TRANSFORMING NSUKKA THROUGH STRATEGIC PROJECTS
By Rtn. Ekemba Chibuzor FISAM
True development does not happen by chance; it happens when leaders decide to put people first. In Nsukka, we have witnessed this truth in action. Under my leadership, projects have been carefully designed not just to build structures, but to touch lives providing water to families, opening roads for traders, bringing light to forgotten communities, empowering our youth, and strengthening security.
Every project tells a human story: a child reading under electric light for the first time, a farmer taking produce to market with ease, or a young graduate finding digital skills that open the door to global opportunities. This is what grassroots governance should be inclusive, sustainable, and people-centered.
Spotlight Project: The Nsukka Tech Hub Initiative
If there is one project that captures the heartbeat of our vision for tomorrow, it is the Tech Hub Project. In today’s world, opportunities live online. Sadly, many of our talented youths have been left behind, not for lack of intelligence, but for lack of access.
The Nsukka Tech Hub is our answer. Designed to train 200 young men and women in ICT and entrepreneurship, it is not just a center with computers it is a place of hope. Courses in web development, digital marketing, coding, and data analytics will prepare our youths to compete globally while creating opportunities locally.
But the Tech Hub does more. By integrating a Local Government digital portal, it also brings governance closer to the people, making services faster, transparent, and accessible.
The hub is more than a building. It is a signal that Nsukka is ready for the digital age and that our young people will not be left behind.
Other Transformational Projects
1. Water Infrastructure Development
Boreholes have been constructed in Owere Lejja, Amaji Umakashi, and Utobolo, while older water projects in Umuakpor were revitalized. These efforts mean women no longer have to trek long distances for clean water, and families can now drink and cook with ease.
2. Road Infrastructure and Beautification;
Roads like the 1.6km GRA Ring Road have been completed, while others like the 5.6km Nguru–Ede–Oballa–Lejja Road are ongoing.
Rehabilitated routes now ease traffic, while kerb painting, billboards, and traffic breakers make Nsukka safer and more beautiful.
3. Electrification Initiatives
For the first time ever, the people of Ibagwa-Agu experienced electricity through our electrification project.
Transformers ranging from 100KVA to 500KVA were distributed across several communities and streets, giving small businesses and families the power they long desired.
4. Market Development
The Agbani International Market, a massive project, is under construction and set for commissioning on 4th January 2026.
Markets at Afor Opi, Aku Road, Ogige, and Ikpa are expanding with new stalls, electrification, and solar-powered street lights to ensure traders can do business safely, even at night.
5. Flood and Erosion Control.
In Lejja, erosion that once threatened lives and roads near St. Raphael Catholic Parish has been fully tackled.
6. Security Enhancement
With 525 new Neighborhood Watch recruits trained, and drones deployed for surveillance, Nsukka is now safer.
The reactivation of the Okpuje Police Division, closed since the 2020 EndSARS crisis, has drastically reduced crime in that area.
7. Education and Youth Development
Scholarships have been awarded to students studying at home and abroad.
More than 265 indigent students received JAMB forms, giving them a chance to pursue higher education.
Teachers are being retrained for the Smart Green School initiative, ensuring our children get world-class education.
Sports development is alive with the creation of Nsukka’s male and female football teams, giving our youths a chance to shine beyond local boundaries.
Conclusion
The Tech Hub Project stands as a bold symbol of where we are headed a future powered by knowledge and innovation. Yet, it is only one part of a bigger story: boreholes that quench thirst, roads that connect villages, electricity that powers dreams, markets that feed families, and schools that prepare tomorrow’s leaders.
Nsukka is rising, not just in structures but in spirit. These projects remind us that true development is about people about lifting burdens, restoring dignity, and opening doors of opportunity. When vision meets commitment, transformation becomes possible, and a brighter future begins to unfold for everyone.
