THE LAST PLATE OF RICE
Every night, little Daniel waited for his mother to come home.
She worked as a cleaner in a big restaurant, and most nights, she returned when everyone else was already asleep.
One evening, Daniel sat beside the empty dining table with only one plate of rice in front of him.
When his mother finally arrived, she looked exhausted.
“Have you eaten?” she asked.
Daniel smiled. “Yes, Mama.”
She looked at the untouched plate.
“Then why is your food still here?”
Daniel quietly pushed the plate toward her.
“I was waiting for you.”
His mother’s eyes filled with tears.
She had spent years struggling to give her son a better life, but that night she realized something—the little boy she was trying so hard to provide for didn't need expensive things. He just needed her.
She sat beside him, pulled him close, and whispered:
“I'm sorry, my son.”
Daniel hugged her tightly.
“It's okay, Mama. Tomorrow, I'll wait for you again.”
And that night, they shared the last plate of rice together.
