SECURITY BOOST: Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu Foundation Donates Motorbikes, Cash to Flashpoint Communities in Owerri West

Owerri, Imo State — April 20, 2025

In a bold move to combat the rising tide of insecurity plaguing Owerri West Local Government Area, the Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu Foundation, under the leadership of Her Excellency, Chief (Mrs) Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, Ph.D, the immediate past First Lady of Ondo State, has kickstarted a grassroots security intervention initiative.

Acting through her Adviser on Community Security Matters, PrinceJoseph C.M. Nwosu-Okorie, the Foundation donated four security motorbikes and Four Hundred and Forty Thousand Naira (N440,000) to vigilante security outfits across two of the most volatile flashpoints in Owerri West LGA — Okolochi/Emeabiam and Umuguma/Avu/Oforola communities. The intervention took place on Friday, April 19, 2025, in the presence of community leaders and traditional rulers including HRM Eze (Dr.) G.N. Ugorji, Eze Ohamere IV of Umuguma Ancient Autonomous Community, and his Oforola counterpart.

This initiative follows a strategic decision made by Her Excellency on April 18, 2025, after a security review that identified three flashpoints in Owerri West LGA as most vulnerable. The third flashpoint — Ndegwu/Amakohia Ubi — has also been marked for upcoming support in the next phase of the intervention.

Her Excellency lamented the under-prioritization of community policing in the region, urging immediate action to reinforce local security structures. “Security is everyone’s business,” she stated. “Whether rich or poor, nobody is safe. If a rich person is kidnapped, they lose their wealth. If a poor person is kidnapped, they lose their organs. No one is spared.”

She called on key stakeholders, political actors, community leaders, and well-meaning citizens to partner in this noble mission, asserting that she is fully committed to seeing the initiative through.

“I’m still engaging and lobbying for more supporters to join in fortifying the security architecture of Owerri Federal Constituency and the greater Owerri Zone,” PrinceJoseph noted, adding that more batches of donations are underway.

The Foundation’s intervention is a clarion call for collective action to restore peace and confidence in the communities of Imo East Senatorial District.

Today I want to address a critical issue that’s been troubling me—our approach to education abroad and its impact on our mindset and society here in Nigeria and across Africa."

"Now, let me be clear, there’s nothing wrong with seeking education in the UK, US, or other Western countries. The problem lies in what happens afterward. Too often, our brothers and sisters who go abroad, knowing our struggles with colonialism and imperialism, fail to use their acquired knowledge to uplift our nation. Instead, they come back behaving like the colonial masters of old—looking down on those of us who stayed behind, treating us as second-class citizens.

Worse still, when they see us striving to succeed here, they display jealousy or disdain, rather than supporting or collaborating with us. Their education, instead of being a tool for growth, becomes a weapon for intimidation or manipulation

"It’s even more disheartening when they’re given political appointments or opportunities to lead. Despite their foreign degrees, there’s no meaningful change—only more greed, treachery, and oppression. Education becomes a status symbol rather than a means to create impact.

And it’s not just those educated abroad. Even locally educated individuals sometimes use their certificates as tools for personal aggrandizement, focusing on titles rather than true knowledge or service to others. This shows a troubling shift where education is valued for what it can do for one’s ego, not for its power to solve problems or build communities."

"At the end of the day, education—whether abroad or at home—should be about knowledge and impact. It should empower us to uplift our communities and address the challenges we face. Let’s rethink our priorities and ensure that education becomes a source of transformation, not a tool for division.

Citizens at UTC Abuja Market Call for Government Intervention, Demand Leadership Solutions.

In a powerful expression of frustration and disappointment, citizens at UTC Market in Area 10, Abuja, have made a clarion call for urgent intervention from the Federal Government. During a public discussion organized by South-View Television in collaboration with Parliament-Podcast, the majority of market-goers voiced their concerns about the high cost of living, particularly the surging prices of fuel, transportation, and food.

The citizens were clear in their demand: reduce fuel prices, regulate transportation costs, and food prices will follow suit. Many expressed that Nigeria’s current economic woes are not due to a lack of resources but are rooted in leadership challenges.

They believe that with effective leadership, prices can be brought under control, making essential goods and services more affordable. The mood in the market shifted from frustration to anger as the citizens reacted to a recent statement by the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which, according to the respondents, failed to address their concerns.

"How can the Vice President suggest that we protest while they enjoy comfort in their homes?" one trader exclaimed. Many interpreted the remarks as dismissive and a potential call for anarchy.

"Nigerians are reaching a breaking point," one citizen noted, warning that "if things don’t change soon, people will lose their fear of death and take to the streets, not just for protest, but for survival." This sentiment underscores the growing tension and the increasing impatience with the current economic situation.The citizens concluded with a strong appeal to the presidency:

"We are suffering, and we need solutions, not empty statements. Let the government show true leadership and ease the burden on Nigerians."This outcry is a reminder that urgent action is needed from the government to restore hope and stability, addressing the pressing economic concerns of the people.
