Yoruba Union Calls on Tinubu to Reclassify Parts of Kwara and Kogi States

The Yoruba Union, Ìgbìnmó Májékóbájé Ilé-Yorùbá, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to exercise his presidential authority to formally remove Kwara State and parts of Kogi State from the classification as “northern states.”

In a statement issued on Sunday and jointly signed by the Convener, Olusola Badero, and the Home Director, Princess Balogun, the group stressed that Kwara South, Kwara Central, and Kogi West are predominantly Yoruba-speaking regions with deep cultural and ancestral ties to the Yoruba nation.

The group argued that continuing to categorise these areas as “northern states” amounts to political and cultural misrepresentation, undermining their identity and leaving them vulnerable to systemic marginalisation.

“These regions are historically Yoruba in language and heritage. Misclassifying them as northern states diminishes their identity and ignores their cultural roots,” the statement read.

⚖️ Court to Reassign EFCC’s Money Laundering Suit Against Ex-NNPC GMD Mele Kyari

The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Terhemba Tsoho, is set to reassign the money laundering case filed by the EFCC against former NNPC Group Managing Director, Mele Kyari, to a new judge.

This comes after Justice Emeka Nwite, who had been handling the matter as a vacation judge, formally returned the case file to the Chief Judge following the end of the court vacation (late July – September 16, 2025).

Justice Nwite had earlier, on August 19, granted the EFCC’s request to temporarily freeze four accounts in Jaiz Bank linked to Kyari, and fixed September 23 for a compliance report.

The reassignment means a new judge will now take over the high-profile case as proceedings continue.
