Earlier today in Abuja, I met with former President Goodluck Jonathan to discuss the continued incarceration of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

President Jonathan agreed that there is an urgent and compelling need to address this matter decisively and justly. I thank him sincerely for recognizing the importance of resolving Kanu’s case in the interest of peace, fairness, and national healing. Particularly assuring was that he promised to meet Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to discuss this issue as soon as possible.

With this, former President Jonathan joins a growing list of Nigerians who have called for justice in Nnamdi Kanu’s case, a list that already includes ex Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Femi Falana SAN, Senator Shehu Sani, and many others across political and regional divides.

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu remains in detention today because he took up the just cause of confronting the long-standing issue of marginalization in Nigeria. Like other ethnic and regional activists whose politically motivated cases have been withdrawn or dismissed, Nnamdi Kanu should also be released without further delay.

I once again call on all political, cultural, ethnic, and religious leaders across Nigeria to join this noble cause. In particular, I invite my brothers and sisters from the South East Mr. Peter Obi, Charles Chukwuma Soludo, ALEX C OTTI, Francis Nwifuru, Peter Mbah, Hope Uzodinma, Obiageli Ezekwesili, John Mbata of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide as well as Nigerians of conscience everywhere, to lend their voices to the call for justice and freedom.

Nnamdi Kanu should be set free.
And I remain firmly committed to peacefully mobilizing for justice and freedom in this matter.

Today, President Bola Tinubu extended pardons to a long list of convicted individuals including a co***ne trafficker serving a life sentence, an alleged Coup plotter, Mamman Vatsa, the late Nnamdi Azikiwe and Herbert Macaulay, and even Farouk Lawan, the former lawmaker convicted for taking bribes on tape. He also pardoned other known fraudsters and corrupt politicians.

Yet, in all of this, Tinubu refuses to even consider the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who has been unjustly detained for years despite multiple court orders mandating his freedom.

It is a glaring hypocrisy, criminals and political thieves are forgiven, celebrated, and rehabilitated while a man demanding self-determination and justice remains behind bars and tossed around in courts with the pretence that somehow it is about law..

"Sowore, You Don't Know What Happened": Please 🙏 Do Not Join The Call For Unconditional Release Of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu- Joe Igbokwe Crying And Pleading With Sowore To Backdown From His Plan Protest

My friend Sowore did not know what happened in the SE from 2015 to 2025. He did not know the number people that were killed on Nnamdi Kanu’s order. Sowore did not know that my home in Nnewi was burnt down . Sowore did not know the number of Igbo slaughtered like goats in Igboland. Sowore did not know what happened in Lagos during protest. He did not know Nnamdi Kanu was on Radio telling them to look for PBAT and kill him, burn TVC, crush all his interests anywhere you see it, burn BRT buses, burn anything in sight. I can go on and on . 4 groups IPOB, ESN, UGM and BDF unleashed mayhem in the SE. Our girls became their wives, peoples wives were taken by force. They looted supermarkets, take petrol free at filling Stations, they extorted billions from our people or you are killed. Many schools were closed in Imo and Abia States. I advise Sowore to be careful. Sowore please ask Governor SOLUDO to give you the findings of the 25 man committee he set up to unravel activities of these killer groups in the Anambra State in 10yrs. They killed our people in hundreds and told the relatives to keep quiet otherwise they will return to decimate the entire family. It will choke you Sowore. Sowore has been a friend for many years back and he knows this. If he needs the information of what happened in the South he should ask me or ask Mr Peter Claver Oparah. They were proud products of UNILAG. Sowore, Sowore, Sowore. How many times did I call you? 3 times abi? Go and do due diligence of what happened in the SE in 10yrs before you dabble into the matter. To be forewarned is to be forearmed.

People may think Sowore is being genuine about supporting Nnamdi Kanu, but let’s be honest — he’s only trying to use the emotions of the Igbo people to push his own agenda. His support isn’t about justice or freedom; it’s about strategy and relevance. People like me don’t fall for his Kabukabu Talks.

It is not in the place of a journalist to make a public office holder "feel good" about questions bordering on public projects and accountability of the office occupied by the politician. This is not the first time the Minister of Works will be clashing with Arise News.

At a media briefing by the Minister sometime in 2024, Laila Johnson-Salami of Arise News asked the Minister about the EIA for the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project but a drama ensued as the Minister picked on her accent and said he was raised in the village and needs an interpreter to hear her. People laughed but the journalist insisted on knowing whether preliminary approval had been given for the project to commence. The Minister who appeared evasive never answered that question.

Again, it is not in the place of journalists to make politicians feel good about themselves while answering questions bothering on public projects and office accountability to the people.

In this recent interview with Arise, Rufai Oseni asked about the total cost and corresponding unit cost per kilometre for the construction of the same coastal road. ₦700 billion loan was secured for this project and maybe more in the future. Who will pay for this? Me and you, so a journalist asking to understand a breakdown number is not out of place. Cost per kilometre is a key benchmark during project evaluation and tendering.

If the Minister did not have the detail in that interview, he could've provided a logical answer while offering to provide details later.

As opposed to bickering, he could've said that the over 200 kilometres road cuts across bridges, swampy lands, embankments, etc and cost per kilometre will differ. Mr Oseni might've insisted on an example from any of the completed parts of the road and the Minister could've happily said details will be provided later as he didn't have it right there.

All these needless drama because a politician feels too big to be questioned and believes once he states his position, it should be accepted without questions.

Politicians do not respect the people and they should not expect respect from journalists who are the closest to holding them accountable after the legislature and judiciary have decided to join the chorus, "On your mandate we shall stand".

In the professorial spirit of the Minister, I declare myself a professor in practice who understands writing on Facebook, therefore I do not owe you explanation on "cost per word".

I am inside gutter and I expect someone to start hailing me, "Beck wey dey enter gutter. Kaikai rescue".
