Conservative Activist Charlie Kirk Fatally Shot at Utah Valley University Event
Conservative commentator and activist Charlie Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot on Tuesday, September 10, during a campus event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.
According to officials, gunfire erupted shortly after noon while Kirk was addressing students as part of his “American Comeback Tour.” A bullet, reportedly fired from a nearby building, struck the 31-year-old activist. Emergency responders rushed him to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The attack has been described by law enforcement as a targeted act, and an investigation into the suspected shooter is ongoing. Authorities have not yet released details about the suspect or motive.
Former President Donald Trump confirmed Kirk’s death on his Truth Social account, calling him “a great and legendary patriot” and ordering flags to be flown at half-staff.
The shooting has drawn widespread condemnation across the political spectrum, with leaders expressing shock and mourning Kirk’s death.
Kirk rose to national prominence after co-founding Turning Point USA in 2012, an organization that mobilized conservative students on college campuses across the United States. He was a prominent ally of Trump and a frequent critic of liberal policies.
Utah Valley University officials said they are cooperating fully with law enforcement and have increased security on campus.
