SERAP Sues Akpabio Over ‘Unlawful’ Natasha’s Suspension.

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project has sued Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, over what it described as the “patently unlawful” suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The suit, filed at the Federal High Court, Abuja, seeks to overturn the six-month suspension, which SERAP argued violates the senator’s fundamental rights and deprives her constituents of representation.

A new era of competition is brewing in Nigeria's petroleum market. The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has released estimated pump prices for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, obtained from the Dangote Refinery. This move sets the stage for a price competition between NNPC and Dangote.

As Dangote Refinery begins operations, NNPC is preparing for a potential price war. The estimated prices are based on September 2024 pricing, but market analysts expect prices to fluctuate as the competition heats up.

The entrance of Dangote Refinery into the market is expected to increase the supply of petrol, potentially driving prices down. NNPC, however, remains the dominant player in the market, and it's unclear how the price competition will play out.

One thing is certain, though - Nigerian consumers are likely to benefit from the competition. With more players in the market, prices may decrease, and services may improve.

As the situation unfolds, we'll keep a close eye on the developments and provide updates on the price competition between NNPC and Dangote.

Nigerian banks begin to charge N100 for using ATM, N600 for withdrawing at malls, fuel stations, others.

Nigerian commercial banks have commenced charging N100 for transactions on their Automated Teller Machines (ATM) following an update to the guidelines issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

This development was announced by the Central Bank of Nigeria in a circular dated February 10, 2025 on the review of ATM transaction fees, scheduled for implementation from today, March 1, 2025.

Under the revised fee structure, withdrawals from one’s bank ATMs will remain free of charge.

However, customers using ATMs of other banks will be subjected to a charge of N100 per withdrawal of N20,000 or less at on-site ATMs, which are located within or directly affiliated with a bank branch.

Off-site ATMs, which are positioned outside bank premises such as shopping malls, fuel stations, and other public spaces, will attract an additional surcharge of up to N500 per transaction.

CBN later revealed that Nigerians withdrawing less than N20,000 from another bank’s ATM will still be charged a fee of N100 per transaction.

Federal College of Education (Special)Oyo : Engr. Aderemi Rauf Olaniyan Sets New Standards.

The Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo, has witnessed remarkable developments under the leadership of Engr. Aderemi Rauf Olaniyan, the current Chairman of the Governing Council. Since assuming office, the former Deputy Governor of Oyo State has introduced groundbreaking initiatives that have significantly benefited both staff and students, setting a new standard for leadership within the institution.

In a recent act of generosity, Engr. Olaniyan donated a sum of ₦1.5 million to the Student Affairs Unit to assist students struggling to pay their school fees. This gesture has brought relief to many students, reflecting his commitment to supporting education and student welfare.
Speaking with our correspondent, a staff member disclosed that the Chairman has even bigger plans for the institution. According to the source, Engr. Olaniyan intends to establish a loan scheme for both staff and students, with the guidelines for access and repayment to be structured by the college administration. The initiative aims to provide financial relief and support academic growth within the institution.
Additionally, plans are underway to set up a mini market within the college premises. The market will enable students and staff to use the loan facility to purchase essential goods, making it especially beneficial for the student community.

The Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo, is unique in its mission, catering to both disabled and non-disabled students. As the only special education college in Sub-Saharan Africa, it requires dedicated leadership and special attention from both the government and the public. Engr. Olaniyan’s efforts are a testament to his understanding of this responsibility.
Comr. Engr. Dolapo Awotunde, an alumnus of the institution, praised the chairman’s contributions, describing him as the best chairman the college has ever had. “The impact of His Excellency within just a few months is overwhelming. His passion for the growth of the college and the welfare of students is unmatched. I pray that God continues to strengthen him and guide his path,” Dolapo added.

The entire college community has lauded Engr. Olaniyan’s leadership, expressing optimism that his ongoing efforts will continue to uplift the institution and set a legacy of excellence for future leaders.
