**The Mystery of the Stranger**

The people of Abi stood in silence long after the stranger disappeared into the morning mist.

No footprints.

No sound.

Only the cold wind blowing through the ancient trees.

The village elders searched everywhere, but it was as if the man had never existed.

That night, Helen could not sleep.

Just before dawn, she had a strange dream.

An old man dressed completely in white appeared before her.

"My daughter," he said gently, "the man you saw was no ordinary human. He is **Edu Egbe **, the last Guardian of the Ancient Covenant of Abi. Many years ago, he disappeared from the land after swearing to protect the kingdom until the day the chosen child came of age."

Helen woke up trembling.

Could this explain the mysterious powers she had carried since childhood?

The next morning, she went to meet the oldest woman in the kingdom—Mama Ekama who was nearly one hundred years old.

The old woman smiled the moment she saw Helen.

"I have waited many years for this day," she whispered.

"No, Helen... you are **not** a native doctor."

"You were born under the blessing of the ancestors and the prayers of righteous people. Your gift is not for evil or magic. It is a gift of wisdom, courage, and protection. One day, you will unite the people of Abi when darkness rises."

Helen sighed with relief.

"But why did the stranger say my marriage would bring danger?" she asked.

Mama Ekama looked toward the hills.

"Because many men will desire your beauty, but only **one** is worthy of your heart."

"He will not be the richest."

"He will not be the strongest."

"He will be the man who loves justice more than power, who fears God, respects the people, and is willing to lay down his life for Abi."

"But before that wedding day comes..."

"...the hidden enemy who has been waiting for generations will finally reveal himself."

Far away, inside a dark cave beneath the sacred mountain, a pair of glowing eyes slowly opened.

A deep voice echoed through the darkness.

"So... the child of prophecy has finally grown."

"The time has come."

**The village is not for lazy people.** 👎😳🙄

You must be ready to work hard, or you won't survive here. Otherwise, you'll end up buying almost everything instead of producing your own.

I live in the village, and I choose to work hard. 🤣😍💪🌾

If you appreciate hardworking village people, drop me some flowers in the comments 🌸🥰❤️

**"If you didn't grow up in my village, you may never understand why owning a canoe was almost as important as owning a farm."** 🌧️🚣🏾‍♀️

Every rainy season came with mixed feelings. We prayed for rain because our crops needed it, but too much rain meant trouble.

When the rivers overflowed, floodwater would rush into our farms, carrying away cassava stems, yams, cocoyam, vegetables, and anything not firmly rooted. The only way to rescue what we could was by paddling a canoe into the flooded farmland.

Not every family owned a canoe. Those who didn't had to borrow or hire one from their neighbours. There was no cash payment most of the time. Instead, after harvest, they would repay with farm produce—bags of cassava, bunches of plantain, cocoyam, or baskets of maize. That was our village economy: helping one another survive.

As children, we thought it was an adventure, paddling through water that had swallowed our footpaths. But the adults knew the truth—they were racing against the flood to save months of hard work.

Looking back now, I smile at those memories. Life in the village taught us resilience, unity, and the value of sharing what we had.

# # # *The Secret of Helen's Birth*

The stranger slowly stood up. The entire palace fell silent.

Even the birds that had been singing around the palace seemed to stop.

He looked straight at the king and said,

> "The child you call Helen is not an ordinary child. Her birth was written in the ancient prophecy of Abi long before any of you were born."

The elders exchanged worried glances.

The oldest priest shouted,

> "Impossible! There has never been such a prophecy!"

The stranger smiled.

"There was... but your forefathers hid it because they feared its power."

He pulled out an old animal skin wrapped in red cloth. It was covered with ancient symbols that only the oldest historian in Abi could read.

The old historian stepped forward. His hands trembled as he read aloud.

> "A daughter shall be born under the dancing stars. She shall possess the strength of ten warriors, the wisdom of the elders, and the heart of a mother. No man shall defeat her, and through her, the kingdom shall either rise to greatness or fall into ruin."

The crowd gasped.

The queen's eyes filled with tears.

"But... who is her father?" she whispered.

The stranger turned toward Helen.

"The man who raised Helen is a good father... but he is not the one whose blood flows through her veins."

The palace became silent.

The stranger continued,

"Many years ago, before Helen was born, a mysterious warrior from the sacred hills saved the kingdom during a secret battle that no one speaks about today. Before he disappeared, he was blessed by the ancestors."

"He was not an ordinary man. He carried the bloodline of the First Guardian of Abi."

The king staggered backwards.

"You mean..."

"Yes."

"Helen is the last descendant of the First Guardian."

The entire kingdom fell to their knees.

The stranger looked at Helen.

"That is why no man has been able to defeat you. That is why wild animals never attack you. That is why children stop crying when you carry them. The ancestors themselves walk beside you."

Helen remained silent.

After a long pause, she asked,

"If all this is true... will I ever get married?"

The stranger sighed.

"You will marry... but not because a man defeats you."

"The man who becomes your husband will be the only one brave enough to stand beside you instead of trying to stand above you."

"He will not win your heart through strength, but through wisdom, humility, and sacrifice."

The crowd murmured.

"But beware..."

"The day Helen chooses her husband, a great enemy long hidden in the shadows will rise against the kingdom of Abi."

The stranger turned and began walking away.

Before anyone could stop him, he vanished into the thick morning mist as if he had never been there.

Everyone stood frozen.

Only one question remained in every heart...

**Who was the mysterious stranger?**
