only entertaining; he’s captivating. He represents a cultural movement, a musical shift, and a continent bursting with creativity.

Through every performance, he has used that stage as both a runway for new music and a spotlight for African sound.

This latest milestone simply reinforces what many already believe: Burna Boy isn’t just one of Africa’s brightest stars; he’s one of its most consistent, influential, and globally embraced voices.

🚨 Burna Boy has now performed on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” Four times (2019, 2020, 2022, 2025).

The Nigerian entertainment industry has never been just about music, movies, and celebrity culture. It has also been a battleground for social justice, a place where influential figures challenge power structures, amplify the voices of everyday citizens, and bring national issues into public consciousness.

These celebrities, often branded as troublemakers by critics, have consistently used their platforms to call out injustice and demand accountability. Here are some of the most prominent figures who continue to push the boundaries of activism in Nigeria.

Fela Kuti: The Blueprint for Celebrity Activism

Any conversation about activism in Nigerian entertainment must begin with Fela Anikulapo Kuti, the pioneer of Afrobeat and a fearless critic of oppression. Through his music, Fela spoke boldly against government brutality, corruption, and the socioeconomic realities that Nigerians endured.

He was unapologetic, confrontational, and unapologetically vocal. His legacy not only reshaped Nigerian music but also established a template for the uncompromising celebrity activist, a tradition today’s stars continue to uphold.

Falz: The Lawyer-Turned-Musician Who Became a Voice for the Youth

Falz, a rapper, actor, and trained lawyer, became one of the defining voices of the protests, emerging as a figure who not only spoke but also mobilised.

He campaigned against police brutality, corruption, and government negligence, using both his public influence and legal background to articulate the demands of Nigerian youth. He consistently called out the misuse of COVID-19 palliatives and remained physically present at protests even when his safety was threatened.

Falz has since continued championing civic participation, urging Nigerians to vote wisely and speak out against failed leadership.

Iyabo Ojo: Nollywood’s Defender of the Vulnerable

Iyabo Ojo cemented her place in Nigeria’s activism landscape when she led the call for the arrest of Baba Ijesha, who was accused of ra**ng a minor. Despite backlash from industry veterans, Iyabo remained firm and fearless.

She further demonstrated her advocacy spirit following the death of singer Mohbad, standing with his family, demanding a transparent investigation, and using her influence to shield his widow and child from public harassment.

Iyabo has also been outspoken in her political views, openly criticising the government and declaring her voting choices, actions that earned her backlash but also deep public respect. Her activism continues to be driven by empathy and an unwavering commitment to justice.

Mr Macaroni: Comedy, Courage, and Consistency

Mr Macaroni has become one of the most recognisable activist voices online. During the protests, he was visibly and vocally active, even after he was arrested while demanding justice for victims of police brutality.

He encouraged Nigerians who could not attend physical protests to use social media as their megaphone, ensuring no voice was too small to matter. Beyond , he has continued speaking out against government failures and highlighting the plight of Nigerians facing religious violence, persecution, and insecurity. His blend of comedy and activism has made him both relatable and influential.

Tacha’s Public Advocacy: From Social Media to Street Protests

Tacha, the former Big Brother Naija housemate, is another high-profile celebrity whose activism is impossible to ignore. Known for her unapologetic personality, Tacha used her large platform to rally Nigerians, especially during the early stages of the protests in 2020.

She took to social media to inform her followers about the planned protests, urging them to join the fight for their rights. Tacha didn’t just talk the talk, she walked the walk, showing up to protests herself, amplifying the voices of those demanding justice.

Beyond the protests, Tacha was also vocal in the lead-up to the 2023 elections, encouraging Nigerians to vote wisely and use their democratic power. She consistently highlighted issues like corruption and the need for effective governance.

Additionally, Tacha has called out the Nigerian government for ignoring the ongoing Christian genocide happening in the country, a cause that has earned her respect from many who feel the issue has been overlooked by both government and media.

Changing the Culture of Silence
These celebrities, Falz, Iyabo Ojo, Mr Macaroni, and others following in Fela’s footsteps, have helped demolish the long-standing culture of silence in the Nigerian entertainment industry. Their courage has emboldened ordinary Nigerians to speak up, challenge injustice, and participate in the national conversation.

In a country where activism often comes with real risks, their willingness to stand on the frontlines makes them more than entertainers. It makes them heroes.

So, which Nigerian celebrity activist is your superhero?

Nigerian music legend, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Face Idibia has again called on Nigerians and the Idibia family to stop with the comments about his marriage to Edo lawmaker, Natasha Osawaru.

In a video he shared on social media this morning, 2Face said Natasha has been getting death threats since the day his former manager, Kaka Igbokwe, came on social media to lay serious accusations against her.

This new development comes after 2Baba’s family petitioned the Inspector-General of Police over alleged assault and financial misappropriation involving Natasha.

In a letter dated November 12, the Idibia family urged the police to launch an investigation into incidents they say have caused the singer emotional distress, financial loss, and reputational harm.

According to the petition, reports were received from 2Baba and witnesses alleging incidents of physical assault in both the United Kingdom and Abuja.

The family further alleged that Natasha accessed and transferred funds from the singer’s phone and bank accounts without his permission.

She is also accused of withholding 2Baba’s personal documents, including his passport, allegedly preventing him from fulfilling business engagements.

In response, 2Baba, in a video shared via his social media page on Friday, accused his family of destroying him and publicly damaging Natasha’s character.

The music icon emphasised that the situation has escalated and that he will no longer be silent for anyone to tarnish his image, stressing that he is grown and has the right to make his own choices.

He also accused his brothers of destroying the reputation of Natasha and putting her in harm’s way.

According to 2Baba, his family also did the same thing to his estranged wife, Annie, adding that he is perfectly fine and there is no marriage without issues.

Part of his words read,

“This whole situation has gotten dangerously out of hand, Natasha is getting death threats. I will not stay silent anymore.

I’m grown and have the right to do what I want and be with whoever I want. My family, who claimed they wanted to save me, have actually destroyed me and damaged someone’s daughter’s character.

Natasha and I have had a quarrel, tell me who does not quarrel with their spouse. Things are getting out of hand but I’m perfectly okay. My family also did this same thing with Annie.

Veteran singer 2Baba has accused his family members of destroying him in their bid to settle his recent quarrel with his wife, Natasha Osawaru.

As fans and well-wishers continue heated discussions on 2Baba’s ordeal, he says he is a grown man who has the right to be with whoever he chooses.

Speaking in a video shared online, the legendary artist doubled down on his stance that the issue has gone dangerously out of hand.

“This whole thing has gotten dangerously out of hand, and I’m not just gonna be quiet anymore.

“I feel I have to say some facts here. I’m a grown man, and I believe I have the right to be with whoever I want to be with. You understand?

“My family has, in trying to say they want to save me or say they want to help me, has actually destroyed and they have killed somebody’s daughter’s character.

“Like they’ve just literally killed somebody. You understand? Natasha is getting death threats right now,” 2Baba said partly in the video clip.

Nigerian singer Davido has criticized Jubril A. Gawat, Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, following a social media post promoting Wizkid’s upcoming concert.

Naija News reports that Gawat shared a poster for Wizkid’s December 28 show at TBS, describing the singer in a way that drew praise from fans.

He used the caption: “Ọmọ Wa ni ”.

One fan commented on Wizkid’s influence in Lagos.

“Wizkid is the face of Lagos. Baba Bolu always promote Lagos.” Gawat replied: “Yes correct. We are proud of him.”

When another fan mentioned Davido, Gawat replied that his principal was proud of Wizkid.

“Ore oga nko?”

Davido reacted sharply, telling Gawat to move on from past issues.

He also referenced a previous tweet by Gawat, urging him to let the matter go.

“Bro it’s been a year let it go … why e still dey do u .. grow up. Since yesterday… let it go nah … cheer up.”

This online exchange is not the first between the two.

In September 2024, Davido and Gawat clashed over political matters following the Edo State governorship election.

The feud began when Davido criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission, calling it dangerous.

Gawat, an APC member, responded cryptically, while Davido continued to challenge him, referencing their past encounters with Governor Sanwo-

Naija News reports that Governor Adeleke officially resigned from the PDP on November 4, 2025, though the news only came to light on Monday night.

The resignation letter, later shared online by his aide Olawale Rasheed, revealed that the governor stepped down because of ongoing issues within the party at the national level.

In the letter addressed to his Ward 2 chairman in Ede North, Adeleke acknowledged the party’s support during his rise from senator to governor but said the unresolved disputes made it impossible for him to continue
