NAMIBIA-a country of uniqueness.

Namibia just elected its first female President in the person of Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, who is 72 years old.

The country is a large and sparsely populated country on Africa's south-west coast.

The Namib desert which borders the Atlantic Ocean is the oldest desert in the world.

The desert borders theAtlantic Ocean. The name of the country is derived from the name of the Namib desert.

The capital, Windhoek contain German styled colonial-era buildings that date back to the period of German colonization.

Namibia is one of the least populated countries in the world. It has a population of 3,056,990. This ranks the country as the 139th in the world by population.

It has a total land area of 823,290 square kilometers. This means the country's population density is 3.21 people per square kilometer.

Germany took control of the area which it called South West Africa in the late 1800s.

South Africa seized it during the First World War and administered it under a League of Nations mandate.

Namibia gained its independence from South Africa on 21st of March 1990 after a 25 years long and bloody struggle against South African rule.

This makes Namibia one of the youngest countries in Africa.

The Inter-racial reconciliation encouraged the country's white people to remain and they still play a major role in farming and other economic sectors.

The country has a high rate of evaporation. This makes it the hottest country in sub Saharan Africa.

Namibia is the Cheetah capital of the world with a third of the number of Cheetahs in the world being found in Namibia.

Mary Mother of Jesus Mosque, Abu Dubai

In the United Arab Emirates (UAE), a predominantly Muslim country, there exists a Mosque dedicated to Mary the mother of Jesus Christ.

In Arabic, it is called Maryam Umm Eisa Masjid or Mary the mother of Jesus Mosque.

The mosque is located in Al Mushrif, a central neighborhood in the city of Abu Dhabi, the capital city of the United Arab Emirates.

Naming the mosque after Mary shows her importance as a revered mother in both Islam and Christianity.

The Mosque was built in 1989 and named after Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler of Abu Dhabi.

On Wednesday 14 June 2017, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan renamed the mosque as "Mary, Mother of Jesus Mosque".

The change was done as an initiative exemplifying the values of co-existence among religions in the UAE.

Habib Raji Abdallah

You may ask:
Who was Habib Raji Abdallah usually shortened as HR Abdallah in most literatures.

Habib Raji Abdallah (1920-1982) was an Ebira man. He was born in 1920 at No. 15A, Otutu Quarters, Okene Local Government of Kogi State, Nigeria.

He was among the first set of pioneering nationalist from the Northern region of Nigeria.
who was part of the struggle for Nigerian Independence.

His father worked as a messenger with the colonial authorities at Lokoja before he became a judge of the Ebira Native Authority.

Abdallah was privileged to have attended primary school within the Palace of the late Ibrahim Onoruoiza, the Atta of Ebira Land.

Thereafter, he attended Bida Middle School and then Katsina Training College.

His working experience started in 1936 as an announcer for The Post and Telegraph department in Lagos.

When radio service began in Lagos, Abdallah transferred his services as a radio announcer to the new department.

It was at this post that he became familiar with the nationalist writings of Nnamdi Azikiwe who had just begun publishing his West African Pilot.

In 1940, he was transferred to Kano to work at the Northern region radio rediffusion broadcasting service.

His familiarity with Azikiwe's writings especially on discrimination emboldened him to create discussions and popularize nationalism in Northern Nigeria.

In 1946, he co-founded the Northern Elements Progressive Association (NEPA), an organization with close links to the National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons (NCNC).

Through NEPA, he sought to raise consciousness about nationalism in the northern part of Nigeria. He attempted this through public lectures and letters to prominent traditional authorities.

He also organized the Kano branch of the Zikist Movement. He was General Secretary of the Northern Elements Progressive Association and was President of the Zikist Movement.

Abdallah played critical role in the Zikist Movement by keeping the group together as a result of ethnic division among members.

As a newly appointed president of the Zik Movement, he presented a speech entitled "What is Zikism?". The speech emphasized the belief of the movement in freedom from domination and equality.

When this became known to his supervisor, Abdallah was issued a query for engaging in politics.

His response to the query was defiant and unsatisfactory to his supervisor.

Abdallah was later dismissed from his position as wireless coordinator and announcer at Kano Rediffusion Service when his membership of NEPA and Zikist Movement.

This was because his supervisor believed that his membership of these associations was in violation of the code of conduct of civil servants.

After leaving the colonial service, Abdallah became more active in the Zikist Movement, organizing public lectures and debates about colonialism.

He was tried and convicted for sedition in 1949. Upon his release, he joined NCNC but later left the party in 1955.

After serving his two years prison sentence, he retired to Lagos. After the Ebira political crises of 1951, HR Abdallah relocated to Ebiraland to reorganize the polity of his home town.

He felt pained from regional politics that have taken precedence over national politics. This caused him to loose interest in national politics until his death on 5th December 1982 after a prolonged illness.

This illness is traceable to the regionalization of nationalistic struggles which was not in tandem with his beliefs.

May his soul continue to rest in perfect peace. Ameena

HR Abdallah was the very first Nigerian to declare himself unilaterally free of British rule on November 7, 1948 at the Glover Memorial hall in Lagos in the course of his speech.

Thus, it is rather ironic that Independent Nigeria has forgotten the heroic role of HR Abdallah and not to accord him the right place in the history of Nigerian Nationalism.

Habib Raji Abdallah is gone but the his spirit lives on as it cries for remembrance of his dedication to Nigerian nationalism and eventual independence.
