I arrived in Orogun yesterday, and what I witnessed broke my heart. Residents around Orogun Town are suffering—struggling daily just to access water, a basic necessity. The tap near Orogun Primary School has been broken for over a year, yet nothing has been done. How long must the people endure this neglect?

I’m calling on the Governor, elected officials, and all political stakeholders: if the APC or PDP can’t do it, I hope the so-called PDAPC can come together to bring water to the people. If none of them can fix a simple water source, what hope is there for the bigger promises?

Igbuzor Foundation Hosts Gas Flaring Research Workshop

The Ejiro & Otive Igbuzor Foundation shall with the support from the Global Greengrants Fund, host a Research Validation and Sensitization Workshop on Friday, April 11, 2025, at the Post Graduate Board Room of the Delta State University, Abraka, Delta State.

The workshop themed “Advocacy Against Gas Flaring in Ughelli North LGA,” is intended to spotlight the environmental and socio-economic impact of gas flaring in oil-producing communities—particularly its detrimental effects on women’s livelihoods and biodiversity.

Lead Researcher, Prof. Sunny Awhefeada, shall present findings from recent assessments at flow stations in Evwrerni, Eruemukohwoarien, Ogor, and Orogun/Kokori, documenting the extensive damage caused by exploitative activities and effluent discharges of oil companies.

According to Mr. Monday Osasah, FSM, Executive Director of the Foundation, “The need to ensure that stakeholders remain committed to the ideals of environmental justice, sustainability, and inclusive community development is a strong impetus for convening this workshop. We believe that research-backed advocacy is critical in driving long-term policy reforms and protecting vulnerable populations.”

The workshop will bring together key stakeholders, including members of academia, host community leaders, civil society organizations, representatives of oil companies, and officials from the Ministries of Oil & Gas and Environment.

The activity is part of the Foundation’s ongoing community development efforts, in advancing environmental equity, and advocacy for responsible extractive practices.

Omo-Agege congratulates, tasks Austin Avuru, NNPC on oil sector reform

The Deputy Senate President in the 9th Assembly, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has congratulated Mr. Austin Avuru on his appointment into the management team of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited as a non-executive director by President Bola Tinubu.

He also congratulated Engineer Bashir Bayo Ojulari who was appointed the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) as well as Ahmadu Musa Kida who emerged the non-executive chairman.

In his congratulatory message, Senator Omo-Agege charged them to be inspired by President Tinubu's bold ambition to make NNPC Limited a global player in the oil and gas sector.

To Avuru, from Delta State and representing the South South region in the new management, Omo-Agege recalled that as an accomplished entrepreneur in the industry, his appointment comes with high expectations.

"Given President Tinubu's vision of increasing investment in the oil industry to $30 billion by 2027 and $60 billion by 2030, your appointment is a deliberate one to leverage on your sterling antecedents and expertise. You are excellently equipped to impact on Mr. President's achievable plan and I am confident that your passion for the industry will be brought to bear in the task ahead," Omo-Agege stated.

He said on the new board rests the responsibility of driving President Tinubu's plan of boosting NNPC's share of crude oil refining output to 200,000 barrels by 2027 and 500,000 by 2030.

A geologist by training, Avuru has spent over 40 years in the Nigerian oil and gas sector and was Managing Director of Platform Petroleum Limited and in 2010 became the pioneer CEO of Seplat Ltd, a company he co-founded.

Under his leadership, Seplat was dually listed on the London Stock Exchange and Nigeria Stock Exchange.

Avuru is a fellow and past President of the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE), a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) and a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).

He is the author of “Politics, Economics & the Nigerian Petroleum Industry” and co-author of “Nigerian Petroleum Business, A Handbook”. He won the 2013 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the Master Class Category for Nigeria and the West African Sub-region.

Site Engineer Murdered by Employees Over Bank Account Balance in Delta State

Delta State, Nigeria – Tragedy struck in the Akwukwu Igbo community as a site engineer, Chigozie Udalor, was brutally murdered by his employees after they discovered he had a substantial amount of money in his bank account.

According to the Delta State Police Command, Udalor, 38, was employed by his cousin as a site engineer at a fish pond in Bod Camp, Akwukwu Igbo. He had hired four workers, all from Benue State. On December 10, 2024, the workers conspired against him, striking him on the head with a hammer and burying his body in a shallow grave at the site.

His disappearance was first reported on December 12, 2024, by his cousin, Hyacinth Nnalue, at the Akwukwu Igbo Police Division. The case was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, where the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, instructed a special team, led by CSP Aliyu Shaba of the Ekpan Division, to conduct a thorough investigation.

Months later, on March 31, 2025, a breakthrough came when police arrested one of the suspects, David Tacho, while he was attempting to withdraw money from Udalor’s Moniepoint account using the victim’s phone. Another suspect, Daniel Orshio, was also apprehended. During interrogation, the suspects confessed that they, alongside two accomplices—Victor Tacho and Pius Daniel, who remain at large—hatched the plan to kill Udalor after learning about the funds in his account.

Following the arrests, authorities exhumed the victim’s body on April 2, 2025. His remains are now set for an autopsy, while efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects are ongoing.

Delta State Police Command spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, has assured the public that the force is committed to ensuring justice is served, urging anyone with useful information to assist in tracking down the remaining culprits.

The tragic incident has left the community in shock, highlighting yet again the depths of man’s inhumanity to man.

IDWGS: Opone, Efe-Nogo Urge Support for STEM Education in Orogun

By Foster Akpore

As the world marks the 10th anniversary of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (IDWGS) on February 11, 2025, the President General of Orogun Kingdom, Chief Barr. E.T. Opone, and the Onotu-Uku, Chief Do-Good O. Efe-Nogo JP, have called for greater support to strengthen STEM education in the kingdom, particularly for young girls.

Chief Opone announced plans for a school needs assessment to identify challenges in STEM education, highlighting the shortage of teachers and inadequate science equipment as major barriers. He urged individuals, organizations, and the government to support efforts in bridging these gaps.

“Orogun is in dire need of qualified teachers, especially in the sciences. Our children deserve the same educational opportunities as their counterparts in urban areas. If we must close the gender gap in STEM, we must first close the gap in access to quality science education,” Chief Opone stated.

Chief Efe-Nogo reaffirmed his commitment to education, emphasizing his investment in youth development, interschool competitions, and sensitization programs to inspire girls in science.

“As Onotu-Uku of Orogun Kingdom, I remain fully committed to fostering an educational environment where our sons and daughters can thrive in STEM fields. My support for science education is unwavering, and I encourage stakeholders to join hands in making science more accessible to girls and boys in Orogun Kingdom,” he affirmed.

With collective efforts from traditional leaders, community organizations, and government intervention, the future of STEM education for girls in Orogun looks promising.

Address on International Day of Care and Support by the President General of Orogun Kingdom

Ladies and gentlemen,

On this International Day of Care and Support, I bring a message deeply rooted in our values: the importance of caring for one another, especially our elders, the vulnerable, the infirm and the physically challenged among us.

The Okpara-Uku, Ekpara, and Okaorho are the custodians of our heritage, carrying the wisdom and culture that define us. It is our collective duty to ensure they receive the care and support they deserve, especially in their time of need, without placing additional burdens on them.

As the global community recognizes the significance of the care economy—both paid and unpaid—it is crucial that we, too, embrace this responsibility. Care work, whether nursing an elder, assisting someone with disabilities, or providing for a family, is the foundation of a compassionate and thriving society.

The United Nations has called for gender-responsive, disability-inclusive, and age-sensitive care systems. In response to this call, as President General of Orogun Kingdom, we established the Directorate of Welfare and Special Assistant on Persons Living With Disabilities (PLWDs) in our executive council to ensure dignity for our elders, empowerment for our women, and opportunities for those with disabilities to lead fulfilling lives.

Our strength as a community is measured by how we care for the weak and vulnerable. Let us come together, not just in words but in action, creating a community where the Okpara-Uku, Ekpara and Okaorho live in peace, our women thrive, and the physically challenged are supported.

In conclusion, let this day remind us that care is not a burden but a sacred duty. Through collective care and support, Orogun Kingdom will continue to thrive and shine as a guiding light for future generations.

Thank you, and may we uphold the values of care and compassion always.

*Inauguration Address for the Swearing-In and Oath-Taking Ceremony of Exco Members of the Office of the President General of Orogun Kingdom*

The Okpara-Uku in Council, distinguished chiefs, newly inaugurated Executive Council members, members of Orogun Kingdom, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,

It is with immense pride and deep honour that I stand before you today as we gather to witness a pivotal moment in the life of our beloved Kingdom.

This inauguration marks not just the beginning of a new administration but a renewed commitment to our shared vision of progress, unity, and collective success.

As we embark on this new chapter, it is essential to acknowledge the solid foundations laid by the past President Generals of Orogun Kingdom. Their service, dedication, and leadership have brought us to this point of strength and possibility.

Most notably, I must recognize the immediate past President General, Chief Barr. Benson Ndakara, and his team. Their commitment to the development and well-being of Orogun has left an indelible mark on our community. As your President General, I pledge to build on the legacy they have left behind, ensuring continuity and progress in all aspects of our kingdom’s growth.

In stepping into this gargantuan role, I humbly solicit the same type of unwavering support that Orogun Kingdom accorded to Chief Barr. Benson Ndakara and his administration. No leader can succeed without the collective backing of their people. Therefore, I ask for your prayers, advice, and active engagement as we move forward.

This administration’s policy will focus on six key areas: Education, Health, Women and Youth Empowerment, Diaspora Engagement, Recognition of Contributors to Orogun’s Development, Volunteerism, and Infrastructure Development. These areas are vital pillars for building a prosperous and thriving Orogun Kingdom. Our commitment to education aims to equip our youth with the knowledge and skills needed to compete in today’s world. In healthcare, we will work to improve access to quality services for everyone, understanding that a healthy community is a prosperous one.

In addition to education and healthcare, we will prioritize women and youth empowerment, ensuring that these groups have the opportunities and resources to thrive and contribute meaningfully to our society. Through targeted programs and initiatives, we will foster entrepreneurship, skills development, and leadership among women and young people.

Diaspora engagement is another key focus, as we seek to harness the skills, resources, and expertise of Orogun indigenes living abroad, encouraging more of their involvement in the development of our kingdom. We will also honour and recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to Orogun’s growth and development, celebrating their efforts and inspiring others to follow in their footsteps.

Furthermore, we believe in the power of volunteerism to strengthen community bonds and drive positive change. We will promote a culture of service where individuals actively participate in projects that benefit the collective good. Lastly, infrastructural development will be a cornerstone of our efforts, as we aim to improve essential services and build modern facilities that support economic growth and enhance the quality of life for all residents.

To ensure that our goals are grounded in reality, this administration will conduct a needs assessment or social audit to assess the current state of affairs in each of these key sectors. This audit will give us a clear understanding of where we stand and where improvements are needed.

Moreover, we will implement a Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning framework to track our progress and measure the impact of our efforts. Accountability will be at the forefront of this administration’s agenda, as we are determined to deliver tangible results for our people.

We cannot achieve these goals without vital partnerships with state and non-state actors at the international, national, state, and local government levels. To this end, I call on the sons and daughters of this kingdom to help us knock and open the right doors to make this a reality.

I would like to take a moment to express my sincere appreciation to Chief Do-Good O. Efe-Nogo, JP, the Onotu-Uku of Orogun, Chief Pius Ovbije, Hon. Matthew Onojighofia Omonade and Mr. Jimmy Omo-Agege for their continued financial contributions to the development of our Kingdom, most especially their unsolicited support for this inauguration. Their generosity has been instrumental in advancing several key initiatives, and we are deeply grateful for their unwavering support.

As we move forward, I urge the newly inaugurated Executive Council members to embrace the values of integrity, transparency, and accountability. The mandate you have received today is not a ceremonial one; it is a sacred trust that comes with the responsibility to serve the people of Orogun diligently and selflessly. Leadership is not about power or privilege—it is about service. We are here to serve the people, and we must do so with humility, commitment, and a clear focus on the common good.

As we embark on this journey, let us remember the simple but powerful principle that will guide our actions: TEAM—Together, Everyone Achieves More. Our strength lies in our unity, in our ability to collaborate, and in our willingness to support one another. This administration will be driven by the spirit of cooperation, not competition. We will build bridges of understanding and collaboration, ensuring that every member of our community has a role to play in achieving our shared goals.

As we look to the future, we must remain steadfast in our commitment to progress, unity, and development. The challenges we face are significant, but so are the opportunities. With the right leadership, the support of our people, and the guidance of the Almighty, we will overcome every obstacle and achieve greatness for Orogun Kingdom.

In closing, I once again ask for your prayers, support, and cooperation as we embark on this journey together. Let us work hand in hand, with faith and determination, to build a brighter and more prosperous future for Orogun Kingdom.

Thank you, and may the spirit of teamwork and unity guide us in all that we do.

*Goodwill Message from Chief Do-Good O. Efe-Nogo (JP), Onotu-Uku of Orogun Kingdom, to the Executive Council Members of the Office of the President General of Orogun Kingdom during their formal inauguration*

Distinguished President General, Honourable Members of the Executive Council of the Office of the President General of Orogun Kingdom,

It is with a heart full of pride and hope that I extend my warmest goodwill and congratulations to each of you on this occasion of your inauguration into the leadership of our great kingdom.

Today marks a new chapter in the history of Orogun—a chapter of promise, progress, and unity—and I have every confidence that, under your collective leadership, Orogun Kingdom will continue to thrive.

In particular, I must commend the President General, Chief Barr. E.T. Opone, whose sterling leadership has not only inspired confidence but has indeed proven that great leaders are made through action, not mere words.

When you were first nominated, there was some resistance—an uncertainty that clouded the hearts of a few. But in the months since you took the reins, you have exceeded all expectations. You have shown, time and time again, that leadership is not about titles or qualifications, but about a deep, unwavering commitment to serve.

As the saying goes, "God does not call the qualified, He qualifies the called." Your journey has been a testament to this truth. Through your dedication, wisdom, and humility, you have proven that you were divinely chosen for this role. You have skillfully navigated challenges, healed divisions, and brought about a sense of unity and purpose within the kingdom.

To the newly inaugurated members of the Executive Council, I encourage you to take a leaf from the President General’s book. You are now custodians of the hopes and aspirations of Orogun Kingdom. It is your duty to serve with integrity, fairness, and a deep respect for our traditions. I have no doubt that each of you will rise to this calling and work together to build a stronger, more united Orogun.

As we gather here today, I also wish to remind everyone that whether you stand in support or opposition to the Onotu-Uku, this day is dedicated to the inauguration of the President General and his executives. Let us limit our focus to this significant moment, setting aside any other discussions for the future. Unity and respect must prevail as we celebrate this milestone in the leadership of Orogun Kingdom.

As you embark on this sacred responsibility, know that you have the full support of the traditional council and all well-meaning sons and daughters of this kingdom. Together, we will stand behind you, offering guidance, strength, and wisdom as you lead our people into a future of progress and prosperity.

May the Almighty guide your steps, grant you the wisdom to lead, and protect you as you serve Orogun Kingdom with all your heart.

On behalf of myself, the traditional council, and the entire Orogun Kingdom, I extend my sincere congratulations once again and wish you a fruitful and impactful tenure.

Long live the Okpara-Uku and the Ekpara!
Long live the President General!
Long live the Executive Council!
Long live Orogun Kingdom!

Signed,

*Chief Do-Good O. Efe-Nogo (JP)*
