WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU ARE BLACKMAILED WITH YOUR NUDES.

A young lady once walked into my office shaking with fear.

Her ex-boyfriend had sent her a message that read:
"If you don't come back to me, I will post your n**e pictures online for everyone to see."

She was terrified.
Not because she had done anything wrong, but because she was worried about the shame, the judgment, and how it could affect her family and career.

Unfortunately, this situation is becoming more common today. Many people think threatening to release someone's private photos is just a relationship issue. **It is not. It is a crime.**

In Nigeria, threatening to publish someone’s n**e or intimate images to embarrass, intimidate, or extort them is known as **“Revenge Porn” or Cyberstalking**, and it is punishable under the **Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2015**.

If anyone ever threatens to post your n**e pictures, here is what you should do:

📌Do not panic or give in to their demands.
Most blackmailers rely on fear to control their victims.

📌Save all evidence.
Take screenshots of messages, chats, emails, and any threats. These will be very important.

📌Do not negotiate privately.
Responding emotionally or begging often encourages the blackmailer.

📌Report immediately to law enforcement or a lawyer.
Under Nigerian law, the offender can face serious criminal penalties including imprisonment and fines.

📌Seek legal protection quickly.
A lawyer can help you report the matter properly, request takedown of any posted content, and initiate legal action against the offender.

Let me say this clearly:
No one has the right to threaten, intimidate, or shame you with private images. The law is on your side.📌📌📌

Who Gets Custody of the Child After Divorce or Separation?

Many people think that once a marriage ends, the mother automatically gets custody of the children — but that’s not always true.

In law, custody is not a reward for who was the “better spouse.” The court is mainly concerned with one thing which is 🪭 'the best interest and welfare of the child' 📌📌

Before deciding who gets custody, the court looks at several factors such as:
⚡The age and health of the child (younger children are often left with the mother, unless there’s a strong reason otherwise).

⚡The financial capacity of each parent to care for the child. Like who is capable to take care of the Educational, medical and material needs of the child.

⚡The emotional bond between the child and each parent, they is the parent that the child is already close to.

⚡The moral character and conduct of each parent. Court will not grant custody to an abusive and violent parent or a promiscuous one.

⚡ The stability of the home environment being offered.

The court doesn’t look at who is richer or who was wrong in the marriage; it simply asks:
👉 Where will this child be happiest, safest, and most properly cared for?

So, if you’re facing a custody issue, remember — it’s not about winning or losing, it’s about the child’s wellbeing. ❤️

As a Litigant, you cannot sit or stand at the Bar.

There is a level of decorum that needs to be maintained in the court room in order to ensure smooth trial/hearing of all cases and as such there are some dos and don'ts that are observed in the court room, failure to observe may lead to punish/being cited for contempt.

👉🏾No. 1 on the list, your phones must be on silent. 🤫. If your phone rings out, it will be confiscated by the court.

👉🏾No. 2: As a Litigatant in court, you cannot sit or stand at the Bar to speak to your lawyer.

There is this Chairman in a Customary Court that is known for giving on the spot punishment for such anomaly. He will make you stand and face the wall probably till the end of your matter. 😆😆.

Best practice is to signal ☝🏾your lawyer, step outside the court room and discuss.
It is more advisable hat you visit your lawyer in Chambers days before your matter and discuss all issues except for unplanned developments.
