Ifo Chairman Introduces Electric Tricycle to Local Riders

In a landmark move aimed at transforming transportation, promoting environmental sustainability, and tackling unemployment, the Ifo Local Government Area under the leadership of Hon. Kusimo has introduced the initiative of its first electric tricycle for local riders in partnership with Bristlecone THP, said it's significant to reduce operational costs for riders, boost economic activity, and promote eco-friendly mobility in the area.

The initiative unveiled on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at the Ifo Local Government Secretariat saw the Ifo Chairman partnered with Bristlecone THP, as the rollout of the first fleet of Electric Tricycles is expected soon.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Kusimo expressed gratitude to Bristlecone THP officials and the Tricycle Riders Association, highlighting the importance of the Electric Tricycles in improving comfort and convenience for residents. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to innovation and enhanced quality of life through strategic public-private partnerships.

The Ogun State Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Gbenga Dairo, represented by Mr. Babatunde Omisakin, praised the initiative, commending Hon. Kusimo for aligning with the vision of the Executive Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun, MFR, CON. He described the development as a major step toward affordable and accessible transportation for all.

Dr. Habeeb Danmole of Bristlecone THP lauded the Ifo administration for its foresight. He emphasized the numerous benefits of the electric tricycles, citing their cost-efficiency, low maintenance, and environmental impact compared to petrol-powered models. He noted that the removal of fuel subsidies has made traditional transportation costly and unsustainable for many riders, making the electric alternative a timely solution.

Also speaking at the event, product research analyst Miss Titilayo Arachi gave a detailed presentation on the operation and features of the new tricycles, while ACP Olabisi Kamor, Divisional Police Officer of Ifo, encouraged riders to ensure the security of their vehicles. He highlighted that the tricycles are equipped with tracking devices to help reduce the risk of theft.

The event drew a host of dignitaries including Vice Chairman Hon. Mary Ojo; Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Samuel Bamgboye; Secretary to the Local Government, Mrs. Temitope Adegboyega; Head of Local Government Administration, Mr. Fatai Ogundele; and other top government officials and stakeholders.

Also present were Dr. Ufort from Bristlecone THP; Ifo Area Commander ACP Seyi Williams; Chief Superintendent Akinwale Kehinde of the NSCDC; Alhaji Wasiu Adeniyi, Chairman of Riders and Owners of Tricycle Organizations (ROTO), Ifo Branch; Mr. Afolabi Wasiu, Chairman of the Tricycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (TORAN), Ifo Branch; and Mr. Abdulrahmon Sikirullah of the Three Wheelers Owners and Riders Association of Ogun State (TWORA), Ifo Branch, among others.

AWORI INTELLECTUALS' GETS FIRST FEMALE PRESIDENT

The Association of Awori Intellectuals' (AAI) has elected Princess Feyikemi Banuso Lawrence as its first female President. The announcement was made at the association's annual general meeting held on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at D C'Sars hotel in Ota.

Princess Lawrence expressed her satisfaction with her new role, stating that she has taken on the challenge to further reposition the group and Awori land as a whole. She aims to build on the association's decade-long efforts to redefine Awori land, particularly in the field of academics.

In addition to Princess Lawrence's election, Dr. Prince Saheed Adesunkanmi Oyede was elected as the first Vice President, while Hon. Jimoh Lukmon, also known as Ji Masun, was elected as the diaspora Vice President.

TRANSFORMER VANDAL GETS ELECTROCUTED, DIES IN AKUTE, OGUN

In an attempt to vandalize a transformer in the Akute area of Ogun State ended in tragedy on Friday morning, as an unidentified man was reportedly electrocuted while trying to steal electrical wires.

The incident occurred at around 7 am, in a community that has been plagued by repeated theft and damage to their power transformer. According to the Ogun State Police Command, the chairman of the Irewole community, Rasheed Ajagbe, reported the incident to the police station at 10:20 am.

Ajagbe stated that the community had been experiencing frequent theft and damage to their electrical wires, prompting him to inspect the transformer.

Upon arrival, Ajagbe and other community executives discovered the lifeless body of the unidentified individual, who had attempted to vandalize a wire and was subsequently electrocuted.

The police were immediately notified, and a team of detectives visited the scene to investigate and take photographs. The Ogun State Police Command's spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident in a statement.

Odutola added that the PHCN office was contacted, and the co**se was taken and deposited at the General Hospital Ifo mortuary for autopsy and preservation.

This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of vandalism and the importance of protecting public infrastructure. The community is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.

Again, Abule Ijoko, Ifo Road Graded, Awaits Full Reconstruction

The Abule Ijoko-Lemode road in the Ifo area underwent grading exercises today, Monday, December 23rd, signaling the Ogun State Government's commitment to reconstructing the long-dilapidated road.

This development follows the government's promise to rebuild the road, made during the commissioning of the Ojodu Abiodun-Denro-Isashi-Akute road sometimes this year November.

According to reports from Ogun Update page on Facebook said the Ogun State Government initiated palliative work on the Akute-Lambe-Okearo-Agbado road, with Abule Ijoko-Lemode road also benefiting from the grading exercise.

Notably, this is not the first time the road has undergone grading. A similar exercise was carried out on December 15, 2022, but it only resulted in the reconstruction of the section from Oja Ijoko down to Calvary International School closer to Cele corner bus stop.

However, the reconstruction did not extend to the Abule-Lemode road down to Agbado, leaving residents eagerly awaiting the completion of the project.The grading exercise today is seen as a preparatory step for the full reconstruction of the road.

Residents of Abule Ijoko-Lemode are hoping that this new development will mark the beginning of a sustained effort to complete the reconstruction project, which is expected to transform the road and improve the overall quality of life in the area.

OGUN STATE ASSEMBLY COMPLEX GETS FACELIFT

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has commissioned the newly renovated Ogun State House of Assembly Complex. The renovation marks the completion of a 45-year-old structure’s transformation, providing a modern and conducive working environment for lawmakers.

The renovation project was initiated to address the deteriorating condition of the complex, fulfilling a promise made by the governor during the 2024 budget presentation. The revamped complex now features modern facilities, including ensuite offices and reliable water supply for members.

The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, expressed appreciation for the renovation, highlighting the positive impact on the relationship between the Executive and Legislature. He commended Governor Abiodun for his commitment to providing a better working environment for lawmakers.

Honourable Idris Olamilekan Kushimo, the newly elected Chairman of Ifo Local Government, has flagged off the Insecticide-Treated Nets (ITN) distribution campaign across the local government area, as part of his administration's efforts to combat malaria and improve the overall health and wellbeing of the people, graced the commissioning of Ojodu Abiodun-Denro-Ishasi-Akute road recently.

The campaign, which was launched on November 19 and is scheduled to run until November 24, aims to provide long-lasting insecticide-treated nets to vulnerable households, especially pregnant women and children under five years old. This initiative is expected to significantly reduce the incidence of malaria in the area, which is a major public health concern. In a related development, Hon. The All Progressives Congress (APC) has recorded a landslide victory in the just concluded local government election, wins all chairmanship, and councillors positions in the 20 Local government areas, 236 wards in Ogun State, defeating its opposition parties, People's Democratic party, Labour Party, New Nigeria People's Party, others

In an announcement after the conduct of the elections, the Chairman of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), Babatunde Osibodu, declared the All Progressives Congress the winner of the Saturday Local Government elections in the state in the early hours of Sunday.

Osibodu said the “APC won all 20 local government seats and 236 councillorship wards in the state.” He announced this at the electoral body’s headquarters in Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, the state capital, while presenting the official results in a live broadcast.

Osibodu said, “A total of 613,156 votes were cast in the chairmanship elections across the 20 local government areas which saw participation from 19 political parties, including the Accord Party, African Action Congress, African Democratic Congress, Action Democratic Party, All Progressives Congress, Allied People’s Movement, All Progressives Grand Alliance, and Labour Party.

“Other parties included the Peoples Democratic Party, Social Democratic Party, Young Progressive Party, Action People’s Party, Action Alliance, Boot Party, People’s Redemption Party, National Rescue Movement, and the Zenith Labour Party.”- he added

In another reaction, opposition parties in Ogun State, including the NNPP, Labour Party, and PDP, have rejected the local government election results due to alleged irregularities and misconduct.

NNPP Chairman Femi Aina criticized the election's integrity, labeling it "chaotic" and demanding that the State House of Assembly summon OGSIEC officials to explain the issues. Aina highlighted several concerns, including voting with business cards, inadequate ballot papers, and late arrivals of OGSIEC officials.

Labour Party Chairman Lookman Jagun also rejected the results, calling the election a "shame" and urging OGSIEC to cancel it due to clear violations of Ogun State's electoral law. Jagun threatened to challenge the results in court if OGSIEC fails to take action.

Similarly, PDP Secretary Dr. Sunday Solarin described the election as a "shame" and accused APC thugs of attacking opposition party members. These allegations suggest widespread dissatisfaction with the election's conduct and outcome.

Ijoko-Lemode Residents Cast Votes Amid Delays

Despite initial delays, the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) elections finally took place in Ijoko-Lemode, Ifo Local Government Areas today, November 16, 2024, where residents cast their votes for the local government and councillor positions, exercising their democratic right to shape the future of their community.

Voting commenced around 2 pm, with residents choosing from various parties, including the All Progressive Party (APC), Labor Party (LP), and New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP). Despite the late start, officials ensured a peaceful process, urging voters to follow instructions and leave the center after casting their ballots.

Residents of Ijoko-Lemode, Abule, Ibaragun, Robiyan, Itoki, Ifo Local Government, are growing restless as they await the arrival of the Ogun State Electoral Committee (OGSIEC) Officials, for its chairmanship and councillors election slated today November 16th, 8am to 2pm.

The elections slated today November 16th across all 20 LGAs and 236 wards in Ogun State to choose new chairmen and councillors have left residents of Ijoko-Lemode, Itoki, Ibaragun, Robiyan, Ifo LG awaiting (OGSIEC) Officials, as of 11:45 am.

Residents said OGSIEC didn't keep to its electoral rules of commencing by 8am to 2pm, now is yet to arrive at the Ijoko-Lemode, Itoki, Ibaragun, Robiyan, Ifo Local Government polling units.

As the delay continues, residents are eager to exercise their right to vote and choose their new chairmen and councillors. The OGSIEC's absence has brought the electoral process to a standstill, leaving many wondering when the elections will finally commence.
