The maggot that sometimes comes out of a human or dog’s body is usually the larva of a fly. The condition is called myiasis.

🔎 What is it called?

The most common one in Nigeria and many parts of Africa is the larva of the:
• Cordylobia anthropophaga – commonly called the tumbu fly or mango fly
• Another one found in the Americas is Dermatobia hominis

🦟 What is Myiasis?

Myiasis is when fly larvae (maggots) infect the skin and grow inside it.

It can affect:
• Humans
• Dogs
• Other animals

🩺 How it happens
• The fly lays eggs on damp clothes, soil, or animal bedding.
• The eggs hatch.
• The tiny larvae pe*****te the skin.
• They grow under the skin for days or weeks.

⚠️ Signs and symptoms
• Painful boil-like swelling
• A small hole in the center
• Movement feeling inside
• Sometimes pus or fluid discharge
• The maggot may come out on its own

In dogs, you may notice:
• Swelling with a hole
• Restlessness
• Licking or scratching the area

🚨 What to do
• Do NOT squeeze aggressively.
• Covering the hole with petroleum jelly can sometimes block air and force the maggot to come out.
• Best option: Go to a hospital or veterinary clinic for proper removal.
• The wound should be cleaned and treated to prevent infection.

🔴 When Antibiotics ARE Needed

Antibiotics may be prescribed if there are signs of bacterial infection, such as:
• Increased redness around the wound
• Swelling spreading
• Pus discharge
• Fever
• Severe pain
• Bad smell
• The person has diabetes or low immunity

In these cases, a doctor may prescribe oral antibiotics.

🐕 For Dogs

Veterinarians often give antibiotics if:
• There are multiple maggots
• The wound is large
• There is secondary infection

⚠️ Important

Antibiotics do not kill the maggot.
The maggot must be physically removed first.

After removal:
• Clean with antiseptic
• Dress properly
• Monitor for infection

🌸❌ Why you should NOT carry a baby like this (Wrong position)

The baby's legs hang straight down, which puts wrong pressure on the hip joints.

This can cause poor hip development and increase the risk of hip dysplasia.

The baby's spine and neck do not get proper support.

It can be uncomfortable and painful for the baby over time.

The baby may also feel less secure.

✅Why you SHOULD carry a baby like this (Correct position)

The baby's legs form an "M shape" (knees higher than the bottom) - this is the natural position.

Supports healthy hip and spine development.

The baby feels comfortable, safe, and relaxed.

Baby's weight is evenly distributed, reducing strain on the parent's back.

Helps the baby breathe easily and stay in a good posture.

Easy rule to remember:

"M position = Safe position"

Baby's face should always be visible, and the chin should not press into the chest.

A child psychologist explains that when children are unable to learn potty training for years, it is not stubbornness, but a lack of body awareness.

Wearing diapers for a long time teaches the child’s brain to ignore the signals of urination. That is why, when a 4-year-old child is asked, “Tell us when you need to go to the toilet,” the child genuinely does not know.

Both diapers and pull-ups absorb very quickly, so the child does not feel wetness and the brain does not receive the signal.
Younger children learn faster because they have worn diapers for a shorter time and are introduced to the toilet habit from the beginning.

Older children find it harder because they have to learn something new while also unlearning an old habit.

Therefore, potty training should be started early, and both parents should do it together.

• Definition: Placenta detaches from the uterus before delivery
• Can be dangerous for both mother and baby
• Symptoms: Vaginal bleeding, abdominal pain, contractions, back pain

This is how people think👇

They think epidural is just a momentary procedure.
They think once it’s over, the body goes back to normal.
They think if science says it’s safe, then side effects shouldn’t exist.

But an epidural is not just a pinch.
It involves a needle going into the spine.
Through layers of tissue.
Close to nerves that control movement and sensation.
For some women, after delivery,
everything heals — except the back.

The pain may not come immediately.
Sometimes it appears weeks later.
Sometimes months later.

A dull ache.
Sharp pain while bending.
Discomfort while standing or sitting too long.

This doesn’t happen to everyone.
But it does happen to some.

And for those mothers, back pain becomes a daily reminder of what their body went through to bring life into this world.

Calling it a myth doesn’t make the pain disappear.
It only makes the mother feel unheard.

Every body reacts differently.
And when a mother says her back is not the same after epidural,
she deserves belief — not dismissal.

Parents this story is for you
Yesterday, a woman lost her baby.
Not to sickness.
Not to an accident anyone could see coming.
She lost her baby to SIDS.
Some mothers have never even heard that word before.
Some hear it for the first time on the worst day of their lives.
That night, she did what millions of loving mothers do every day.
She fed her baby.
She held her baby close.
She laid her baby down to sleep.
The baby was placed on the bed, lying on the stomach, with the face resting on the mattress.
The room was quiet.
The baby looked peaceful.
Nothing felt wrong.
Hours passed.
Three hours.
Then four.
The mother noticed something that didn’t feel right.
Her baby hadn’t woken up.
No cry.
No movement.
No small sounds babies usually make.
A mother’s heart knows.
She rushed to the bed.
She called the baby’s name.
She touched the baby.
No response.
No breath.
No movement.
Panic took over.
Her hands were shaking.
Her heart was racing.
She picked up her baby and ran—out of the house, into the night, to the hospital—hoping, praying, begging God silently that this was just a bad dream.
But at the hospital, time stopped.
Doctors tried.
Nurses tried.
Then the words came—the words no parent is ever ready to hear:
“Your baby is gone.”
They explained that it was SIDS — Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
That sometimes, babies stop breathing in their sleep.
That it can happen quietly.
That it can happen even when a baby looks perfectly healthy.
And just like that, her world collapsed.
The cries that followed were not ordinary cries.
They were the cries of a mother whose arms were suddenly empty.
Of a woman replaying the night over and over in her head.
Of a heart asking questions that have no answers.
She kept saying,
“I laid my baby down to sleep.”
“I didn’t know.”
“I didn’t hear anything.”
And that’s the hardest part.
SIDS does not always give warnings.
It does not knock before entering.
It steals silently.
Many mothers do not know that babies are safest sleeping on their backs, on a firm surface, without pillows or heavy bedding.
Many mothers love deeply but lack information.
And love alone, sadly, is not always enough to protect.
This story is not to blame her.
It is not to judge her.
It is to remind us how fragile life is—and how important awareness can be.
One small position.
One night.
One silent moment.
And a baby was gone.
If this story reaches one mother…
If it saves one baby…
Then that little life did not leave this world without meaning.
Please, tell other mothers.
Please, talk about SIDS.
Please, let babies sleep safely.
Because no woman deserves to learn this lesson the hardest way. 💔
