THREE PILLARS of POULTRY BIOSECURITY: Your Foundation for Success

After two decades in the field, I’ve learned that effective poultry biosecurity rests on three fundamental pillars. Think of them as the legs of a stool – remove one, and the whole system becomes unstable.

Pillar 1: Isolation
This is about controlling what comes onto your farm. Every person, vehicle, piece of equipment, and new bird represents a potential disease risk. I’ve seen too many farms compromised because someone thought “just this once” wouldn’t matter.

Pillar 2: Traffic Control
Once someone or something is on your property, how they move around matters enormously. The farmer who allows visitors to walk from the sick bay directly to the brooder house is asking for trouble.

Pillar 3: Sanitation
Clean isn’t just nice to have – it’s non-negotiable. This pillar ensures that anything potentially carrying pathogens gets thoroughly cleaned and disinfected before it can cause harm.

When cash flow is limited but results are needed, this cost-effective broiler starter formula provides satisfactory performance.

Maize (Yellow Corn): 55%
Soybean Meal (44% CP): 25%
Rice Offal: 8%
Maize Offal: 5%
Fish Meal: 3%
Bone Meal: 2%
Salt: 0.3%
Premix (Vitamins/Minerals): 0.25%
Limestone: 1.45%
This formula typically costs about 15-20% less than premium alternatives while still delivering 21.5% protein and 2,950 ME/kg.

Poultry Biosecurity!
Good biosecurity practices are the main way to prevent diseases in broiler birds, but proper nutrition also helps a lot by boosting their immune system and keeping them healthier.

Stop Chickens from Eating Eggs

Ever walked into the coop excited for eggs… only to find broken shells and yolk everywhere?

You’re not alone. Thousands of farmers face this problem daily—chickens pecking and eating their own eggs.

This usually happens due to calcium deficiency, stress, or boredom—not because your hens are ‘bad.
Solution:
👉 Here are 3 quick fixes:
1️⃣ Provide extra calcium (oyster shells or crushed limestone).
2️⃣ Collect eggs three times daily.
3️⃣ Keep hens busy with cabbage balls, water leaf, hanging greens, or scratch grains.”

Have you faced this problem? Comment ‘YES’ if your flock has ever done this, and share what worked for you 👇. Your tip might save another farmer’s eggs!
