10th Muharram: Why Do We Fast?🌱

'Abdullah b. 'Abbas narrated that when the Messenger of Allah came to Madinah, he found the Jews fasting on the day of 'Ashūrā'.

The Messenger of Allah asked them: "What is the (significance) of this day that you fast on it?"

They replied: "This is a glorious day in which Allah saved Mūsā & his people, and He drowned Pharaoh & his people. Mūsā fasted on this day out of gratitude, so we also fast on it."

The Messenger of Allah said: "We have a greater right upon Mūsā and are closer to him than you."🌻

And so, the Messenger of Allah fasted on this day and ordered the Muslims to fast. (Muslim)🌿

He started his Dahwa 40yrs ago and he spent 63yrs on earth... Allohu Akbar, what an impactful Life and meaningful ending...

It's with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our esteemed scholar and sheikh, Dr. Rosheed Buwaeb. Our hearts are heavy as we mourn his departure. The janazah, or Islamic funeral prayer, to honor Dr. Rosheed Buwaeb will be held at 4:00 pm at Islahudeen Islamic School Oyode. We pray that Allah forgives his shortcomings and grant him Jannah.

WHAT IS ZAKAT AL-FITR (FITRANA)?

Zakat al-Fitr (also known as Fitrana) is a charitable donation of food that must be given before the Eid prayer on Eid al-Fitr. It can also be given before the end of the month of Ramadan. This year, Ramadan is expected to begin of the evening of Monday, 11th March 2024, and end of the evening of Tuesday, 9th April 2024.
Fitrana is obligatory for all Muslims (including babies and children) living in any household with more food than they need. However, the payment itself should be carried out by the head of the household, on behalf of themselves and their dependents.
Ibn `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported,

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ordained Zakat al Fitr [Fitrana] to purify the fasting person from indecent words or actions, and to provide food for the needy. It is accepted as Zakat for the person who gives it before the Eid prayer; but it is a mere Sadaqah for the one who gives it after the prayer.”

What allah ordered is compulsory for those believers to obey it and fasting is ordered by almighty allah, as he ordered it for those before us.

Fasting the month of Ramadan was made obligatory (wajib) during the month of Sha'ban (8th Month), in the second year after the Muslims migrated from Makkah to Medina (624 AD).

And nobody has kidney problems while fasting except when the person has the disease before the fasting and allah has prescribed number should be made up from days later. So when the person has recovered from the sickness he or she should fast in another day.

BILAL, THE FIRST AFRICAN TO EMBRACE ISLAM

When the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ left this world, Bilal (RA) left Madinah and went to Sham because he couldn’t live in Madinah without seeing Rasūlullāh. One night, he saw the Beloved in his dream who said, « Bilal you haven’t visited us in so long! » He got up and tirelessly rode until he got to Madinah.

When he made the adhan on that day after many years, Madinah shook and every man and woman wept in remembrance of the Habib😭😭😭

When he reached, ‘Ashahadu ana Muhammad…’ he fell on the floor in tears because he couldn’t bear to make the adhan without seeing Rasūlullāh ﷺ. When Bilal (RA) was on his deathbed, he said, ‘What a day of happiness! Tomorrow I will meet Muhammad ﷺ and his Companions.’

We can continue to talk about many of them and their contribution and the sacrifices made to Islamic development, which later created Empires in the world.
