My name is Liam, and I buy dead people's stories.

Looking back, I should have never brought home that tape from 1994. ⚠️

I own a small antique shop tucked away in a fog-covered town in Oregon. 🌫️ Most people collect furniture or old photographs. Me? I collect forgotten histories—the belongings left behind by people who are no longer here. ☠️

A month ago, I attended an estate sale at an abandoned farmhouse on the edge of town. 🏚️

The place had a reputation.

An entire family had disappeared there in 1994. 👻 No bodies. No explanation. One day they were there, the next they were gone.

Most buyers stayed upstairs.

I didn't.

I wandered into the basement. 🚪⬇️

Buried beneath decades of dust, I found an old reel-to-reel tape recorder. 📼

The auctioneer practically shoved it into my hands for twenty bucks.

"Take it," he said.

"I don't want that thing around anymore." 😨

That night, rain hammered against the windows of my shop. 🌧️

Tap.

Tap.

Tap.

The building was empty except for me.

I cleaned the recorder, plugged it in, and pressed PLAY.

▶️

Clunk.

The reels began turning.

For nearly thirty seconds, there was nothing but static.

Then I heard a child laughing.

"Daddy..." she whispered.

"The man in the wall is playing the skin game again."

My blood ran cold. ❄️

The night-shift nurse heard the footfalls from the abandoned hospital wing sealed off for more than 15 years after a mysterious fire had claimed the lives of all its patients. It was 2:13 AM sharp. Security cameras always went out near Room 306…except tonight.

She walked down the hallway, and the lights behind her started flickering one by one. At the far end stood a pale woman in a burned hospital gown, motionless and grinning unnaturally. The nurse lifted her phone to snap a picture.

The next morning she was gone.
There was only the picture.
