ADDRESS BY PRINCESS OMONIYI ALICE (GCFNS MBABS)
NATIONAL PRESIDENT, PROGRESSIVE STUDENT FORUM (PSF)
ON THE OCCASION OF NIGERIA’S DEMOCRACY DAY CELEBRATION
June 12, 2026
Today we celebrate Democracy Day — a day that reminds us of the power of the people’s voice, the rule of law, and the importance of participation. As students, democracy is not just about voting. It is about responsibility, respect for one another, and building a better future together.
As National President of the Progressive Student Forum, I call on all students to:
1. Value education*: Democracy grows where minds are educated. Let us take our studies seriously because knowledge is the foundation of good leadership.
2. Practice tolerance and dialogue*: In a democracy, we will not always agree. But we must learn to listen, discuss issue peacefully, and respect different opinions.
3. Be active citizens*: From our classrooms to our communities, let us stand against corruption, fight for fairness, and serve with integrity. The Nigeria we want starts with us.
Our democracy is still young, and it needs young people who are bold, honest, and committed. As students, we are the leaders of tomorrow. Let us start leading today by being disciplined, patriotic, and united.
On behalf of the Progressive Student Forum, I congratulate all Nigerians on this day. May our democracy continue to grow stronger.
Thank you, and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Princess Omoniyi Alice (GCFNS, MBABS)
National President
Progressive Student Forum (PSF).
