*Ogbaru Local Government Secretariat:* A Symbol of Neglect and an Eyesore to behold.
In the words of the great Walter Rodney: _“Many parts of the world that are naturally rich are actually poor, while parts with fewer natural advantages enjoy the highest standards of living.”_
Sadly, this reflects the current state of Ogbaru Local Government Area, a land richly blessed by nature, yet trapped in a cycle of underdevelopment.
Recall that on August 30, 2024, the Ogbaru Local Government Secretariat was attacked by unidentified individuals. In that unfortunate incident, critical infrastructure, office buildings, and vehicles were vandalized & destroyed. Since then, nearly a year now, the secretariat remains in ruins.
Even more disturbing is the fact that *scraps* from the damaged buildings are reportedly being sold off by local government authorities. Just a few days ago, three truckloads of these scraps were seen being moved and sold.
What has happened to Ogbaru’s priorities?
Since the last local government election, there has been no single significant infrastructural development across Ogbaru. Meanwhile, the local government has received *ten months of federal allocations* and *internally generated revenue (IGR)* . Yet, the people have seen nothing to show for it.
So, we ask:
Where is the money going?
Who controls Ogbaru's allocations and IGR?
Are these public funds being shared privately?
And who are the people benefitting from the sharing?
These are not just rhetorical questions rather these are the realities confronting us. Ndị Ogbaru must rise and demand answers. Our silence only fuels the cycle of mismanagement and decay.
