Dear actors,

It's important to note that improvising your lines isn't necessarily wrong however, there's a saying that goes, "Know the rules before you break them."

Improvisation is a creative skill that requires a strong sense of professionalism. I’ve worked with some of our experienced actors in the past, and I must say, when they improvise, they do it in a way that adds depth and life to the story not taking away from it.

Please understand that every line in your script was carefully crafted and thoroughly reviewed before reaching you. So when you change those lines without considering their weight or context, you risk weakening the message or even "killing" the depth of the dialogue.

Let me give you a practical example:

I've had a situation whereby the original line is:
“The problem with you ladies is that whenever you are caught cheating, you try to flip it back on your partner and make it feel like he’s the one to be blamed.”

This is a general and intentionally controversial line aimed at sparking thought and conversation around a gender-related issue.

However, the actor delivered it as:
“The problem with you lady is that whenever you are caught cheating, you try to flip it back to make it feel like I’m the one to be blamed.”

Now, the tone shifts from general social commentary to a personal accusation, which weakens the intended impact of the scene.

In conclusion, feel free to bring your energy and creativity to your roles, but always respect the script. If you believe a line can be improved, let’s discuss it during rehearsal so we maintain the story’s integrity while also bringing out the best in your performance.
