PORTRAITS OF COUNTERFEIT CHRISTIANITY

2. BEING GOVERNED BY NATURAL AND UNGODLY APPETITES

Paul the apostle says,

“Now every athlete who goes into training conducts himself temperately and restricts himself in all things. They do it to win a wreath that will soon wither, but we (do it to receive a crown of eternal blessedness) that cannot wither. Therefore I do not run uncertainly (without definite aim). I do not box like one beating the air and striking an adversary. But (like a boxer), I buffet my body (handle it roughly ,discipline it by hardships) and subdue it, for fear that after proclaiming to others the Gospel and things pertaining to it, I myself should become unfit (not stand the test, be unapproved and rejected as a COUNTERFEIT)” (1 Cor 9:25-27 AMP, emphasis added).

Jesus began His ministry after a forty-day fast and the first temptation the devil brought His way according to Matthew’s gospel was related to His need and appetite. Jesus overcame and this remains a lesson for anyone who would go far with God.

In the kingdom, it is expected that we grow to the point of ruling over our natural appetites and proclivities by the power of God; a point where our passions and desires are fine-tuned and refocused so that nothing mundane or external can remote-control them.

When we talk kingdom, we are talking tariff, territory and influence. What influences the territory of your life? What governs your universe? Who do you spend your resources on?

The cost of discipleship is suffering. The high point of discipleship is when you meet the King. Like we have established so far, it is possible for you to be born again without ever meeting the King who is supposed to dictate the pace and outcome of your life. This means anything at all that tickles your fancy can determine how you act at any given time and place.

The spirit realm is a legalistic one. Spirits (whether demons or angels) operate by the principle of law and order —demons are against, while angels are for, law and order. So, when you see demons moving in full swing and having a field day in a believer’s space, you can be sure the principle of law and order has been violated by the believer.

This is why certain demons would simply not stop unleashing torment on some believers not because the name of Christ is not powerful enough, but because they have a legal ground of the believers’ rebellion to act. Deliverance for these ones can only come when they fall back to order. This is because if they do not bow down to Jehovah the king, another authority would most definitely lay claim to their souls and determine seasons in their destinies.

A person who is under a shade suddenly decides to go outside it for sight-seeing. The rain catches up with them and begins to lash on them mercilessly. What should they do to escape further whipping? Simple, they should go right back to the shade. It was this realization that took the prodigal son back to his father.

Anywhere God does not rule He overrules. Yet, He does not struggle. That’s why if there is anything contesting for His place in a believer’s life, He simply gives way. He is a gentle King.

MUSING ALOUD 22

…The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God…(Galatians 2:20,NIV)

…so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power… (1 Corinthians 2:5, NIV)

… Christ is the power of God (1 Corinthians 1:24, NLT)

For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 3:11, NIV )

Christiantity is exclusively powered by faith in Jesus Christ, period!

All teaching, preaching and prophesying must reinforce the believer’s faith in Jesus Christ, and in Him alone! The Christian faith is not open-ended, is neatly sealed, end to end, by Jesus Christ —it’s why He is the pioneer and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2); from start to finish and everything else in between.

Sound concepts, solid agendas, innovative systems, powerful principles and useful resources cannot replace faith in the Son of God in the believer’s pilgrimage on this side of eternity.

It’s simple: Christ as the foundation endues the believer with the capacity and capability to run the race, finish their course and be gallantly eligible for the crown of glory. And if Christ was not the foundation of a believer’s faith, theirs shall surely be a time bomb of doom, they shall blow to pieces within the quarters of apostasy.

Christ is the only faith foundation that is impervious to all the shocks of this age. Anywhere you see so-called believers cheaply departing from the faith, it is almost certain that Christ was never their foundation in the first place.

In three days, we shall consider this and more in great detail as the Lord gives us utterance in Houston, Texas, at the premier RCN USA APOSTOLIC INVASION, themed MARCHING ORDERS.

Do well to join us onsite and online!

PORTRAITS OF COUNTERFEIT CHRISTIANITY (CONTINUED)

2. BEING GOVERNED BY NATURAL AND UNGODLY APPETITES

Such type of Christianity promotes indulgence as against restraint. Here, people act like wild beasts and the right atmosphere is continually created to play host to their untamed appetites. They cannot behave normally anytime hunger or thirst exerts pressure on them. They live by the drive of their instincts instead of the leadership of the Holy Spirit. They lose their identity anytime a need arises or an opportunity presents itself for them to soil their royal oath.

They don’t care how they fare before God and do not sufficiently weigh the consequences of their decisions as long as they can gratify their ephemeral desires. These folks are called ravening wolves–once hungry, nothing else matters, but their need for meat (Matthew 7:15).

For instance, they won’t adjust to the ups and downs of the Christian race. Anytime they are down, they subscribe to short cuts, cutting as many corners as possible to remain afloat. They won’t stand the rigors of spiritual discipline. They always have a way of accepting the truths of God’s revealed word selectively.

Even the great God-King cannot lay the weight of kingdom responsibility on their comfort. Why? They are too fragile to be inconvenienced. However, no serious minded man or woman can amount to anything in the kingdom if they do not learn to imbibe the discipline of the spirit.

Bastards in the Old Testament were those without fathers. In the New Testament, bastards are those without discipline. The Bible says,
“And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says, “My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.”Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father? If you are not disciplined—and everyone undergoes discipline—then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all.”

(Hebrews 12:5-8, NIV)

PORTRAITS OF COUNTERFEIT CHRISTIANITY 1

To live above the unfortunate plague of our day, we need to imbibe the ways of the Spirit so that we can develop basic discernment that would help us differentiate the real from the fake and the original from the counterfeit. The word of righteousness, quickened by the Spirit of truth, will help us through this (Hebrews 5:13-14). We, therefore, shall consider the portraits of counterfeit Christianity which is an impotent brand of Christianity. And from such may the Lord deliver us.

1. KINGLESS EXISTENCE

Kingless existence or kinglessness is the first portrait of counterfeit Christianity. Such brand of Christianity pledges allegiance to everyone and everything except Christ. Therefore, it can deny God in the face of storms and would bend under pressure. As Christians, we are beneficiaries of the grace that produces salvation. More so, our existence is supposed to be traceable to the lordship of Christ.

Our primary call is first to see to it that God’s will for our lives is done no matter the cost. This should be held close to our hearts as a matter of priority. A kingless Christian knows God as the fountain of life, but doesn’t understand that the same God is also King. As such, they do not know what it means to operate by God’s standards and be regulated by His government. A kingless preacher could preach anything; his audience might become anything apart from Christ.

“Anythingness” is a virus constructed and unleashed by Satan to beguile Christians and subtly keep them under his rule. There is no vacuum in the realm of the spirit. Any Christian who is not directly under God’s rule in practice will be under Satan’s rule in principle. That’s why it is possible to be a Christian and still remain a potent tool in the devil’s hand. “Anythingness” is, thus, of the devil in whatever fashion it appears. A Christian who is directly under God’s rule in practice cannot just be anything or do anything they want.

FOUR WAYS TO SHUT DOWN DEMONIC OPEN DOORS (III)

3. Deliberately choosing to accept God’s will in all situations

The resolve to accept God’s will irrespective of the prevailing circumstance makes it impossible for demons to manipulate our will.

When we come to the point where our loyalty and faithfulness to God are not tethered to external circumstances, we gain stature with God and rubbish demonic onslaughts.

One proof that we have built stature with God is the capacity for placidity that the Holy Spirit furnishes in us.

This makes us shock-proof and impervious to demonic devices. When Job’s wife ranted and threw bitter tantrums at him and asked him to curse God and die, his reply to her was,

"You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversity?" (Job 2:10, NKJV)

From this verse, it is immediately obvious that Job’s threshold was superhuman, it was supernatural. For a man to go through what Job went through and refuse to curse God even when this suggestion was brought forth by his wife means he definitely had something working on his inside that was beyond the natural.

This was the same resolve that Shedrach, Meshach and Abed-nego had against bowing to the image of gold raised by Nebuchadnezzar. This was the same resolve that made our Lord and Master Jesus Christ stay the course through all the pain and humiliation.

This was the same resolve that made the apostles take the gospel to the ends of the then known world. This is why Paul says,

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, NKJV)

Again such a resolve to be faithful to God no matter the unpleasantness around us is underpinned by praying without ceasing.

Our faith is not atmospheric; it is built on the Solid Rock, Jesus Christ! If we choose to remain unmoved by the circumstances around us, we give the devil no space in our live
