FG UNVEILS 10-YEAR AGRIFOOD STRATEGY TO STRENGTHEN FOOD SECURITY

The Federal Government has unveiled a 10-Year Agrifood System Strategy and Action Plan, a long-term roadmap designed to transform Nigeria's agricultural sector and strengthen national food security. The strategy will be presented to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for approval.

According to the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, the initiative follows a directive from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to develop a practical, bankable, and implementable framework capable of driving sustainable growth across Nigeria's agrifood system.

The strategy seeks to increase agricultural productivity, improve food availability, strengthen value chains, attract investment, create jobs, and build a more resilient food system. It also aligns Nigeria's agricultural agenda with the African Union's Kampala Declaration (2026–2035) on agrifood transformation.

The plan was developed through consultations with stakeholders across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones and is expected to guide agricultural policies and investments over the next decade once approved by the FEC.

CBN Retains Interest Rate at 26.5% to Sustain Economic Stability

Cardoso explained that although Nigeria has witnessed gradual improvements in key macroeconomic indicators, the MPC considered prevailing geopolitical tensions and uncertainties in the global economy capable of triggering fresh inflationary pressures. He noted that retaining the current rate would allow previous monetary policy measures to continue producing the desired impact while sustaining investor confidence.
