Dear Fresher,
Congratulations on your merit list Admission

Welcome to the world of endless possibilities. Right now, your heart is racing with excitement and maybe a little fear. That’s normal. Everyone you admire on campus once stood exactly where you’re standing.

My first advice? Slow down. Take a deep breath. Know that this is your season to build. Build friendships, build discipline, build dreams. Don’t rush to “belong”; take your time to find your rhythm.

Yours in wisdom,

HOW TO STAY CALM & FOCUSED DURING EXAM WEEK AT FUTO”

EXAM SEASON IS HERE!

You’ve been reading day and night, running from one hall to another, and it feels like your brain is already writing exams before you sit down.

This is the moment to breathe. A calm mind writes better than a tired one.

Here are quick hacks to stay balanced this exam week:

⚡️Sleep at least 4–6 hours before any paper. Sleep is not a waste of time.

💧Stay hydrated — water sharpens focus.

⏲️Plan your time — arrive early to exam halls.

📖Revise lightly on exam day, don’t cram new things.

🙏Pray or meditate to settle your mind before entering the hall.

Remember: One paper at a time. One victory at a time.

Drop your exam survival hacks in the comments — someone might need them today.

P.S. Reading PDFs or setting exam alarms? Your Samsung phone is your best buddy for quick notes and reminders on the go.

Respect All Courses (FUTO GP No Dey Laugh)

There was this guy, Ebuka. He gave all his energy to 4-unit Engineering courses. Passed them with A’s and B’s. But that one “small” 1-unit GST he ignored? He failed it. And it dragged his GPA down like anchor.

GP doesn’t care about “small” or “big.” It multiplies everything.

Lesson: Respect every course. Don’t allow a 1-unit carryover to disgrace your 4-unit success.

Question: Which “small” course once shocked you more than a big one?

FINAL REFLECTION : EVERY COURSE COUNTS

At the end of the semester, all those “small” and “big” courses stand on the same level, inside your result slip. GP doesn’t print in bold which was 4-unit and which was 1-unit. It just prints your reality.

Respect all. Read all. Balance all. Stay focused. Pass all.
That’s how you beat the system.

Lesson: Don’t let a 1-unit carryover spoil a semester of hard work.

Question: If you could advise a 100L student right now about handling big vs small courses, what would you tell them?

Thanks for joining out this journey

AVOID LAST-MINUTE PANIC.

Every campus has that guy. He’ll dodge classes all semester, dodge notes, dodge tutorials, then 24 hours to exam, he’s running around like Danfo bus conductor: “Abeg, who get note for ENG 309?”

That’s not exam prep, that’s panic. I once saw a guy try to “download” 12 weeks of Engineering Maths in one night. By exam morning, he was sleeping on his desk before question paper even arrived.

Lesson: Don’t gamble with last-minute cramming. Even 2 hours daily revision beats one night of panic.

Question: What’s the craziest last-minute thing you’ve ever done before an exam?

THE PSYCHOLOGY OF SMALL COURSES.

Small courses feel less urgent because they don’t carry weight in our minds. But the truth is, GP is a numbers game. A low grade in a “simple” course can wound more than a B in a big one.

It’s a mental trap. We think: “Even if I fail it, it’s just one unit.” But GP calculator doesn’t think like that.

Lesson: Change your mindset. No course is too small to matter.

Question: Do you calculate your GP before exams, or only after results drop?

FOCUS ON KEY TOPICS, NOT EVERYTHING

Here’s the mistake, trying to read cover-to-cover one week to exam. Who are you deceiving?

Lecturers usually drop hints. Some repeat areas. Some even give “likely questions” in class. Like one semester, Dr. OBI kept emphasizing on homomorphism. Guess what? Half of the exam came from there. Students who chased everything wasted time; the ones who focused smiled.

Lesson: Exam preparation is not about quantity, it’s about focus. Know where the hot spots are, and concentrate there.

Question: Do you hunt for “area of concentration” or do you still try to read the whole textbook?

WHY FAIL ONE WHEN YOU CAN PASS ALL?

It’s painful when results come and you see: A, A, B, C, … and then one ugly F staring at you.
One small F can mess up the joy of ten passes.

Truth is, many times we fail because we chose to neglect that course. Maybe we didn’t attend classes, maybe we skipped tutorials, maybe we pushed it aside.

Lesson: Passing all is possible when you respect all. Don’t give exam board reason to mark “except one.”

Question: Be honest, what’s the smallest mistake you ever made that cost you a course?

EAT & REST WELL

During exams, some students behave like iron men and women. They skip meals, stay awake three nights in a row, and then collapse on exam day.

I remember Ada, 200L, who nearly fainted at the queue at the ICT because she read all night with nothing but Coke and gala. Invigilator had to stop her exam and give her water. All that stress, and she didn’t even write well.

Lesson: Your brain is like Samsung phone, if you don’t charge it, it shuts down. Food and sleep are the charger. Don’t kill yourself in the name of exams.

Question: How many hours of sleep do you usually get during exam week?

GIVE EQUAL RESPECT, BECAUSE THEY DON’T ’t RESPECT YOU.

Courses don’t care about unit value. GP calculator doesn’t care. Your lecturer doesn’t care.

That’s why you must give every course the same respect.
Don’t say, “It’s just 1-unit.” That 1-unit can give you carryover if you disrespect it.

Lesson: Every course is equal when the result sheet comes out.

Question: Which course once humbled you because you underrated it?

BALANCE NIGHT CLASS & DAY READING.

Everybody knows FUTO night class is like crusade, every corner full of students, from SEET COMPLEX to PET AUDIT to CHEMICAL ENGINEERING DEPT. Some even go just to take pictures of “serious student life.”

But here’s the truth: not everyone’s brain works at midnight. For example, Uche reads well at 2am, but Chioma’s brain shuts down once it’s past 11pm. She tried forcing night class once, by morning, she couldn’t even remember what she read.

Lesson: The best way to prepare isn’t following crowd, it’s knowing your body clock. If you read better in the day, focus there. If night works for you, do it. The exam won’t ask whether you read at noon or 3am.

Question: Are you Team Night Class or Team Daytime ?

13/09/2025

HOW TO STAY FOCUSED ACROSS All COURSES.

Distraction is real. One minute you’re reading GST, next minute your brain says: “Leave this small course, abeg, go back to MTH.”

How to fight back :

Break your reading into chunks.

Use past questions to stay on track.

Set tiny goals: “I must finish this handout today.”

Avoid comparing courses, focus on one at a time.

Lesson: Focus is not about reading long hours, it’s about staying present with whichever course you pick.

Question: Do you easily get distracted when reading less “important” courses?
