Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has dissolved the Governing Council of Osun State University (UNIOSUN) and reconstituted a new council, with Professor Adewale Abiodun Oladipo retained as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman.

The governor announced the reconstitution in a statement issued on Friday in Osogbo, saying the decision was aimed at strengthening the governance structure of the institution, ensuring continuity and preventing any gap in the administration of the university.

Professor Oladipo, popularly known as Wale Oladipo, who chaired the dissolved council, will continue in the same capacity under the newly constituted council.

Other members of the new Governing Council are Alhaji Gbadegesin Lawal; Her Excellency, Otunba T**i Laoye-Ponnle; Mr Akinola Franklin Omoniyi; Chief Funminiyi Awotide; Mr Orija Samuel Adebayo; and Mrs Adewale Adetayo Bola.

Adeleke charged the new council to build on the achievements recorded by the university and provide the necessary support for its continued growth and development.

The governor specifically urged the council to “sustain the excellent record of the University” and “support the university management for further innovative deliveries.”

According to the statement, the reconstitution is also intended to “avoid gaps in the operation of the globally rated university” and ensure seamless administration of the institution.

The newly constituted Governing Council is expected to be inaugurated on Monday, August 31, 2026.

Officers of the Nigerian Police attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have reportedly arrested Uthman Olalekan, a media aide to Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke.

Olalekan was reportedly arrested in the early hours of Friday, August 28, 2026, at his residence in Ede, Osun State, by four police officers attached to the State CID.

The circumstances surrounding his arrest remain unclear, as the Osun State Police Command had yet to publicly disclose the reason for his detention or the allegations against him as of the time of filing this report.

The development has generated concerns among citizens and political stakeholders, particularly coming amid heightened political tension in the state following the recent election.

There are also reports that the police are allegedly tracking four other media aides attached to the governor’s media team, a development that has raised concerns among supporters and associates of the affected individuals.

Some stakeholders have described the development as an alleged attempt to intimidate members of the governor’s media team, while demanding that Olalekan be released if he has committed no offence.

They also urged the police to ensure that the media aide is not subjected to unlawful detention, intimidation or harassment, stressing the importance of respecting due process and fundamental rights.

However, the police are legally empowered to investigate alleged offences and make arrests where necessary, provided such actions are carried out in accordance with the law.

As of press time, the Osun State Police Command had not issued an official statement explaining the circumstances surrounding Olalekan’s arrest.
