Huddersfield Town beat Manchester United for
the first time in 65 years to end their unbeaten
start to the season and drop Jose Mourinho's
side five points behind league leaders
Manchester City at the John Smith's Stadium.
United had only conceded twice in their eight
league games this season, but that tally was
doubled in five first-half minutes following two
sloppy mistakes that were clinically punished.
Juan Mata gave the ball away to Aaron Mooy in
midfield and after he fed Tom Ince, whose shot
was saved by David de Gea, the Australian was
first to the rebound to sweep home from 10
yards.
Then Swedish defender Victor Lindelof - on as a
substitute for the injured Phil Jones and making
just his second Premier League appearance -
misjudged a goal kick by Jonas Lossl and
Laurent Depoitre raced onto the loose ball to
round De Gea and double the Terriers' lead.
Mourinho made a double substitution at half-
time, bringing on Marcus Rashford and Henrikh
Mkhitaryan, and the former gave United hope
with 12 minutes remaining when he nodded in a
terrific cross from the otherwise quiet Romelu
Lukaku.
But despite a nervy finale and with United
enjoying almost 80% of possession, the Terriers
clung on to record their first league win against
United since 1952 and end a run of six league
games without a victory.
With City beating Burnley 3-0, second-placed
United lost ground on their neighbours and title
rivals.

Liverpool versus Manchester United again failed to live up to the hype as Jose Mourinho's safety-first policy saw him once more frustrate the hosts at Anfield, writes Carl Markham.
United goalkeeper David de Gea made one brilliant reaction save from Joel Matip in the first half but Jurgen Klopp's side failed to break down well-organised opponents.
It is a criticism which has been regularly levelled at the Reds this season but was perhaps excusable on this occasion considering the rivalry and the quality - United began the day joint top - they faced.
While United were not as dour as in last season's game here, there was no doubt Mourinho had reined in the attacking intent of a side which had previously scored 33 goals in 11 matches.

Manchester United are in Southampton.
Jose Mourinho and his side flew to the south coast on Friday ahead of the Premier League fixture and are targeting three points to keep pace with Manchester City at the top of a competitive Premier League table.
A 20 man United squad travelled to Southampton but Luke Shaw and Victor Lindelof did not and do not make the teamsheet.
Speaking about Shaw in his press conference, Mourinho said: "He has to work. Just that. You saw the game. You saw the same as I see.
“Are you asking if he plays against Southampton? No, he isn’t. He has to work. He has to improve.
“Look, he doesn’t play for six months. I’m not expecting him to arrive on Wednesday (against Burton Albion) and be man of the match or to be running up and down for 45 minutes. It’s a process."

Manchester United 4-1 Burton Albion: Marcus Rashford at the double as Jose Mourinho's side hit four again to ease into Carabao Cup fourth round
Marcus Rashford scored twice as holders Manchester United overpowered Burton Albion at Old Trafford to reach the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
Championship Burton made nine changes and fell 1-0 down when Rashford dinked the ball over keeper Connor Ripley.
England forward Rashford made it 2-0 with a 20-yard finish before Jesse Lingard's deflected shot found the net.
Anthony Martial added the fourth from a Rashford assist, Lloyd Dyer scoring a stoppage-time consolation.

It was a story of three goals and three points for Manchester United on Tuesday evening, as the Reds comfortably saw off FC Basel in the UEFA Champions League.
Jose Mourinho's side have already scored an impressive 15 goals in just five games across all competitions this season, and now sit top of Group A after beating the Swiss champions at Old Trafford.
Marouane Fellaini came off the bench in the first half to replace the injured Paul Pogba and opened the scoring with a powerful header, which was only part of his Man of the Match performance.
It was also a particularly special night for Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford, both of whom found the net on their Champions League debuts with second-half strikes.

Maxim Choupo-Moting's double ended Manchester United's winning start to the Premier League as Stoke emerged with a creditable draw against Jose Mourinho's men.
Three wins, 10 goals and a hat-trick of clean sheets had given the Old Trafford giants a strong start to the season, yet City boss Mark Hughes spoke of weaknesses in his former club's armoury ahead of Saturday evening's encounter.
