*Osun 2026: Olowu of Kuta Urges Online Publishers to Uphold Fairness, Integrity in Political Coverage*

As Osun State gears up for the 2026 gubernatorial elections, the Olowu of Kuta, His Royal Majesty, Oba Hammed Adekunle Makama Oyelude, CON, has called on media practitioners, particularly online publishers, to ensure fair and balanced reporting in their coverage of political events.

The revered monarch made the charge on Thursday during an interactive session with members of the Osun Online Publishers Association at a A-day Digital Media Workshop held at Ben-Ber Hall, Ring Road, Osogbo, the state capital.

The event, which brought together seasoned journalists and emerging media professionals, focused on strengthening ethical standards and enhancing the role of digital media in democratic governance.

Oba Oyelude, who serves as the Patron of the Association, emphasized the critical role of the press as the watchdog of society. He urged online media outlets to provide equitable coverage to all political actors, irrespective of party affiliation, and to prioritize the interest of the people above political sentiment.

“In this critical period leading up to the 2026 elections, I want to appeal to you as media professionals to give all political parties and candidates a fair hearing,” the monarch stated.

“Your platforms must remain open to all voices APC, PDP, ADC, or any other. No political party loves the masses more than the media does. You, the press, hold the moral responsibility to ensure that truth and justice prevail.”

He continued, “As the eyes and ears of society, you must uphold the principles of fairness, objectivity, and public interest in your reportage. Let the love for Osun State guide your editorial decisions and content. The public looks up to you for credible information. Do not let them down.”

Commending the Osun Online Publishers Association for organizing the workshop, Oba Oyelude described the initiative as both timely and essential. According to him, ongoing professional development and ethical reorientation are indispensable tools for responsible journalism in the digital age.

“This refresher course is not just necessary it is vital. The media landscape is evolving rapidly, and you must stay ahead to ensure that misinformation and political propaganda do not overwhelm the truth,” he added.

The workshop is part of the Association’s broader mission to promote ethical journalism, build professional capacity, and foster a vibrant media landscape in Osun State.

*OOPA to train members on Economics of Press Freedom in the Digital Media Space*

In a bold step toward repositioning the practice of journalism for the digital age, the Osun Online Publishers Association (OOPA), has announced a one-day digital media workshop: “Beyond the Barrier: The Economics of Press Freedom in the Digital Media Space" for its members.

The workshop, which comes at a critical time when the sustainability of independent journalism faces increasing financial constraints, aims to equip digital publishers, citizen journalists, bloggers, and media entrepreneurs with the tools and knowledge required to thrive amid economic adversity.

In a statement issued by the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Comrade Abioye Tosin Lawrence, the workshop is described as “a timely intervention to engage the real challenges and reposition digital media professionals toward brand building, sustainability, and ethical responsibility in a rapidly evolving ecosystem.”

“The economy is not friendly, especially for those striving to maintain the tenets of ethical journalism in this fast-paced digital age,” Lawrence stated. “Under the current leadership of Mukhtar Ajelogbon, OOPA has made tangible strides in strengthening unity and professionalism among online publishers. However, we are now focusing on a broader paradigm shift, ensuring that digital media practitioners are not only heard but economically empowered to survive and thrive.”

The workshop which is billed for July, 26th 2025 in Osogbo will spotlight issues such as:

•The economic impact of press freedom in the digital space
•Sustainable monetization models for independent publishers
•Brand building in an attention-deficit era
•Digital ethics and responsibility
•Amplifying community voices through credible journalism

At the heart of the discussions will be the recognition that freedom of the press is meaningless without economic freedom, especially in a digital media environment that is both saturated and underfunded. Participants will explore how to bridge the gap between passion and profitability while staying committed to journalistic integrity.

Mukhtar Ajelogbon, the OOPA Chairman, reiterated the Association’s commitment to capacity building.

“We must evolve from simply reacting to digital trends to actively shaping them. This workshop is not just about survival; it’s about dominance through innovation, ethics, and strategic thinking,” he noted.

The digital media workshop is expected to attract practitioners from across Osun and beyond, including resource persons, media entrepreneurs, and policy stakeholders. It will serve not only as a training ground but also as a platform to foster collaboration, build new networks, and redefine the future of online journalism in Nigeria.

In a media landscape often stifled by economic hardship, political pressure, and dwindling trust, the OOPA’s initiative is a refreshing call to action, a call to look beyond the barriers, and build a media ecosystem that is as resilient as it is free.

Further details about the workshop will be released as the OOPA executive and the planning committee continue with preparations.
