Don't sleep when you should be praying.
Last year, I planned to wake up at midnight to pray.
My alarm woke me, but I turned it off and fell back asleep.
Immediately, I heard a gentle rebuke in my spirit: "All the sleep you've been sleeping, what has it done for you?" My eyes cleared, and I felt compelled to read Psalms and praise God.
As I prayed, the power returned, and I plugged in my phone. Suddenly, strange sounds came from the ceiling, and the lights flickered.
I stopped praying, checked the time (nearly 1 a.m.), and investigated. I saw fire spreading from the wires connecting my landlord's room to my neighbor's room and mine.
I screamed, "Fire! Help!" but my co-tenant was unaware. My landlord's son came out, but I warned him not to fight the fire alone. No one else helped. I shouted, "Jesus!" and my neighbor's name, as the fire threatened their room. Tragically, they thought I was being robbed and didn't come out.
Yet, I continued crying out to Jesus, and miraculously, the fire stopped. If I had ignored the prompting to pray and slept, I might not be alive today.
This experience taught me to know God personally and stay spiritually alert. We must not sleep like others; we must watch and be sober (1 Thessalonians 5:6).
