AN OPEN LETTER TO SOUTH EAST BILLIONAIRES:

A CALL TO LEGACY, NOT NOISE

Dear Esteemed Sons and Daughters of the South East,

History remembers people not by the size of their wealth, but by the size of the future they helped build. Wealth is powerful, yes—but purpose gives it meaning. Legacy gives it life.

Among the Igbo, we say:
“Aku ruo ụlọ, a mara onye kpara ya.”
When wealth reaches home, the builder is known.

Across Nigeria, we see examples of what happens when wealth meets vision. The donation of a ₦34 billion Medical Research and Training Hospital by Mrs. Folorunso Alakija and her husband to Osun State University is not just philanthropy—it is foresight. It is an investment in life, knowledge, jobs, research, and dignity. It is the kind of decision that quietly reshapes generations.

The South East is blessed with accomplished industrialists, entrepreneurs, professionals, and global investors. Our people are known for enterprise and resilience. Yet today, our land cries not for sympathy, but for structured investment—investment that heals, educates, empowers, and stabilizes our future.

“Onye kwe, chi ya ekwe.”
When one decides, destiny aligns.

What Our People Need

Our region needs:

Teaching hospitals and research centers that save lives

Universities, technical schools, and innovation hubs that prepare our youth for the future

Industries and agro-processing centers that create jobs at home

Sports, technology, and creative ecosystems that channel talent productively

Institutions, not symbols—systems, not slogans

“A na-azụ nwa ka e wee lie ya n’ala nna.”
One raises a child so they can belong and thrive at home.

SEERC: A Platform for Collective Impact

The South East Economic and Reconstruction Council (SEERC) exists to provide a credible, transparent, and coordinated framework for turning private success into public good. SEERC is not about politics or publicity. It is about results on the ground, accountability, and long-term regional development.

Through partnership with SEERC, investments can move beyond isolated projects and become part of a shared South East vision—one that aligns healthcare, education, industry, youth empowerment, and infrastructure into a sustainable whole.

“Otu aka adịghị ebu ngwugwu.”
One hand cannot lift a heavy load.

A Direct Call to Conscience and Action

We write not to accuse, but to invite.
Not to demand, but to appeal.
Not to divide, but to unite purpose with possibility.

To our billionaires and high-net-worth individuals:
Come home with intention.
Partner with SEERC.
Help build institutions that will outlive us all.

“E jiri mara onye mụrụ nwa, n’oge nsogbu.”
A person’s worth is known in times of need.

The South East does not need noise.
It needs builders.
It needs vision.
It needs courage.

Let history say that when the moment called,
you chose legacy.

Signed,
Concerned Sons and Daughters of the South East

In as much as I may not fully agree with the statistics presented, the reactions and comments from some other regions under this post were deeply insulting, demeaning, and frankly embarrassing. Such narratives and the ease with which they are used to belittle the South East reveal a bigger problem—one we can no longer afford to ignore.

This is precisely why all Ndigbo nationwide, all Igbo organizations, groups, and associations, must rise above divisions and come together under a common front: SEERC. Unity is no longer optional; it is a necessity. When we speak with one voice, act with one purpose, and move with a shared vision, we change the story told about us and, more importantly, the future we create for ourselves.

SEERC represents a call for a new beginning for the South East—a beginning rooted in dignity, self-respect, strategic collaboration, and collective progress. It is time to stop reacting individually to insults and start responding collectively with structure, purpose, and strength.

This is our moment to redefine our narrative, protect our identity, and build a future that commands respect.
Together, under SEERC, Ndigbo can chart a new course for the South East.

We cannot keep developing other regions while ours remains in a state of comatose.
Ala Igbo is not a burial ground—yet many of us only return home when tragedy strikes, when a loved one is gone. This is not who we are. This is not who we were meant to be.

We are the engine blocks that drive the economy of this nation.
We build businesses from scratch…
We revive dying markets in other regions…
We create opportunities in places others have abandoned.

But imagine what would happen if the same strength, brilliance, resilience, and unity were channeled back into our homeland.
Imagine a South East that thrives again…
Industrial cities rising…
Roads and security restored…
A business climate that welcomes innovation…
A region where our children can dream, grow, and prosper without fear.

That is why SEERC was created.

A vision.
A movement.
A call to every Igbo son and daughter.

Join SEERC to build a South East that is industrially advanced, secure, self-reliant, and globally competitive—
a region that becomes the heartbeat of manufacturing, trade, education, technology, and sustainable development.

Whether you are in Abia, Imo, Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi…
Whether you are in Lagos, Abuja, Kano…
Or in America, Europe, Asia—
wherever you find yourself, you can be part of this historic transformation.

Do not wait.
Do not watch from a distance.
Ala Igbo needs her people now.
Your voice matters. Your presence matters. Your involvement matters.

Spread the word. Repost. Share. Tag your friends, your family, your loved ones.
Let this message travel from street to street, state to state, and country to country.

Together, we will rewrite the story of the South East.
Together, we become the pioneers of a new dawn.
Together… we will make history.

Join SEERC today.
A new future for Ala Igbo begins with YOU.
