Fleetwood Draw Gives Arteta Another Chance to Trust the Kids

By Nwaeze Tactical Lens

As an Arsenal fan, the Fleetwood draw feels like an interesting one, especially after what we saw against Ipswich.

After beating Ipswich 4–2 with a heavily rotated side, there is every reason to expect Arteta to rotate again rather than put unnecessary pressure on his regular starters on a tie coming up in the last week of October.

And this is where Max Dowman and the other academy players make this fixture even more exciting. Dowman's two-goal performance against Ipswich was the headline, but 17-year-old Marli Salmon also impressed on his second senior start, while Theo Julienne and Ife Ibrahim were among the youngsters who got valuable minutes.

Arteta has already stressed that Dowman's development needs to be carefully managed because he is only 16, but performances like this make the Carabao Cup an ideal platform to gradually introduce these youngsters.

What a time to be an Arsenal fan.
