Stray Bullet Kills One, Injures Many in Sapele

It was a night of cries and wailing in Sapele Local Government Area after a stray bullet hit and killed a 13-year-old boy on the spot, injuring many others.

At about 10:00 PM on Thursday night at a popular hotel around Mopol Zone junction at Tropical, the security personnel attached to the hotel started shooting sporadically when one of the bullets hit the young boy.

Tension looms in the area with a sketchy report on why the security guard started shooting.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, is yet to comment on the matter.

Reason Why Prof. Amupitan Was Appointed INEC Chair—Presidency
‎
‎Professor Joash Amupitan (SAN) has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission by President Bola Tinubu on the basis of neutrality, integrity, and an outstanding record of service.
‎
‎This is according to President Tinubu in a statement on Thursday through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. The Kogi-born professor has a track record of national service and will be the very first from his state to occupy such a sensitive position.
‎
‎When the nomination was made at the State House, council members, comprising both serving and former leaders, supported the nomination of Professor Amupitan, succeeding Professor Mahmood Yakubu, and forwarded his name to the Senate for screening.

Sapele LGA Gives New Directives to Okada and Keke Riders
‎
‎A new guide on how tricycles (Keke) and motorcycles (Okada) will operate in Sapele Local Government has been shared by the Council Secretary to curb crimes and ensure the safety of all.
‎
‎On Tuesday, the statement, which was made available to newsmen in Warri, was signed by Hon. Raymond Overah. It stated that 30 days from the notification, all commercial Keke and Okada riders in Sapele must stop the use of face masks or get ready to be arrested, with the operational time for Keke set from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm, while Okada is from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm.
‎
‎The statement also stressed the compulsory use of reflective vests and a written area code number, urging passengers not to enter any Keke without a valid and visible VIO number. During rainfall, the Keke cover should be properly tied.
‎
‎The council warned that any okada or keke operator arrested for violating the directives shall be detained for seven days, while the act of theft at ATP premises from any unions, operators, or even residents will not be tolerated, as any defaulter will be shot on sight.

Delta Police Arrest Kidnappers Terrorizing Upper-Agbarho
‎
‎Two suspected kidnappers have been killed following a fierce gun battle with operatives of the Delta State Police Command during a rescue operation related to kidnapping around Upper-Agbarho and its environs in Ughelli.
‎
‎On Monday, SP Bright Edafe revealed in a statement that two policemen are receiving treatment for gunshot injuries while the suspects died at the hospital.
‎
‎Following orders, a team was launched, led by ASP Julius Robinson, to apprehend the two suspects: Abubakar Musa, 28 years old, from Ajase town, Irepodun LGA, Kwara State, but residing in the Abajo area of Port Harcourt, and Yusuf Sale, a 25-year-old from Rimin-Zayam town, Toro LGA, Bauchi State, residing in the New Owerri area of Owerri.
‎
‎The two led operatives to a bush between Upper-Agbarho and Oviri–Ogor Communities, where one AK-47 with its two magazines and forty-three rounds of live ammunition, one pump-action shotgun, and a locally made pistol were recovered.
‎
‎SP Edafe revealed that the operatives were ambushed on their way out of the bush by other gang members wanting to set the suspects free. During the exchange of gunfire, the suspects and others sustained injuries.
‎
‎Two police operatives also sustained gunshot injuries and are currently receiving treatment.
‎
‎Operatives are currently hunting for the fleeing gang members, while the injured died at the hospital.
