Chapter Seven: The Mansion

The black SUV glided through towering iron gates, guarded by men with earpieces and stern faces. Julie sat stiffly in the back seat, her palms damp against her knees. The long driveway seemed endless, lined with trees trimmed like soldiers standing at attention.

At the end stood a mansion so vast it looked like something out of a dream—or a nightmare. Stone walls, high windows glowing with golden light, and balconies that overlooked the world like thrones.

“This is insane,” Julie whispered under her breath.

Beside her, Owen sat composed, his eyes fixed forward. “It’s safe,” he said simply.

Safe. Julie almost laughed. Nothing about this fortress screamed safe. It screamed power. Wealth. Control.

The doors opened, and she stepped out, her small figure swallowed by the scale of it all. Inside, chandeliers dripped crystals from the ceiling, and marble floors reflected her anxious face. Men in suits bowed their heads as Owen passed, but their eyes flicked curiously toward her.

Julie clutched her bag tighter. “I don’t belong here.”

Owen stopped mid-step and turned to her. His gaze was steady, unreadable. “You belong here more than anyone. You carry the future of this house.”

Her chest tightened. “I’m not a trophy. I’m not just the mother of your child, Owen. I’m me. I want to keep being me.”

For a moment, silence stretched between them. Then, to her shock, his expression softened. “I don’t want to erase you, Julie. I want to protect you.”

He led her upstairs, past double doors carved with roses and lions. Inside was a room larger than her entire apartment—velvet curtains, a balcony overlooking the gardens, a massive bed dressed in silk.

Julie’s eyes widened. “This is… too much.”

Owen stepped closer, his voice low, calm. “It’s yours. Everything here is yours.”

Julie turned to him, anger flashing in her eyes. “You think money and walls can fix this? That they can erase the fear? The note on my car, the men following me—it’s not just gone because you put me in a palace.”

Owen’s jaw tightened. He stepped even closer, his presence overwhelming. “The palace is not what protects you, Julie. I do.”

Her breath caught. His intensity burned through her walls, and for the first time, she saw a flicker of something terrifying in herself—she was beginning to believe him.

And that scared her even more than the enemies outside.

Chapter Six: The Threat

Julie tried to go about her day as normally as she could. She’d gone back to work part-time, determined not to let Owen’s shadow swallow her whole. Still, she felt it—the bodyguards across the street, the black SUV parked near her office.

Everywhere she turned, she felt eyes.
Not just Owen’s men… but others too.

That evening, she stopped by a little bakery for bread. The bell above the door jingled sweetly as she walked in. She tried to remind herself: Normal life. Just normal.

But when she returned to her car, her blood froze.

A note was stuck to her windshield. The letters were jagged, hurried, and chilling:

> Leave Owen Romano. Or we’ll take the child before it’s even born.

Julie’s knees buckled. Her hands trembled as she clutched the paper. A shadow moved at the corner of the street—someone watching her.

Before panic consumed her, a strong hand gripped her shoulder. She gasped and spun around. Owen.

He snatched the note from her hand, his eyes scanning it, jaw tightening like stone. His face darkened, colder than she’d ever seen.

“Get in the car,” he ordered.

Julie’s voice shook. “Owen… they know. They know about me. About the baby.”

His eyes burned with rage, but his tone was low, controlled. “They won’t touch you. Not while I’m breathing.”

She tried to protest, but the words caught in her throat. Owen’s driver opened the door, and before she knew it, she was inside his sleek black car, shielded from the world.

For a long moment, silence hung heavy. The city lights blurred past as they drove. Julie’s heart pounded—not just from fear, but from the intensity radiating from the man beside her.

Finally, she whispered, “This is exactly what I’m afraid of. This world of yours—it’s not just shadows, it’s blood and danger. And now it’s on me too.”

Owen turned to her, his voice low but raw. “You think I don’t know that? You think I haven’t tried to keep you out of it? But the moment fate tied you to me, there was no turning back.”

Tears pricked her eyes. “So I’m just supposed to live in fear forever?”

“No.” He leaned closer, his hand brushing hers—firm, protective. “You’re supposed to live knowing I would burn this whole country to the ground before I let anyone hurt you or our child.”

Julie’s breath caught. His words should have terrified her. Instead, they left her trembling with something else entirely—an emotion she wasn’t ready to name.

For the first time, she realized: Owen wasn’t just a storm to fear.
He was also the only shelter she had.

Chapter Five: A Glimpse of Shadows

The rain poured down hard as Julie walked home from the grocery store, her umbrella flipping inside out with every gust of wind. She hurried along the street, muttering under her breath.

She noticed them then—two dark figures across the street, pacing with her steps. Her stomach twisted. At first, she thought they were just strangers, but when one of them kept glancing in her direction, her pulse quickened.

She picked up her pace. So did they.

“Great,” she muttered, gripping her bag tighter.

Before she could react, a black car screeched to a halt beside her. The back door swung open.

“Get in,” Owen’s deep voice commanded from inside.

Julie froze. “What—?”

The men across the street had already started walking faster. One reached into his jacket.

“Julie, now!” Owen’s voice thundered.

Her instincts took over. She dove into the car, the door slamming shut behind her. The vehicle roared forward, leaving the men behind in the rain.

Julie’s chest heaved as she turned to him. “What was that? Who were they?”

Owen sat back, calm but deadly, his jaw tight. “Enemies. People who would use you to get to me.”

Her hands shook. “Enemies? I didn’t sign up for this, Owen! I just wanted a normal life.”

He leaned closer, his voice low, dangerous yet protective. “Normal ended the moment you carried my child. You’re part of my world now, whether you like it or not.”

Julie glared at him, tears brimming. “I don’t want your world. I don’t want guns, enemies, or shadows following me everywhere.”

For a moment, his eyes softened, but only for her. “And yet, it’s only in my world that you’ll be safe.”

The car went silent. The hum of the engine filled the space between them. Julie pressed her forehead to the window, watching the rain blur the city lights.

She hated it. She hated the danger, the control, the way he barged into her life. But deep inside, buried beneath the fear, was the tiniest spark of something else—trust. Because in that terrifying moment on the street… she knew he had saved her.

Owen’s voice broke the silence, softer this time. “You think I live in shadows because I want to? I live there because it’s the only place I know. But you… you might just be the one thing that pulls me out.”

Julie turned, startled. His eyes weren’t cold now. They were searching, almost pleading.

Her heart skipped. For the first time, she wondered if the monster everyone feared… was really just a man aching to be loved.

Chapter Four: The Appointment

Julie sat in the waiting room of the hospital, nervously rubbing her palms together. She hated coming here ever since the mistake. The stares, the whispers, the weight of the secret no one was supposed to know—it all made her skin crawl.

She glanced outside the glass doors and groaned. Two tall men in suits leaned against a black car, pretending to be casual. But everyone could see it—they were Owen’s men.

Her phone buzzed. A message.

> Stop fidgeting. I can see you. – O.R.

Julie’s eyes widened. She turned, scanning the crowd until she spotted him—Owen, seated at the far end of the waiting room. Dressed down in a simple dark coat, but still radiating an aura that made people avoid sitting near him.

She shot him a glare across the room. He didn’t look away. If anything, his gaze softened for the briefest second, before his cold mask returned.

“Miss Carter?” the nurse called.

Julie stood quickly, clutching her bag. As she walked past Owen, she hissed under her breath, “You didn’t have to come.”

He leaned slightly, his voice low, velvety but firm. “I don’t let strangers near what’s mine.”

Julie’s chest tightened. “I’m not yours.”

His eyes flickered to her stomach. “We’ll see.”

---

Inside the doctor’s office, Julie sat nervously while the doctor prepared her ultrasound. But the moment the screen lit up, everything else melted away. There it was—tiny, fragile, flickering with life.

Her throat tightened. “That’s… that’s my baby?”

“Yes,” the doctor smiled warmly. “The heartbeat is strong.”

Julie blinked back tears. For the first time since this nightmare began, she felt something other than fear. She felt love.

But when she glanced to the side, her breath caught. Owen was standing at the corner of the room, his usually unreadable face frozen in shock. His fists unclenched slowly as he stared at the screen, his chest rising heavily.

The doctor chuckled lightly. “First time seeing your child, Mr. Romano?”

Owen didn’t respond. He stepped forward, his eyes locked on that little flicker of life. Something broke in him—a crack in the walls he had built all his life.

Julie whispered, “You don’t have to be here…”

But his voice came low, raw, unguarded. “I’ve been waiting my whole life to be here.”

The words silenced her. For a brief moment, she didn’t see the mafia king. She saw a man—lonely, broken, aching for something real.

And in that moment, against her will, Julie’s heart softened.

Chapter Three: The Shadow at Her Door

Julie woke up to the sound of knocking. It was early morning, the sun barely peeking through her curtains. She rubbed her tired eyes, thinking it was just the landlord or a neighbor.

When she opened the door, her breath caught.

There he was. Owen Romano. Dressed in black again, his presence filling the narrow hallway like a storm cloud. Two men in suits stood behind him, silent as statues.

Julie tightened her robe. “What are you doing here?”

He stepped inside without waiting for permission. “Your locks are weak. Anyone could get in.”

She frowned. “You can’t just—”

He glanced around her small apartment, his sharp eyes scanning every detail—the cracked wallpaper, the secondhand couch, the half-dead plant by the window. He turned back to her. “You live like this?”

Her cheeks burned. “It’s called normal. Not everyone owns half the city.”

One corner of his mouth lifted, but it wasn’t quite a smile. More like amusement. “You’re stubborn.”

Julie crossed her arms. “And you’re trespassing.”

He ignored that. “From today, you’ll have security outside your building. No one comes near you without my approval.”

Her eyes widened. “Excuse me? This is my life. You can’t just show up and start making decisions for me.”

Owen took a slow step closer, his voice calm but firm. “You’re carrying my child. That makes you my responsibility. And I don’t take responsibility lightly.”

Julie’s heart raced. His closeness was overwhelming—the scent of his cologne, the weight of his gaze. She hated that it made her chest flutter.

“I don’t need a mafia boss to babysit me,” she shot back, even though her voice trembled slightly.

For the first time, Owen’s expression softened. He leaned closer, his voice low, almost gentle. “I’m not here to babysit you, Julie. I’m here to protect what’s mine. And whether you like it or not… that includes you.”

Silence hung between them. She could hear her own heartbeat.

Finally, Julie whispered, “This is crazy. I didn’t choose this life.”

He held her gaze, eyes dark and unreadable. “Neither did I. But fate chose us, Julie. And fate doesn’t make mistakes.”

Outside, one of his men cleared his throat. Owen straightened, his mask of control snapping back in place.

“You’ll get used to them,” he said, heading toward the door. “From now on, you’re never alone.”

And just like that, he was gone—leaving Julie staring after him, torn between fear… and a dangerous curiosity she couldn’t deny.

Chapter Two: The Encounter

Julie sat in the hospital’s waiting room, her fingers twisting the edge of her sweater. Her mind raced with fear. How could this be happening? How do I explain this?

The door suddenly opened, and silence fell across the room.

He walked in.

Tall, broad-shouldered, dressed in an immaculate black suit that clung to him with authority. His presence alone seemed to pull the oxygen out of the air. A pair of sharp, grey eyes swept across the room, cold and piercing, until they landed on her.

“Miss Carter?” his voice was deep, commanding.

Julie’s stomach tightened. She nodded slowly, unable to speak.

Owen Romano—the richest man in the country, the shadow every politician feared—was standing in front of her.

The doctor cleared his throat nervously. “Mr. Romano, Miss Carter… I thought it best you meet. This is a delicate situation.”

Owen didn’t sit. He stood towering above her, his gaze fixed. “So,” he said, voice like steel, “you are the woman carrying my child.”

Julie swallowed hard. “I… I didn’t ask for this. It was a mistake. I came here for a test, not—” her voice cracked. “Not this.”

For a moment, Owen studied her face. She wasn’t what he expected. No jewels, no arrogance, no desperation. Just… innocence. Pure and unguarded. It unsettled him more than he cared to admit.

“You think I wanted this?” he said, his tone sharp. “You think I let the world tamper with my bloodline by chance?”

Tears welled in Julie’s eyes, but she held her ground. “I don’t care who you are. I didn’t choose this either. But there’s a life inside me now, and I won’t let anyone treat it like a mistake.”

Her words hit him like a bullet. No one had ever spoken to him like that—not without fear.

The doctor interrupted softly, “We can discuss options. Legal arrangements. Custody—”

“Silence,” Owen snapped, his eyes never leaving Julie’s.

For the first time, Julie saw something flicker in those cold eyes. Not just anger. Not just power. Something deeper. A man who was used to controlling everything… suddenly facing the one thing he couldn’t control: fate.

He leaned closer, his voice low, dangerous. “You’re carrying my child, Miss Carter. Which means from this moment on, your life is no longer just yours. It’s mine too.”

Julie’s heart pounded in her chest. She should have been terrified. But beneath the fear… was something else. A strange pull.

The mafia king and the innocent woman—two worlds colliding in a hospital room, bound by an accident that felt too much like destiny.

Let's start chapter one of Julie and Mr Owen's love story!
It's a scene with a drama, emotion and suspension in romance novel.
I personally draft this story to fits your attention.

Chapter One: The Appointment

Julie tightened her scarf as she walked through the hospital doors. The sterile scent of antiseptic filled her nose, and the sound of hurried footsteps and soft chatter echoed around her. She hated hospitals—they reminded her of fragility, of things that could go wrong in life.

“Miss Julie Carter?” a nurse called.

She stood, clutching her purse nervously. “Yes, that’s me.”

The nurse smiled kindly. “Please follow me. It’s just a routine test, you’ll be fine.”

Julie nodded, though her heart raced. She had been having strange pains for weeks, and her doctor suggested a vaginal screening to rule out anything serious. She just wanted answers, peace of mind. She didn’t know fate was about to turn her life upside down.-

In another part of the city, Mr. Owen Romano—the wealthiest man in the country and the most feared mafia boss—sat in his penthouse. His assistant placed a thick folder on the table.

“Sir, the hospital has finalized the medical storage you requested. The samples are secure.”

Owen gave a curt nod. To the world, he was untouchable—cold, ruthless, powerful. But deep down, there was one wound no wealth could heal: he had no family of his own. In a rare moment of vulnerability, he had made arrangements to secure his legacy through science.

What neither Owen nor Julie knew was that destiny had other plans.

Julie lay on the hospital bed, staring at the ceiling. She squeezed her fists nervously as the doctor prepared. The procedure was supposed to be quick, harmless. She never imagined that behind the white curtains, a tragic mix-up would occur—one file misplaced, one sample mislabeled.

By the time Julie left the hospital that afternoon, she felt lighter, relieved that the test was over. She had no clue that inside her, life had just begun—the life of Mr. Owen’s heir.

Weeks later, the phone rang in Owen’s office.

“Sir,” his lawyer said in a tense voice, “we have a problem. A woman… has been impregnated with your sample. It was a mistake by the hospital.”

For the first time in years, Owen’s glass of whiskey froze in midair. His cold eyes narrowed. “A mistake?”

“Yes, sir. Her name is Julie Carter. She’s… carrying your child.”

Owen stood, his heart pounding with a mix of anger and shock. “Find her.”

Julie’s world shattered when the hospital called her in for an urgent meeting. She sat across from the doctor, trembling, as the truth was revealed.

“What are you saying?” she whispered. “That I’m… pregnant? But I—I didn’t—” Her voice broke.

The doctor lowered his head. “It was a mistake. The sample used wasn’t meant for you. It belonged to… Mr. Owen Romano.”

The name alone sent chills down Julie’s spine. Everyone knew him. The newspapers called him The King of Shadows.

And now… she carried his child.
