Hypertension is the leading cause of kidney failure globally.

In order to stay healthy, the kidneys and the blood circulation system depend solely on each other. The kidneys need a lot blood to carry out their functions properly.

When the blood pressure is high, it causes the blood vessels in the kidneys to constrict and narrow which leads to decrease in renal blood flow and damage to the filtering units ( Nephrons ) due to insufficient oxygen and nutrients supply. As a result, the kidneys find it difficult to perform their regulatory functions leading to kidney damage and possibly Kidney Failure.

NAFDAC has notified the public few days ago of the recall of CARO WHITE skin lightening beauty lotion by the European Union (EU) Rapid Alert System for Dangerous Non-food Product (RAPEX).

The product is said to contain high concentration of Kojic Acid above allowable maximum concentration of 1%.

Apart from skin Dermatitis,irritation, rash, and pain associated with abuse of Kojic Acid, Excessive use and absorption into the body may cause skin cancer and possibly NEPROTOXICITY (toxicity in the kidneys)
