"I acted on behalf of President Bola Tinubu"- Ibas tells Rivers Assembly
The immediate past Administrator of Rivers State, Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), has dismissed plans by the Rivers State House of Assembly to probe how his administration spent about N297b during his six-month tenure.
Ibas, who left office on September 17 following the end of emergency rule in the state, said the lawmakers had no powers to investigate him since they did not appoint him as administrator.
The Rivers Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, had resolved at its first plenary after resumption to examine government spending during the emergency period. Findings show Rivers received at least N254.37b from the Federation Account Allocation Committee between March and August 2025, with oil derivation accounting for over half of the funds.
Reacting through his media aide, Hector Igbikiowubu, Ibas argued that he acted on behalf of President Bola Tinubu and under the supervision of the National Assembly.
“If you didn’t appoint the administrator, it goes to reason you have certain limitations,” he said, describing the lawmakers’ planned probe as “a f++l’s errand.”
