The last part .
"You're poisoning him," Maya spat, holding up the vial. "And you forged his signature on these codicils."
Clara laughed—a short, sharp sound. "Poison is such a crude word. A little fatigue, a little confusion... it makes a man so very agreeable to his loving wife. Give me the bottle, Maya. No one will believe a hysterical girl over a devoted spouse."
"They won't have to believe me," a raspy voice echoed from the shadowed hallway.
Arthur stood leaning heavily against the doorframe, pale and trembling, supported by Mr. Pendelton, whom Maya had secretly summoned an hour earlier. The old lawyer held a pocket recorder, its red light glowing steadily in the dim room.
Arthur looked at Clara, the scales finally falling from his eyes, replaced by a cold, heartbroken clarity. "I gave you my home, Clara. I gave you my trust."
Clara’s composure fractured for a fraction of a second, her dark eyes darting between the lawyer, the recorder, and the evidence in Maya's hand. Seeing the trap fully sprung, the soft elegance vanished completely.
"You gave me scraps," Clara hissed, her voice laced with venom as she straightened her coat. "You were a broken man in a decaying house, Arthur. You think anyone could love you for anything other than what you're worth?"
Without another word, Clara turned on her heel, her heels clicking sharply against the marble floor as she walked out into the storm, leaving behind the estate she had tried so meticulously to steal—and a family that had finally found its way back to each other in the dark.
