ABIDEMI — FROM THE TRENCHES TO THE TOP

Chapter Eight: Truth in the Shadows

Abidemi couldn't stop thinking about the photograph.
The mysterious man standing beside his father.
And that symbol.
The same symbol Mama had worn around her neck for as long as he could remember.
There had to be a connection.
He returned to the files he had taken from the hidden room and began searching through everything.
Then he found something.
A photograph from 1999.
His father.
Kelvin.
And the mysterious man.
Abidemi zoomed in on the man's face.
His heart skipped.
He had seen that face before.
Not in person.
In one of Mama's old photographs.
He immediately called her.
“Mama, I need to ask you something.”
There was silence.
“Where did you get this symbol?”
Mama's voice became shaky.
“Abidemi... where did you see it?”
“So you know the man in the photograph?”
Another silence.
Then Mama whispered:
“Please, my son. Forget everything you're looking for.”
“Forget my father?”
“I am trying to protect you.”
“From who?”
Before Mama could answer, the call suddenly ended.
Abidemi stared at the phone.
Then he heard a notification.
A new audio file had been sent to him from an unknown number.
He played it.
His father's voice came through.
“Abidemi, if you're hearing this, you're getting close.”
Abidemi's eyes widened.
“There are people who will do anything to keep the truth buried.”
The recording crackled.
“Trust no one around Kelvin.”
Then came a final sentence:
“The man you are looking for is closer than you think.”
The recording ended.
Abidemi sat silently.
Then he looked through the window.
A black car was parked across the street.
Someone was watching him.
He quickly stepped outside.
The car sped away.
Abidemi jumped into his own car and followed.
The chase took him across the city.
Eventually, the black car disappeared into traffic.
Abidemi stopped.
He looked into his rear-view mirror.
Another car was behind him.
He had been followed too.
He drove home through another route.

When he arrived, Mama was waiting.
She looked frightened.
“Abidemi... you have to leave.”
“Why?”
“They know you have the files.”
“Who?”
Mama looked at him with tears in her eyes.
“The people who took your father.”
Abidemi froze.
“You know who they are?”
Mama nodded.
“And you know where my father is?”
She couldn't answer.
Then Abidemi noticed the pendant around her neck.
The strange symbol.
“Mama... what does that symbol mean?”
She held it tightly.
“It belonged to your father.”
Abidemi stepped closer.
“Then why do you have it?”
Mama finally broke down.
“Because he gave it to me the night before they took him.”
Abidemi's voice trembled.
“Who took him?”
Mama looked toward the window.
Then she whispered:
“The man you're looking for.”
Before Abidemi could ask another question, a folded note slid underneath the front door.
He picked it up.
Only one sentence was written:
“MEET ME WHERE IT ALL ENDS. FRIDAY. 10PM. THE OLD DOCK.”
At the bottom was the same mysterious symbol.
Abidemi looked at his mother.
“I have to go.”
Mama grabbed his arm.
“No!”
“I need to find my father.”
“You don't understand!”
“Then tell me!”
Mama's eyes filled with tears.
“If you go there…”
She paused.
“…you may never come back.”
Abidemi slowly pulled his hand away.
For twenty-seven years, he had searched for answers he didn't even know he was missing.
Now the truth was finally within reach.
He couldn't turn back.
Friday night.
10 p.m.
The old dock.
One meeting.
One truth.
And possibly the biggest trap of his life.

ABIDEMI — FROM THE TRENCHES TO THE TOP
Chapter Seven: The Clues Don't Lie
Abidemi couldn't sleep.
Daniel's words kept repeating in his head.
“Kelvin's boss.”
Who was this man?
And why was he so interested in his father?
At about 3 a.m., Abidemi remembered something.
Before they escaped, Daniel had slipped something into his hand.
A small folded piece of paper.
Abidemi opened it.
Only one sentence was written:
“There is only one place left. Where it all began.”
Underneath was an address.
Abidemi recognized it immediately.
The old recording studio.
The place where his father had started his music career.
The following morning, Abidemi drove there alone.
The building looked abandoned.
Broken windows.
Dusty walls.
But Abidemi knew there had to be something inside.
He searched the old studio until he noticed something strange behind the recording booth.
A loose brick.
He pulled it out.
Behind it was a small metal key.
The key opened a hidden door beneath the floor.
Abidemi climbed down.
His flashlight revealed a secret room.
And inside were dozens of files.
Photographs.
Contracts.
Bank records.
Newspaper clippings.
And one name appeared repeatedly.
OLAMILEKAN ADEREMI.
Abidemi picked up a file.
His father's photograph was attached to the front.
But beneath it was a word that made his blood run cold:
CONFIDENTIAL.
He opened the file.
The first page contained a handwritten sentence:
“HE TRIED TO EXPOSE US… SO WE TOOK HIM.”
Abidemi stepped backward.
“They took him…”
Suddenly, he heard a noise.
Someone was upstairs.
He switched off his flashlight.
Footsteps slowly descended the stairs.
One step.
Then another.
Abidemi held his breath.
A man's voice came from the darkness.
“You shouldn't be here.”
Abidemi turned around.
He couldn't see the man's face.
“Who are you?”
The man stepped forward.
“I knew your father.”
Abidemi tightened his fists.
“Where is he?”
The man didn't answer.
Instead, he placed a small envelope on the table.
“Your father wanted you to have this.”
Abidemi stared at the envelope.
Before he could reach for it, the man disappeared into the darkness.
Abidemi opened the envelope.
Inside was another photograph.
His father.
Standing beside Kelvin.
And beside them was a third man.
A man Abidemi had never seen before.
On the back of the photograph were three words:
“HE IS WATCHING.”
Suddenly, Abidemi heard a car screech outside.
He looked through the broken window.
A black SUV had stopped outside.
Two men stepped out.
Abidemi grabbed the files and ran.
He escaped through the back entrance just as the men entered the building.
Across the city, Kelvin received a phone call.
“Sir, he found the files.”
There was silence.
Then Kelvin's boss spoke.
“Does he know who I am?”
“No, sir.”
A cold smile appeared on the man's face.
“Good.”
He looked at an old photograph sitting on his desk.
It showed Olamilekan Aderemi.
Then he whispered:
“Not yet.”
He picked up another photograph.
This one showed Abidemi as a small boy.
“Bring him to me.”
Kelvin asked:
“Alive?”
The man answered:
“Alive. At all costs.”
Meanwhile, Abidemi sat inside his car, staring at the photograph.
There was something about the mysterious third man.
Something familiar.
Then he noticed the ring on the man's finger.
His mother wore the exact same symbol on an old necklace.
Abidemi's eyes widened.
What was the connection between his mother and this mysterious man?
And why had his father been taken?
The answers were getting closer.
But so was the danger.

ABIDEMI — FROM THE TRENCHES TO THE TOP

Chapter Six: Daniel's Return

The phone call lasted only five seconds.

“Your father is alive.”

Then the caller hung up.

Abidemi stood in the middle of his living room, staring at the phone.

His father.

Alive.

After twenty-seven years.

It didn't make sense.

He immediately called the number back.

Number unavailable.

He tried again.

Nothing.

Abidemi sat down slowly.

Then he remembered the name Uncle Tunde had mentioned weeks earlier.

Daniel.

The missing artist Kelvin once managed.

The man who disappeared from the music industry.

Abidemi had a strange feeling that Daniel knew something.

So he began searching.

He found an old newspaper article with a faded photograph.

DANIEL OKEKE — RISING MUSIC STAR DISAPPEARS FROM PUBLIC LIFE.

There was an old address underneath.

Abidemi drove there that evening.

It led him to a small, quiet neighborhood far from the city.

He knocked on the door.

No answer.

He knocked again.

An elderly man finally opened it.

He stared at Abidemi for several seconds.

Then his eyes widened.

“You're Olamilekan's son.”

Abidemi's heart jumped.

“You knew my father?”

The old man looked around nervously.

“Come inside.”

Abidemi entered.

The room was filled with old music records and photographs.

Then he saw it.

A photograph of his father standing beside a much younger Daniel.

Abidemi picked it up.

“What happened to them?”

Daniel's voice suddenly came from behind him.

“I can tell you.”

Abidemi turned.

The man standing there looked older now, but the face from the newspaper was unmistakable.

Daniel.

“You're alive.”

Daniel gave a bitter smile.

“So are you.”

Abidemi stepped closer.

“Where is my father?”

Daniel's expression changed.

“That's the question I've been trying to answer for twenty-seven years.”

Abidemi froze.

“What?”

Daniel sat down.

“Your father discovered something about Kelvin's company. He wanted to expose them.”

“What did he discover?”
Daniel looked directly into Abidemi's eyes.
“Money wasn't the real problem.”
He paused.
“It was people.”
Abidemi frowned.
“What people?”
Before Daniel could answer, there was a loud knock at the door.
Both men froze.
Daniel whispered:
“They found me.”
Abidemi's heart began racing.
“Who?”
Daniel didn't answer.
The knock came again.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
Daniel grabbed Abidemi's arm.
“There's a back door. Go.”
“But my father—”
“GO!”
They rushed through the back.
As Abidemi ran toward his car, he heard Daniel shout:
“ABIDEMI!”
He turned.
Daniel was standing in the doorway.
“There is one person who knows where your father is!”
“Who?”
Daniel looked terrified.
Then he said:
“Kelvin's boss.”
Before Abidemi could ask another question, a black SUV sped around the corner.
Daniel disappeared back inside.
Abidemi drove away as fast as he could.
But he didn't notice the black SUV following him.
And inside that vehicle...
Kelvin was watching him.
He picked up his phone.
“Sir,” Kelvin said quietly.
“He found Daniel.”
There was silence on the other end.
Then a cold voice replied:
“Then it's time to bring Abidemi home.”
Kelvin smiled.
“Yes, sir.”
And somewhere in a dark room across the city, an old man opened a file.
On the front was one name:
OLAMILEKAN ADEREMI.
Underneath it was written:
STATUS: ALIVE.

ABIDEMI — FROM THE TRENCHES TO THE TOP

Chapter Five: The Man in the Photograph

Abidemi stood inside the old recording studio, unable to move.
Kelvin's words echoed in his head.
“Ask your father.”
His father.
A man he had spent his entire life believing had abandoned him.
But Mama's voice from the darkness had said something different.
“Don't trust Kelvin.”
Abidemi turned toward the voice.
“Mama!”
Silence.
He ran through the building, searching every room.
Nothing.
Then he noticed a small door behind the old recording booth.
He pushed it open.
Inside was a dusty storage room.
Old records.
Old photographs.
Old newspapers.
And one wooden box.
Abidemi opened it.
Inside was the same photograph he had found at home—but there were several more pictures underneath it.
His mother's younger face appeared again and again.
And beside her was the same man.
On one photograph, the man's name was written:
OLAMILEKAN ADEREMI.
Abidemi stared at the name.
“Aderemi…”
His own surname.
His hands began shaking.
He picked up an old newspaper.
The headline read:
LOCAL MUSICIAN GOES MISSING IN 1999.
Underneath was a photograph of the same man.
Olamilekan Aderemi.
Missing for over twenty-seven years.
Abidemi's heart sank.
“That's my father…”
Suddenly, he heard footsteps.
He turned.
Uncle Tunde was standing at the doorway.
“You finally found him.”
Abidemi looked at him.
“You knew?”
Uncle Tunde nodded slowly.
“You knew my father?”
“I knew both your father and your mother.”
“Then tell me what happened!”
Uncle Tunde sighed.
“Your father was becoming famous. Very famous. But there were people who wanted to control his career.”
“Kelvin?”
Uncle Tunde didn't answer.
That silence was enough.
Abidemi stepped closer.
“What did they do to him?”
Before Uncle Tunde could respond, Abidemi noticed something underneath the wooden box.
Another cassette.
He picked it up.
Written across the label were four words:

FOR MY SON — THE TRUTH.

Abidemi's breathing stopped.
He found an old cassette player and inserted the tape.
Static filled the room.
Then a man's voice came through.
A young man's voice.
“Abidemi…”
He froze.
The voice continued.
“If you're hearing this, then you're old enough to know what happened.”
Abidemi covered his mouth.
It was his father.
“I didn't abandon you.”
Tears filled Abidemi's eyes.
“I was taken away from you.”
The tape crackled.
“I discovered what Kelvin was doing. I tried to expose him, but I was warned to keep quiet.”
Abidemi looked at Uncle Tunde.
The old man lowered his head.
Then his father's voice continued:
“Your mother tried to protect you. If anything happens to me, she must keep you away from Kelvin.”
The tape suddenly stopped.
Abidemi hit the machine.
“No! No, no, no!”
He pressed play again.
Nothing.
Then he noticed something written on the cassette case.
“THE SECOND TAPE IS WITH MAMA.”
Abidemi stood up.
His mother had the second tape.
But Mama was gone.
He rushed home.
The house was empty.
Again.
But this time, there was a note on his bed.
He picked it up.
Only five words were written:
“Find your father before Kelvin does.”
Abidemi stared at the message.
His father had disappeared twenty-seven years ago.
So how could Kelvin still be looking for him?
Then his phone rang.
Unknown number.
Abidemi answered.
A man's voice whispered:
“Your father is alive.”
The call ended.
Abidemi stood completely still.
For twenty-seven years, he had believed he was the son of a dead man.
Now he had only one question.
Where was his father?
And why had everyone been lying to him?
