Malaysia has announced plans to bar children under 16 from social media. It says the measure is designed to protect young people from online harms. The government aims to implement the measure next year.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said on Sunday that children would be banned from creating accounts on social media platforms.

He said one option under consideration is forcing people to submit a passport or other form of identification as part of the age verification process.

Malaysia already requires big social media and messaging service providers to get a license as part of measures against online crime and other cyber problems.

Licensed platforms must implement age verification and content safety measures.

Malaysia's move follows a decision by Australia to deactivate social media accounts for children under 16 on December 10.

Investing.com-- Commodities futures and options trading on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange was halted on Friday due to a technical issue at a data center, CME Group Inc (NASDAQ:CME) said in a social media post.

“Due to a cooling issue at CyrusOne data centers, our markets are currently halted,” CME Group said in a statement posted on X. The company said it was working to fix the issue in the near-term.

A host of commodities and agricultural goods contracts appeared to be disrupted by the outage. Wall Street futures-- S&P 500 Futures, Nasdaq 100 Futures, and Dow Jones Futures-- showed their last trade at 21:44 ET (02:44 GMT).

SHANGHAI, Nov 27 (Reuters) - Alibaba (9988.HK), opens new tab released on Thursday its new Quark artificial intelligence glasses in China, heralding the Chinese tech company's efforts to break into the AI wearables market dominated by Meta (META.O), opens new tab.
Prices will start from 1,899 yuan ($268.25) for the headset that will be powered by Alibaba's Qwen AI model and app. Unlike other headsets made by the likes of Meta, the Quark glasses look like regular eyewear, with a black plastic frame.
Alibaba said the glasses would be deeply integrated with its apps, including Alipay and its shopping site Taobao, with wearers able to use them for tasks such as on-the-go translation and instant price recognition.
"Alibaba's strengths are shopping, payments and navigation, so its AI glasses function more like a life assistant," Li Chengdong, a Beijing-based electronics industry analyst said.The company is pushing into the consumer AI market after having historically lagged rivals. Earlier this month it launched a major upgrade to its AI chatbot.
