UNEVEN WEIGH DISTRIBUTION; WHAT EVERY SHOEMAKER MUST PAY ATTENTION TO.
When a customer brings a shoe with the front or one side completely worn out, it’s not always about the quality of the sole, it’s sometime a sign of uneven weight distribution.
Here’s what that means 👇🏽
When someone walks, their body weight should spread evenly across the heel, midfoot, and forefoot.
But when the balance shifts, maybe because of posture, foot shape, or even how they stand, one part of the sole starts carrying more pressure than the others.
Over time, that spot wears out faster.
That’s why you sometimes see the toe area almost gone while the heel still looks new.
As a shoemaker, this information is gold 💰
Because every sole you see tells a story about:
How your client walks or stands.
Whether their feet roll inward (overpronation) or outward.
And how you can help them get more comfort and balance from their shoes.
When repairing shoes like that, don’t just change the sole, observe the wear pattern.
You might need to:
Adjust the heel height slightly.
Use a firmer or softer sole compound.
Or add a small insole correction to balance pressure.
Shoemaking isn’t just craft — it’s also understanding movement.
The better you read a sole, the better your repairs and custom work become.
