BREAKING NEWS: PDP FACTION TO RRSOLVE CRISES AS WIKE, BAUCHI STATE GOV HOLD TALKS

Gladiators in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership crisis have begun fresh moves to resolve the dispute that has divided the opposition party since November last year.

Sources within the party revealed that both camps reopened dialogue on Tuesday night in a renewed effort to restore unity ahead of the party’s planned national convention.

The development comes amid growing concerns that the prolonged leadership tussle could weaken the party ahead of future elections.

Investigations showed that the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) and the National Caretaker Committee (NCC) have commenced fresh reconciliation talks.

The Turaki-led NWC enjoys the backing of Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, while the caretaker committee is supported by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The crisis deepened after the PDP national convention held in Ibadan last November, where a new NWC led by Turaki was elected.

However, loyalists of Wike rejected the outcome and subsequently constituted a 13-member caretaker committee headed by Abdulrahman Mohammed to oversee the party pending another convention.

The leadership crisis was further complicated by judicial interventions.

On March 9, the Court of Appeal in Abuja nullified the Ibadan convention and upheld the earlier judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which had ordered the PDP not to proceed with the exercise.

Similarly, the Court of Appeal in Ibadan, while ruling on another appeal related to the caretaker committee, advised parties involved in the dispute to pursue an amicable settlement.

Following an expanded meeting of the party’s Board of Trustees, its Chairman Adolphus Wabara said party leaders were open to resolving the dispute outside the courts.

According to the Global Terrorism Index 2025 released by the Institute for Economics & Peace, Nigeria ranked fourth globally, with terror attacks rising by 43 percent, from 120 incidents in 2024 to 171 in 2025.

The report identified Boko Haram and ISWAP as the main drivers of violence, accounting for the majority of fatalities.

ISWAP Terrorists observing Eid Prayers in Borno

Hundreds of fighters from Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have been captured in a viral footage gathering in large numbers to observe Eid prayers in Borno State, openly brandishing assault rifles and other sophisticated weapons.

The development has sparked fresh concerns over insecurity in Nigeria’s North-East, as the insurgents were seen conducting prayers in what appeared to be an open field without fear of interruption.

Eid, a major Islamic festival observed after the holy month of Ramadan, is traditionally marked by peace, charity and communal worship.

However, the emergence of heavily armed insurgents participating in such a religious gathering has raised alarm among residents and security experts.

In multimedia clips released on Saturday by propaganda platform AZ-ZALLAQA, dozens of insurgents were seen lined up in formation, observing prayers while clutching AK-47 rifles and other high-grade weapons.

The footage showed the group occupying what appeared to be an Eid prayer ground in Borno, the epicentre of insurgency in Nigeria for over a decade.

BREAKING NEWS: TROOPS RECOVER NOTEBOOK DETAILING ROLES AND PLANS, WEAPON ALLOCATION FROM ISWAP

Following a devastating blow to Boko Haram terrorists in Borno, Nigerian troops have recovered notebooks from slain Islamic States of West African Province (ISWAP) fighters in Mallam Fatori, showing the group’s planning and organisation.

The documents list fighters mobilised for attacks, their roles, assigned weapons, and allocated ammunition.

According to security analyst and researcher Brant Philip in a social media post on Wednesday, similar practices have been observed in other Islamic State provinces, including Puntland in IS-Somal, indicating a structured approach to operations.

The notebooks are part of the evidence collected from areas where ISWAP has carried out attacks in northeastern Nigeria.

“Notebooks captured by Nigerian troops from slain ISWAP fighters in Mallam Fatori show the list of ISWAP militants mobilised for the attack, their roles, their weapons and their allocated ammunition,” he wrote.

“This level of organisation was also noted in Puntland in IS-Somal. The cardboard piece (first image) was discovered in an IS-Somal position; it shows the same thing and also includes the cameraman, who has allocated memory cards instead of ammunition.

“Islamic State provinces manage themselves like actual states (it’s in the name), they have their own police, military police, ministries and more, they’re not only an armed group, but they strive to become an alternate governing entity,” he revealed.

2027: Nigerian govt doesn’t want me to contest presidential election – Peter Obi

Former presidential candidate and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Peter Obi, has alleged that the Federal Government is working to prevent him from participating in the 2027 presidential election.

Obi made the allegation while calling for a transparent and credible electoral process.

Addressing a group of Nigerians in a video, Obi spoke about his political journey, reflecting on past challenges.

He noted that he has endured political isolation and legal battles.

“I have been in this very difficult business where people abandoned you completely for one election. I spent three years in court and no one followed me there.

“I have been impeached, returned to my village where no one wanted to see me, and removed from office twice,” he said.

He added that such experiences have prepared him for future challenges.

“So there is nothing I will not see again. All these things being said about me are not new,” he stated.

Obi further claimed that there are efforts by the Federal Government to stop his presidential ambition in 2027.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria does not want me to contest in the 2027 presidential election. We are not asking for much. They already have the governors and ministers; we are only asking for a free and fair election,” he said.

He also suggested that those in power have greater access to influential networks.

“They have all the contacts. They know the queen and the king, while we do not. They have everything,” he added.

‘No Retreat, No Surrender’ – Malami Breaks Silence After Release From Custody, Hails Atiku, Obi

Former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, has expressed gratitude to his family, political allies, and supporters following his release from custody over alleged corruption-related charges.

Malami, alongside his wife, Bashir Asabe, and son, Abdulaziz, is facing a 16-count charge bordering on alleged money laundering filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The former minister, who pleaded not guilty to the charges, was initially remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre before being rearrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) on January 19 shortly after his release.

He had earlier accused the DSS of denying him access to his family and legal team while in custody.

On February 27, a Federal High Court in Abuja granted Malami and his son bail in the sum of ₦200 million each over alleged terrorism-related offences.

‘Difficult Period’ — Malami

In a message issued through his media aide, Mohammed Doka, and shared on his page, Malami described his ordeal as a “difficult period.”

“I extend my profound and heartfelt gratitude to my family, friends, political associates, and countless well-meaning Nigerians who stood firm with me,” he said.

He noted that their support helped him withstand what he described as “media trials, sensational narratives, and prejudgment.”

Malami also acknowledged several prominent political figures for their support, including former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar; ex-Kaduna governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai; former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Former Nigerian Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has released a startling series of allegations against the former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, regarding a historical plot to destroy Africa Independent Television.

In a detailed statement issued on Sunday, March 15, 2026, Fani-Kayode corroborated claims made by publisher Jackson Ude concerning El-Rufai’s tenure as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

The former minister alleged that El-Rufai did not merely seek to revoke the land titles of the broadcast station but actively moved to illegally confiscate its property and demolish structures in defiance of valid court orders.

Most significantly, Fani-Kayode claimed that after being instructed to cease harassment of the late Raymond Dokpesi, El-Rufai allegedly hatched a plan to burn the entire AIT facility to the ground, intended to be disguised as an electrical fault.

According to the statement, this extreme measure was only averted through the intervention of several high-ranking insiders within the Olusegun Obasanjo administration, including the Chief of Staff and the then-Chairman of the EFCC.

Fani-Kayode wrote, "Worse amongst them is the fact that, after Nasir was directed to desist from harrassing Dokpesi & AIT, he resorted to planning to burn the whole place down!"

A former Super Eagles midfielder Henry Nwosu has died, aged 62.

The death of the Imo State-born midfielder was announced on Saturday morning by former teammate and 1980 Africa Cup of Nations winner Segun Odegbami on his media platforms.

“Henry Nwosu passes on!,

“After five days in hospital battling for his life, the one I call ‘Youngest Millionaire’ passed on at 4:00 am this morning at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos, where he had been in intensive care since Wednesday.

“It is with deep pain in my heart that I have to be the conveyor of the news of the death of Henry Nwosu MON. May he rest peacefully with our Creator in Heaven,” Odegbami wrote.

Nwosu, who was the youngest member of the 1980 AFCON squad, was widely celebrated for his role in Nigeria’s triumph at the Africa Cup of Nations, where the Green Eagles secured their first continental title on home soil.

The midfielder was known for his vision, creativity and technical ability, and went on to become a prominent figure in Nigerian domestic football.

Following his retirement from active football, the former international remained connected to the sport as a coach and mentor, helping to nurture younger players.

Nwosu’s death comes days after Nigerian football lost another iconic figure. Former Super Eagles coach Adegboye Onigbinde, who led Nigeria to the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Japan and South Korea, died on March 9 at the age of 88.

Both Nwosu and Onigbinde were prominent members of the Green Eagles set-up of the 1980s, with Onigbinde having served as coach of the side between 1982 and 1984.

President Bola Tinubu has decorated Tunji Disu with his new rank as the acting Inspector-General of Police at the State House, Abuja.

DAILY POST reports that the ceremony took place at 4pm at the President’s office.

Present at the ceremony were the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and the immediate past IGP, Kayode Egbetokun.

Disu’s appointment came just 48 days before his scheduled retirement on April 13, 2026, when he would have reached the mandatory retirement age of 60 years.

However, under the amended Police Act, which allows Inspectors-General of Police to serve a four-year tenure regardless of age, Disu may remain in office until 2030.

Tinubu, who pinned the new insignia on Disu’s uniform, commended the outgoing IGP Egbetokun for his service to the nation.

The ceremony comes barely 24 hours after Egbetokun submitted his resignation letter to the President on Tuesday, citing family issues that require his undivided attention.
