A 28 year old woman identified as Juliet has been beaten to death following a dispute with an unidentified man in the Ajah area of Lagos State.

According to reports, the altercation began when Juliet smashed the windshield of the man car during an argument on Monday.

A source revealed that the man, enraged by her action, called some local boys who attacked Juliet, took her to an uncompleted building, and beat her until she fell into a coma.

When sympathizers later arrived at the scene and tried to rush her to the hospital, they discovered she had already passed away.

Abducted Edo seminarian, Emmanuel Alabi, dies in captivity

The Catholic Diocese of Auchi has confirmed the death of Emmanuel Alabi, one of the three junior seminarians abducted by gunmen earlier this year.

The sad development was announced late Tuesday in a statement issued by the Assistant Director of Communications for the Diocese, Rev. Fr. Linus Imoedemhe.

According to the statement, Alabi died in the custody of his abductors after months of captivity.

It will be recalled that three seminarians – Japhet Jesse, Joshua Aleobua, and Emmanuel Alabi – were kidnapped on July 10, 2025, from the Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary in Ivianokpodi, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State.

Reports indicate that Japhet Jesse was released shortly after the abduction, following the alleged payment of a ransom by his family. However, the other two, Joshua Aleobua and Emmanuel Alabi, remained in captivity for over three months, reportedly due to the Church’s refusal to pay ransom to the kidnappers.

In the statement, Rev. Fr. Imoedemhe expressed gratitude for the safe return of the other victims, while mourning the loss of Alabi.

“We are grateful to God for the safe release of Japhet Jesse much earlier, and most recently, Joshua Aleobua, who regained his freedom on November 4, 2025.

“However, with deep sorrow, we announce the passing of seminarian Emmanuel Alabi, who lost his life in the course of the ordeal,” the statement read in part.

Reacting to the tragic news, the Bishop of the Diocese of Auchi, Most Rev. Gabriel Dunia, expressed profound grief over the death of the young seminarian.

He called on security agencies to intensify their efforts to protect lives and property, describing the prevailing wave of insecurity across the country as deeply alarming.

Dunia also urged political leaders to rise above partisan interests and place national security and citizens’ safety at the forefront, especially as the 2027 general elections approach.

“The Diocese of Auchi remains steadfast in its commitment to faith, peace, and justice, trusting in God’s mercy to console the bereaved family, the seminary community, and all those affected by this tragedy,” the statement added.

U.S. lawmakers urge sanctions on Miyetti Allah over alleged religious vi%lations

The United States House of Representatives has called on the Departments of State and Treasury to impose sanctions on individuals and groups, including the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria and Miyetti Allah Kautal H**e, over alleged religious freedom vi%lations in Nigeria.

The resolution, H. Res. 860, was introduced by Rep. Christopher Smith and co-sponsored by Rep. Paul Huizenga. It commends former President Donald Trump for redesignating Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern (CPC)” following reports of widespread persecution of Christians and other religious minorities.

Citing NGO and media reports, the lawmakers accused Islamist terr%r groups and Fulani militias of mass k+llings, abductions, and destruction of worship centers, especially in Benue and Plateau States. They urged the US to impose visa bans and asset freezes under the Global Magnitsky Act and to list Fulani militias as Entities of Particular Concern.

They further advised that US foreign aid to Nigeria be tied to measurable human-rights improvements and that direct humanitarian support be provided to faith-based groups assisting displaced victims.

In response, Nigeria’s Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, dismissed the CPC designation as a result of “misrepresentation and misinformation,” insisting that terr%rism in the country affects both Christians and Muslims, not any specific religious group.

Your’re misleading Nigerians, we’ll resume strike – ASUU to Education Minister

The University of Jos branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has accused the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, of issuing “misleading statements” regarding the Federal Government’s fulfilment of agreements with university workers.
In a statement by the branch chairperson, Prof Jurbe Joseph Molwus, the union warned that it may resume its suspended strike if the issues remain unresolved within the next two weeks.

ASUU recalled that it had on October 22, 2025, issued a four-week ultimatum to the Federal Government to meet its outstanding demands or risk a total strike.

The university teachers said that two weeks after the ultimatum, “not much progress has been recorded,” as they are yet to receive their withheld salaries, wage award arrears, and other entitlements.

“As we mobilise for our National Executive Council, NEC meeting scheduled for November 8–9, we expect that outstanding entitlements such as the 3.5 months withheld salaries, 25/35 per cent wage award arrears, promotion arrears, and unpaid salaries of some members would have been paid by now.

“But all we get are press releases from the Honourable Minister of Education. What we need are credit alerts, not misleading statements,” the statement read.

The union also expressed concern that the N50 billion Revitalisation Fund, which the government claimed to have released weeks ago, has not reached any university.

Reacting to the minister’s claim that the government had disbursed N2.3 billion to clear salary and promotion arrears across federal universities, ASUU dismissed the statement as “false and embarrassing,” saying the amount could barely cover the needs of three universities.

“The minister’s claim of clearing the backlog exists only in his imagination. N2.3 billion is grossly inadequate and almost insulting. The minister must state clearly what fraction of the outstanding entitlements this money is meant to cover and for whom,” the union said.

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 60-year-old man, Ndianefo Cypre, and two other suspected kidnappers and recovered over N4 million ransom collected from the victim.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, stated this on Wednesday at the police headquarters, Asaba, the state capital, while giving his scorecard for October.

Olufemi said, “The command has arrested suspected kidnappers and recovered N4,100,000 which is the money collected from the victim.

“Acting on a distress call on the kidnapping of two persons (names withheld) who were kidnapped at Oduke, Asaba, on October 3, 2025, the commander Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime squad was detailed to investigate.

“In compliance with my directives, operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime squad acting on intelligence trailed one Ndianefo Cypre 60-year-old man, whose bank account details were used to collect the ransom, to Isieke Village at Ihiala LGA, Anambra State,

“Another suspect, Onwe Sunday 49, was also arrested at Ihiala in possession of 1.5 million which was part of the ransom.

Festus Keyamo , SAN writes Donald Trump.
👇

Dear President Trump ,

I am a lawyer of more than three decades of active practice, most of which was dedicated to activism in promotion and protection of human rights. In 2017, right there in Washington, I was found worthy to be awarded the Global Human Rights Award by the United States Global Leadership Council, which had the eminent Dr. Reuben Egolf as its Chairman at the time. This was in recognition of my work over the years in the promotion of the rights of the downtrodden people.
I was also born and raised as a Christian in Nigeria.

There is, therefore, a need for me to add my little voice to the issue that has agitated your mind lately (with the hope it would be heard, even as a whimper): the purported ‘mass killings’ of Christians in Nigeria.

I was appointed by the present President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as his Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, along with other Christians. Because of my strong Christian background and ethical pedigree, it would have been most unconscionable for me to associate with - let alone accept to serve or continue to serve - a government if truly there is any scintilla of truth in the assertion that Christians are SPECIFICALLY targeted in Nigeria for persecution, killings or harassment ON ACCOUNT OF THEIR FAITH. It is simply not true.

Just like the U.S and many countries in the world, we have faced our own fair share of societal violence; ours has been perpetrated by deadly groups known as Boko Haram (now seriously decimated), herdsmen, and cattle rustlers. These decades-old problems were inherited by our President who has made great progress in the fight against these insurgents. In fact, most of the security Chiefs appointed by him are Christians, so it would be unthinkable to imagine them being complicit in the killing of fellow Christians in Nigeria.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria, though a Muslim, is a known ‘moderate’, whose wife is a Pastor of one of the biggest Pentecostal Churches in Nigeria and most of his children are practising Christians. When he was Governor of Lagos State, he regularly invited Christian Pastors for prayers and worship sessions at the Government House. He will be the last person to either adopt the killing of Christians as a State Policy, or condone such acts or be complicit in them.

Nigeria is a secular State and our Constitution explicitly provides for freedom of religion and prohibits the adoption of a State religion, reflecting its status as a multi-faith nation. This legal framework underpins the country's diverse religious landscape, which includes significant populations of Muslims, Christians, and adherents of traditional African religions, coexisting within a nation’s space.

In all honesty, the insecurity in some parts of the country over the years has impacted adherents of all religions and this government has not sought to protect one set of adherents and ignore the others.

Ordinarily, opposition politicians will oppose the government of the day. But on this matter, President Trump, you would have observed that leaders of the opposition parties in Nigeria are united on one point: there is no TARGETED killing of Christians in Nigeria.

President Trump, the Nigerian people ask for deep and sincere understanding from your government at this point; the Nigerian people ask for support and cooperation from your government at this point to confront this decades-old menace of terrorism; we ask for collaboration; we ask for frank and open dialogue at this time with your government; we ask that you broaden your sources of information at this time so as to get a balanced view of the happenings in Nigeria.

The United States-based Igbo group, Rising Sun Foundation Incorporated (RSFI), has condemned the continued detention and trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), describing his arrest as unlawful. In a statement signed by Rev. Fr. Augustine Odimmegwa and Maxwell Dede, the group said Kanu was abducted, not extradited, and charged under a repealed law, the Terrorism Prevention (Amendment) Act 2013, which no longer exists.

RSFI criticised the Federal Government and security agencies for ignoring the Appeal Court’s decision that discharged Kanu, insisting that no Nigerian court has jurisdiction to try him since his rendition from Kenya violated international law. The group maintained that justice cannot thrive when the law is disregarded and called for Kanu’s immediate release in compliance with both domestic and international legal standards.
