Two days ago, I had a heartwarming conversation with one of my Oga and he said "Uche, depending on what you want for yourself in life, but I'm of the opinion that anyone interested in growth, should buy a car first before building a house"
This statement sparked mixed feelings and reactions as I found it weird and entirely different from the norms we've been indoctrinated to believe, so I asked him more.
According to him, building a house should be a priority but should come after one must have cemented relationships, businesses, cash inflow and ready to relax a bit from the unending quest to acquire wealth. He narrated how mobility is one of the top priorities and adds a taste of class to one's personality and goals. He said, most people don't care to know where you came out from, they are so keen on how do you look, how did you come and what did you come with. These factors would help determine WHAT DO YOU WANT, and their assessment of these, either qualifies you or sends you into deep thoughts to ascertain why you didn't qualify to get the desired.
Hence, my Oga said, if you want to settle, you can go ahead to build a house first, but if you want to keep moving, growing and augmenting in various facets, please do well to buy a car, FIRST before building your own house. By buying a car, you must not buy a luxury vehicle, nor should you buy a semi-scrap vehicle.
You can disagree with him though.
