History speaks louder than sentiments. - Oba Olugbon Speech at Coronation.
This is not about any individual; it is about the enduring Institution and Throne of the Soun of Ogbomosoland. Long before today, our revered traditional rulers understood and acknowledged the historical leadership of the Soun.
In his 24th July 1992 installation speech, the late Oba Samuel Adegboyega Osunbade, FCA, the immediate past Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, unequivocally declared in his speech.
"The Soun Institution has superceded all Obas and Chiefs in this area. In Soun's capacity as the Chairman of the Ogbomoso Traditional Council... this Olugbon will act as an effective, loyal and dependable deputy to the Soun in the scheme of things."
He further affirmed:
"Having accepted, without reservation, the leadership status of the Institution of the Soun..."
And concluded:
"All the Obas must accept and respect the leadership of the Soun of Ogbomosoland."
These were not mere ceremonial words—they reflected a commitment to respect for history, and the preservation of our traditional institutions.
This post is not intended to diminish or degrade any traditional ruler or institution. Every throne deserves respect. Rather, it is a sincere reminder to those fanning the embers of disunity in Ogbomosoland that history already provides the foundation for peaceful coexistence and mutual respect.
Let us honour our heritage, uphold the truth, and protect the unity our forebears worked to preserve.
History remains our most impartial witness.
